RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Despite the achievements of modern pharmacology and laser surgery, traditional glaucoma surgery remains the main method of reducing intraocular pressure (IOP). After successful glaucoma surgery, some of the patients are observed to have a decrease in visual functions not associated with progression of the glaucomatous process. This phenomenon is explained by the effect glaucoma surgery can have on eye refraction; detailed understanding of such changes would significantly speed up functional rehabilitation of these patients. PURPOSE: To study the time course of clinical manifestations of aberrations of the ocular optical system in the surgical treatment of glaucoma and to assess the effectiveness of the method used to minimize them. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 32 patients (32 eyes), aged from 52 to 73 years. The patients were divided into 2 groups. Patients of the first group (20 eyes) were treated with standard non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS). In the second group (12 eyes), patients underwent a modified NPDS according to an original method proposed by us. All patients were examined before and monitored after the surgery including precision visometry and corneal topography. RESULTS: A significant change in the studied parameters was observed in the first group in the early postoperative period (3rd day) - the average value of corneal astigmatism increased from 0.83±0.12 D to 2.86±0.07 D, while in the second group it increased from 0.86±0.20 D to 1.36±0.12 D. CONCLUSION: Non-penetrating deep sclerectomy according to the modified method proposed by us helps achieve higher functional results in the early postoperative period due to the reduction of induced changes in eye refraction.

RESUMO

In acute experiments on urethane-anesthetized rats, the respiratory effects ofmicroinjections of 10(-5), 10(-8) and 10(-10) M gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) into the solitary tract nucleus were investigated. It was found that microinjections of the neuropeptide induced an increase in tidal volume, amplitude of diaphragm and external intercostal muscles firing activity and in expiratory duration. The most obvious respiratory responses observed when 10(-8) M GRP was used, while 10(-10) M GRP appeared to be sub-threshold and didn't alter the breathing pattern and activity of inspiratory muscles. In some experiments, where the blood pressure and the heart rate was monitored alone with breathing pattern, these parameters did not change after GRP microinjections into the solitary tract nucleus. The obtained data together with particularities of the distribution of GRP receptors in the brainstem suggest the possibility of GRP involvement into the respiratory control mechanisms at the level of solitary tract nucleus.

RESUMO

The unabi (Zizyphus Mill) fruit extract as well as a composite preparation produced on its base in proportional mix with the extract of germinating wheat seed embryos were determined on antimutagenous activity in model experiments with laboratory animals. The specified gene-protected properties of the preparation were approved against the influence of work place environmental factors in chemical and textile industries.

RESUMO

We studied the dynamics of three-dimensional linear vortex in a heterogeneous excitable medium. Using the Aliev-Panfilov model we showed that even a small heterogeneity in excitation threshold can lead to drastic deformations of the vortex filament and an instability in its behavior.

RESUMO

The mannitol influence on mutagenesis of ionizing radiation and cyclophosphate has been studied in albino mongrel rats using the methods of genetic and biochemical analysis. N correlation is determined between antimutagenic action of this preparation and a decrease of malondialdehyde content in cells and free fractions of matrix lysosomes (beta-galactosidase; N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase) and firmly membrane-structurized microsomal (glucose-6-phosphatase) enzymes, whose level increases under the influence of mutagens. It is shown that, one of the way of antimutagenic actions of mannitol is connected with mutagenesis correction at the stage of origin of mutagenic products and their transport to chromosome DNA.

RESUMO

Invasive and non-invasive tools were used to examine the specific features of exercise hemodynamic and oxygen supply in time in 25 patients with heart failure who underwent permanent pacing during a long-term glycoside and vasodilator therapy. It is shown that treatment with glycosides and vasodilators should be used in patients having severe myocardial systolic dysfunction and undergoing pacing. In the absence of this abnormality, it is advisable to use peripheral vasodilators (corvaton or sydnopharm) and diuretics for a long time.

RESUMO

The results of endoscopic administration of hemostatic agents feracryl and Amifer in 147 cases are analysed. In 123 patients 5-10 ml of 1% feracryl were administered after endobronchial bioptic manipulations. Bleeding after collection of bioptic material from the bronchial mucosa was arrested by this method in 69 cases. Moderate bleeding in 42 cases was arrested by pressing to the wound surface a tampon saturated with a feracryl solution. Endoscopic occlusion of a bleeding bronchus by means of feracryl and Amifer was conducted in 16 patients with various forms of lung tuberculosis complicated by hemoptysis and pulmonary hemorrhage. In 9 cases with massive pulmonary hemorrhage 3-4 ml of 20% Amifer solution was administered by endobronchial route into the bleeding area. In 7 cases up to 10 ml of feracryl was introducedby ++endobronchial route. Temporary endoscopic hemostasis in patients with various forms of pulmonary tuberculosis made it possible to postpone an emergency operation for a period of up to 2 weeks in all cases. For the prevention of aspiration pneumonia the bronchi were repeatedly cleansed in 8 patients and therapeutic lavage of the bronchi was carried out in 7 patients.

RESUMO

Operative technique developed for collecting intestinal lymph from cattle and sheep are described. The method of creating an external anastomosis between intestinal lymph and the posterior caval vein (lymph-caval anastomosis), the postoperative care of animals, and the blood sampling technique are presented in detail. The optimal period of use of the anastomosis is 15 to 18 days. Its further use is of no reason, since the intestinal lymph changes in quality.

RESUMO

Transplanted human amnion cells have been used in experiments differing in the regularity of the sodium fluoride and alpha-tocopherol action to determine a considerable antimutagenic efficiency of the mutagenic process modifier, the efficiency being dependent on the treatment variability.

RESUMO

In cows fed with a fat-depressing food, the duodenal infusion of the lipotropic substances choline chloride and methionine activated the function of the infused mass which affected the transformation, biosynthesis and transport of lipid compounds into the intestine. Their effect upon the liver involved an inhibition of the bile secretion and an enhancement of the synthesis of triacylglycerols, cholesterol and phospholipids.

RESUMO

Feeding of the calves with the grass granules containing sodium acetate, enhanced the lymph flow and the phospholipids transport in intestinal lymph. The granulated food considerably reduced the portal system's blood flow and the intensity of the plasma production in the digestive organs. The phospholipids were shown to be constantly transported in the portal system of circulation due to their absorption and their synthesis in the gastro-intestinal tract's wall. The sodium acetate exerted a compensatory effect on the processes of digestion, absorption and transport of the nutrients.
