RESUMO

Understanding the structure and the dynamics of networks is of paramount importance for many scientific fields that rely on network science. Complex network theory provides a variety of features that help in the evaluation of network behavior. However, such analysis can be confusing and misleading as there are many intrinsic properties for each network metric. Alternatively, Information Theory methods have gained the spotlight because of their ability to create a quantitative and robust characterization of such networks. In this work, we use two Information Theory quantifiers, namely Network Entropy and Network Fisher Information Measure, to analyzing those networks. Our approach detects non-trivial characteristics of complex networks such as the transition present in the Watts-Strogatz model from k-ring to random graphs; the phase transition from a disconnected to an almost surely connected network when we increase the linking probability of Erdos-Rényi model; distinct phases of scale-free networks when considering a non-linear preferential attachment, fitness, and aging features alongside the configuration model with a pure power-law degree distribution. Finally, we analyze the numerical results for real networks, contrasting our findings with traditional complex network methods. In conclusion, we present an efficient method that ignites the debate on network characterization.

Here we propose an online method to explore the multiway nature of urban spaces data for outlier detection based on higher-order singular value tensor decomposition. Our proposal has two sequential steps: (i) the offline modeling step, where we model the outliers detection problem as a system; and (ii) the online modeling step, where the projection distance of each data vector is decomposed by a multidimensional method as new data arrives and an outlier statistical index is calculated. We used real data gathered and streamed by urban sensors from three cities in Finland, chosen during a continuous time interval: Helsinki, Tuusula, and Lohja. The results showed greater efficiency for the online method of detection of outliers when compared to the offline approach, in terms of accuracy between a range of 8.5% to 10% gain. We observed that online detection of outliers from real-time monitoring through the sliding window becomes a more adequate approach once it achieves better accuracy.

This paper proposes the use of the Statistical Process Control (SPC), more specifically, the Exponentially Weighted Moving Average method, for the monitoring of drivers using approaches based on the vehicle and the driver's behavior. Based on the SPC, we propose a method for the lane departure detection; a method for detecting sudden driver movements; and a method combined with computer vision to detect driver fatigue. All methods consider information from sensors scattered by the vehicle. The results showed the efficiency of the methods in the identification and detection of unwanted driver actions, such as sudden movements, lane departure, and driver fatigue. Lane departure detection obtained results of up to 76.92% (without constant speed) and 84.16% (speed maintained at ≈60). Furthermore, sudden movements detection obtained results of up to 91.66% (steering wheel) and 94.44% (brake). The driver fatigue has been detected in up to 94.46% situations.
