RESUMO

Although rarely encountered in childhood, renal regenerated nodules present definite characteristics, individualizing this pseudorenal tumor. They appear on kidneys previously affected by infectious or degenerative process. On IVP they do not enlarge the kidney's size, but roll-up the calyces, without amputation. They are homogeneous on ultrasonic investigation, isofixing on radio-isotopic scan., normally vascularized on computerized angiography, if a doubt upon nephroblastoma imposes this investigation. The percutaneous puncture biopsy, aided by sonography, shows normal glomeruli and tubules two or three times wider than usual, without scars of the original disease. Some authors consider them as a peculiar pattern of hypertrophic compensation, starting from remaining healty renal parenchyma. Reasons of their i frequency, and functional value are still unknown.

RESUMO

One hundred and seventy seven burnt hands observed in children during the last ten years were reviewed at our hospital. One third were severely injured with burns deeper than 2nd degree. The infrequent greasy occlusive dressing was performed under general anesthesia in 87% of the burnt hands as the primary treatment. Out of 19 cases, five necessitated a secondary procedure one year or more later. Excision followed by full thickness skin grafts or flaps was used initially in 11%. Besides the common sequelae of burnt hands, we found some proper to children: clinodactyly, inhibition of longitudinal growth following epiphyseal plate destruction. The annual increase in the observed number of cases which doubled in ten years, shows the importance of prevention.

RESUMO

During a period of five years, the authors have treated 250 fractures of the upper end of the humerus. Fifty-one were treated by blind pinning. Six to eight Kirschner wires are passed up to the head of the humerus under X-ray control through a hole made on the posterior aspect of the lower end of the humerus just above the olecranon fossa. The functional results were satisfactory in 70% of cases. The indications for pinning were for severely displaced fractures, comminuted fractures, either impacted or not, or slipping of the upper humeral epiphysis. The results were less satisfactory in cases with an elevated greater tuberosity. The technique cannot be applied to fracture-dislocations.
