Combined All-Inside Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction With Semitendinosus Plus Anterolateral Ligament Reconstruction With Intact Gracilis Tibial Insertion and Transtibial Passage.

The indications for combining anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with anterolateral ligament reconstruction have increased considerably in recent years since several anatomical, clinical, and biomechanical studies have proven the importance of the anterolateral periphery in knee rotational stability. Much is still being discussed on how to combine these techniques in terms of which grafts and fixation options to use, as well as avoiding tunnel convergence. This study aims to describe anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with a triple-bundle semitendinosus tendon graft all-inside technique combined with an anterolateral ligament reconstruction maintaining the gracilis tendon insertion on the tibia, using independent anatomical tunnels. With this, we were able to reconstruct both using only hamstring autografts, reducing morbidity in other possible donor areas, in addition to allowing stable fixation of both grafts without tunnel convergence.

[The ether test in leprology]. / Prova do eter em hansenologia.

The author introduces a new diagnostic technique to test skin sensitivity in hanseniasis. Sulphuric ether boils at 35 degrees C, i.e., practically at skin temperature. One gram of vaporized ether applied to the skin substracts 90 calories and causes a clear ice-cold sensation. By touching the cooled area with his fingertip the observer provokes a warm sensation. In hyposthetic skin that sensation of cold is diminished and in anesthetic areas there is no feeling of cold at all with this ether technique. The test is made with a small cotton ball wetted in sulphuric ether, which is lightly passed over the patient's skin. The subjective cooling sensation depends on the patient's information but sometimes it is accompanied by an objective "goose skin" aspect, which is especially useful when testing children and other non-cooperative persons. The technique is quite simple and much more practical and precise than the classic warm/cold tubes. It permits the mapping of the whole skin surface for disesthesic areas in a few minutes. Precautions regarding the use of ether are given.

[Comparative study of the therapeutic activity of glutamic acid phthalimide and the therapeutic activity of triamcinolone in the treatment of Hansen's reaction of Virchowian Leprosy]. / Estudo comparativo entre a atividade terapêutica da imida ftálica do ácido glutâmico e a atividade terapêutica da triancinolona no tratamento da reação hansênica da hanseníase virchowiana.

A study was made in twenty inpatients of the "Hospital das Clínicas" of the "Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo" in order to compare the short-term activities of the Brazilian made imidphtalic glutamic acid and of the triancinolone in the therapy of the hansenic reaction of the Virchowian hanseniasis (in the erythema nodosum and in the erythema multiform syndromes as well). In this research it was observed that the therapeutic activities of both drugs present a perfect and undeniable equivalence and that their use have reduced the period of hospitalization to 8,3 days per each patient.
