RESUMO

Hypovascular pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are uncommon pancreatic tumors and commonly misdiagnosed as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma or chronic mass-forming pancreatitis. The liver is the organ most commonly affected by neuroendocrine tumor metastases but hepatic neuroendocrine tumor metastases are quite difficult to discriminate from other hepatic metastases and primary hepatic tumors. We describe a case of a 47-year-old man with incidentally detected multiple hepatic lesions on ultrasound. On further imaging technique including computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, the patient had an abnormal hypoenhancing lesion at the pancreatic tail and multiple hyperenhancing hepatic metastases that were diagnosed as hypovascular pancreatic well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor Grade 2 with multiple hypervascular hepatic metastases after liver biopsy and surgery. Neuroendocrine tumor is a rare etiology among hypoenhancing pancreatic tumors, and must be considered to discriminate from pancreatic adenocarcinomas in cases there are multiple hyperenhancing hepatic metastases on the arterial phase without typical washout on the portal venous phase.

RESUMO

In this study, seed oils of Thladiantha nudiflora and Thladiantha dubia were found to contain 55.5 and 44.4% mole of conjugated octadecatrienoic fatty acids, respectively. The presence of moieties of conjugated fatty acids was confirmed by a series from physical methods: UV, IR, 1H and 13C NMR. The triacylglycerols (TAGs) isolated of the seed oils were studied by RP-HPLC with diode array and mass spectrometric detections. It was shown that all 15 TAGs of Thladiantha dubia contain moieties of conjugated fatty acids - punicic, (9Z,11E,13Z)-octadeca-9,11,13-trienoic acid (35.6% mole) and 8.9% mole α-eleostearic, (9Z,11E,13E)-octadeca-9,11,13-trienoic acid. Meanwhile, 24 TAGs of Thladiantha nudiflora seed oil contain both acids in approximately equal proportions (27.4:28.2 % mole). The enrichment for polyunsaturated fatty acids of the hydrolysis product of the seed oils due to urea inclusion complex formation was discussed.

RESUMO

This study investigated the contamination levels and sources of As and Cd vicinity area from Nui Phao mine that is one of the largest tungsten (W) open pit mines in the world. Soil and plant samples were collected from the study area to identify the concentrations of As and Cd using aqua-regia or HNO3 digestion. According to the Vietnamese agricultural soil criteria, all soil samples were contaminated with As and Cd. The distribution of As concentration is related to the distance from the Nui Phao mine. The higher As concentrations were measured in the area close to the mine. However, the Cd distribution in the soil showed a different pattern from As. Enrichment factor and Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo) indicated that As in the soil is derived from the mining activities, while Cd could have other geogenic or anthropogenic sources. The ranges of As and Cd concentration in polished rice grains in the Nui Phao mine area exceeded the CODEX criteria (0.2 mg/kg), which indicated extreme contamination. The arsenic concentration between soil and plant samples was determined to be a positive correlation, while the Cd concentration showed a negative correlation, implying that As and Cd have different geochemical behavior based on their sources.

RESUMO

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings were prepared on 316L stainless steel (316LSS) substrates by electrochemical deposition in the solutions containing Ca(NO3)2·4H2O and NH4H2PO4 at different electrolyte concentrations. Along with the effect of precursor concentration, the influence of temperature and H2O2 content on the morphology, structure and composition of the coating was thoroughly discussed with the help of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. The in vitro tests in simulated body fluids (SBF) were carried out and then the morphological and structural changes were estimated by SEM and electrochemical techniques (open circuit potential, polarization curves, Nyquist and Bode spectra measurements). Being simple and cost-effective, this method is advantageous for producing HAp implant materials with good properties/characteristics, aiming towards in vivo biomedical applications.
