RESUMO

The structures of the title triethanolamine (tea) complexes of Cd(II) and Hg(II) saccharinates, bis(triethanolamine)-kappa3O,N,O';kappa4O,N,O',O"-cadmium(II) 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-onate 1,1-dioxide, [Cd(C6H15NO3)2](C7H4NO3S)2, (I), and bis(triethanolamine)-kappa3O,N,O';kappa4O,N,O',O"-mercury(II) 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-onate 1,1-dioxide, [Hg(C6H15NO3)2](C7H4NO3S)2, (II), or [M(tea)2](sac)2, where M is Cd(II) or Hg(II) and sac is the saccharinate anion, reveal seven-coordinate metal ions in both complexes. Both complex cations, [M(tea)2]2+, adopt a monocapped trigonal prism geometry in which the two tea ligands exhibit different coordination modes to achieve seven-coordination. One tea ligand acts as a tetradentate ligand using all its donor atoms, while the other behaves as a tridentate O,N,O'-donor ligand, with one of its ethanol groups remaining uncoordinated. The H atoms of the free and coordinated hydroxyl groups of the tea ligands are involved in hydrogen bonding with the amine N atom, and with the carbonyl and sulfonyl O atoms of neighbouring sac ions, forming an infinite three-dimensional network. A weak pi-pi interaction between the phenyl rings of the sac ions also occurs.

RESUMO

In the title complex, [Cu(C(7)H(4)NO(3)S)(2)(C(2)H(7)NO)(2)], the Cu(II) centre lies on an inversion centre and exhibits octahedral coordination, with the two ethanolamine (Hea) and two saccharinate [sac; anionic 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide] ligands in a trans configuration. The bidentate Hea ligands bridge axial and equatorial positions and the sac anions occupy equatorial sites around the distorted octahedral copper(II) centre [Cu--O = 2.3263 (16), Cu--N(Hea) = 1.9923 (16) and Cu--N(sac) = 2.1776 (16) A].

RESUMO

The aim of this research was to determine whether administration of antioxidant vitamins can reduce oxidant damage in erythrocytes induced by sulfur dioxide (SO2) inhalation. Meth- and sulfhemoglobin ratios, malonyldialdehyde (MDA) levels, osmotic fragility ratios and hematological parameters of a total of 28 rats were compared. SO2 was given at 10 ppm, 1 hour daily, for 45 days in a specially designed chamber. DL-alpha-Tocopherol acetate (40 mg/kg) and Na-ascorbate (200 mg/kg) treatments, initiated 3 days before SO2 exposures, were applied intraperitoneally 3 times a week for 45 days. Meth- and sulfhemoglobin ratios, MDA levels and osmotic fragility ratios were significantly higher in the SO2-treated group (p < 0.05). Significant decreases in MDA levels and osmotic fragility ratios were observed in the antioxidant-treated group (p < 0.05). SO2 inhalation resulted in higher MDA levels and osmotic fragility ratios, which can be reduced by vitamin E + C combination.

RESUMO

Coronary arterial stenoses impose a constraint on the delivery of cold cardioplegic solutions conventionally perfused via the aortic root, resulting in uneven myocardial cooling and protection. Therefore the hearts undergoing coronary bypass operations show impaired cooling of the post-occlusive myocardial regions, and temperature gradients among different myocardial fields are registered after cold cardioplegic perfusion. We applied retrograde coronary sinus perfusion of cold cardioplegic solution in canine hearts with occluded multiple left coronary arterial branches to overcome the above-mentioned drawbacks, and a uniform left ventricular cooling was demonstrated by this technique.
