RESUMO

Laser-assisted indocyanine green angiography allows surgeons to determine intraoperative flap perfusion and achieve the best outcomes in breast reconstruction. This study stratified outcomes based on a meta-analysis of complications including longitudinal trials comparing the clinical assessment of skin flaps during breast reconstruction. Nine studies met inclusion criteria and reported outcomes of interest (n = 2256). The risk of flap necrosis and the necessity of reoperation was statistically significantly higher in the control group.

RESUMO

In the course of treatment of cleft lip and palates, the quality of primary cheilo-rhinoplasty is essential to limit aesthetic and functional complications. This is why these primary reconstructions come under the domain of specialised centres with multidisciplinary teams. Unfortunately, residual imperfections often remain, especially in bilateral clefts, and secondary cheiloplasties represent for us a complex challenge. They aim at functional and aesthetic correction, and the choice of time is very random and depends largely on the psychological repercussions of the deformation in the child. It often occurs at the age of school entry and is combined with alveoloplasty. We then speak of alveolar transplantation with vestibulo and labio-plastie, the GPVP. Then we propose to combine all the resources of cosmetic surgery to improve the aesthetic and functional result of these children.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The caseload of jaw osteomyelitis seem to have decreased considerably over the last fifty years thanks to the progress of oral hygiene, the appearance and the use of antibiotics, and early screening. 'Limited osteitis' remains frequent in general practice (alveolitis after dental extraction), but osteomyelitis is much rarer as evidenced by the lack of current literature and the low number of reported patients in the published series. The aim of this study was to analyze retrospectively all the cases of maxillo-mandibular osteomyelitis treated in a large academic department of Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery over a period of 6 years and to compare the results to data from the literature. MATERIAL AND METHOD: All patients diagnosed with maxillo-mandibular osteomyelitis by one of the staff surgeons between January 2009 and December 2015 was included. An epidemiological record (sex, age, ethnic background, risk factors, clinical, origin of disease, imaging and biology, treatments and progression) were collected for each patient. Osteomyelitis cases were classified according to the Zurich Classification System. Results were compared to data from the literature. RESULTS: Forty patients were retained. Three presented acute osteomyelitis, 26 secondary chronic osteomyelitis and 11 a primary chronic osteomyelitis. Osteomyelitis affected predominantly the mandible (87%). Dental origin was found in 90% of cases. Nine patients (22.5%) recovered and 29 (90%) were clinically improved. Ten of the 11 patients with primary chronic osteomyelitis were improved. DISCUSSION: This cohort study is one of the largest series currently available and presents results comparable to those of the literature of the last 25 years.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lymphomatoid Papulosis (LP) is a chronic dermatosis progressing by flare-up. According to the WHO-EORTC classification, LP is a form of CD30+ primitive cutaneous lympho-proliferation. Mucosal lesions are rare, with 15 published cases. We report two new cases of oral localizations, without any cutaneous involvement. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Two women, 32 and 63 years old, presented with an isolated painful oral ulceration, of the maxillary tuberosity and of the inner side of the cheek respectively. The general state of health was preserved. Immunohistochimical analysis of the biopsies showed two Type A LPs. Lesions spontaneously resolved. DISCUSSION: Among the rare published cases, oral localization involved exclusively the tongue and the labial mucosa and almost all patients presented with previous cutaneous lesions. Isolated maxillary tuberosity or cheek involvements were not described yet.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is an increasingly studied technique. The authors of a meta-analysis published in 2012 had already confirmed the effectiveness of LLLT for radio-induced mucitis. Our purpose was to check its indication for similar pathologies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The articles were selected with the PubMed engine. The selected terms were "Low Level Laser Therapy", "oral surgery", "oral infection", "oral inflammation", "oral mucosal lesions", "oral mucosal disease", "stomatitis", "aphtous", "Herpes", "oral lichen planus", and "oral ulceration". The analysis was made on the following criteria: assessment criteria, methodological quality, and bias. We estimated the level of proof according to Sackett's modified score. RESULTS: Six articles were selected. Two focused on the effectiveness of LLLT for Herpes simplex virus 1 oral symptoms. Two focused on the effectiveness of LLLT for oral lichen planus. One focused on the effectiveness of LLLT for recurrent aphthous stomatitis. The last one focused on the usefulness of LLLT to control stomatitis pain in the hand-foot-and-mouth disease. CONCLUSION: All the selected studies were assessed with a Sackett's score of IV. No study presented the required quality standards to recommend the treatment of LLLT for the selected indications.
