[The structure of the hyaline cartilage in the plastic substitution of articular surface defects (an electron microscopic study)]. / Stroenie gialinovogo khriashcha pri plasticheskom zameshchenii defektov sustavnoi poverkhnosti (élektronno-mikroskopicheskoe issledovanie).

Results of the transplantation of the hyaline (articular) cartilage with the subchondral layer were studied in 100 mature rabbits. The transplants were treated by different methods. It was found that the hyaline cartilage of the articular transplants does not take part in reparative processes. It undergoes either partial or complete resolution. The resolution processes in auto- or allotransplantation of fresh transplants proceed longer and are characterized by gradual death of cell elements and by a destruction of the collagen structures. The demineralized osteochondrous transplants preserved in a week solution of formalin with kanamycin are closer to them in their terms and character of transformation. They are the material which should be recommended as most perspective for arthroplasty.

[Characteristics of regional lymph nodes in breast cancer (quantitative histochemical study)]. / Kharakteristika regionarnykh limfaticheskikh uzlov pri rake molochnoi zhelezy (kolichestvennoe gistokhimicheskoe issledovanie).

The changes in axillary lymph nodes in mammary gland carcinoma of different histological types, metastasizing and nonmetastasizing, as well as after radiation therapy and in fibroadenomatosis were studied. The study was carried out on cryostate sections by histological and histochemical methods. Signs of activation of lymph nodes were clearly seen only in solid carcinoma, not always manifested in adenocarcinomas and scirrhous carcinomas, and undetectable in fibroadenomatosis. The quantitative determination of enzymes and nucleic acids showed differences in their activity between fibroadenomatosis and carcinomas. Proliferation processes dominated significantly over lymphocyte differentiation in carcinoma, increasing even more in metastasizing tumors. Pre-operative irradiation did not inhibit metabolism or proliferative activity of the cells.

[Morphometric analysis of the stromal cells in breast tumors]. / Morfometricheskii analiz kletok stromy opukholei molochnoi zhelezy.

Cell reaction of the stroma of breast tumors is an indicator of the activity of the immunocompetent system in oncological patients. In this work, the cellular response of the tumor stroma was assessed histologically and morphometrically, including calculation of the number of cells-lymphocytes and plasmocytes in the centre of tumor and distally. The intensity of infiltration was estimated quantitatively depending on the type of tumor, patient's age, the presence or absence of regional metastases; moreover the effect of preoperative telegamma-therapy on the tumor stroma was taken into account. The data obtained indicated that the reaction of immunocompetent stromal cells depend on the type of tumor: it is maximum in the stroma of solid tumors and is less pronounced in the stroma of adenocarcinoma and scirrh, and it is minimum in mastopathy. Preoperative irradiation produced no significant reduction in the number of stromal cells. Patient's age rendered no effect on the intensity of cell reactions. The presence of tumor metastases in regional lymph nodes contributed to a fall in the number of stromal cells of solid tumors.
