Laparoscopic Swenson Pull-through Procedure for Hirschsprung's Disease.

The introduction of a new procedure into the operating room is always a challenge that requires careful planning and teamwork. This article describes the pathophysiology of Hirschsprung's Disease, the perioperative nursing care required and the operative technique of the Laparoscopic Swenson Pull-Through Procedure.

Experiences with DSA in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism.

DSA pulmonary angiography was performed in 90 cases during the last two and half years and proved the presence of pulmonary emboli in 41 cases. The superiority of DSA pulmonary angiography is stressed comparing to other diagnostic methods (chest radiogram, laboratory and isotopic studies).

Arteria lusoria.

Although variation in number and arrangement of the great vessels of the aortic arch are not rare, there are, nevertheless only a few developmental disorders which are of clinical significance. In this latter group, the arteria lusoria is an interesting variation from the radiologists' point of view. The aberrant right subclavian artery (a.r.s.a.) arises on the left side of the midline as the 4th branch of the aortic arch. From the aorta it runs behind the esophagus to reach the right upper extremity. Crossing the mediastinum obliquely, it makes an indentation on the posterior wall of the esophagus and may cause difficulty in swallowing, or, in childhood when the tracheal wall is less rigid, respiratory symptoms can develop. The radial pulse may be weaker on the right arm.

Hypothenar Hammer syndrome.

The authors report on the hypothenar Hammer syndrome and on their observations. They present some of their cases and review the relevant literature. The diagnostic possibilities and therapy are discussed.

[Acute arterial injuries in simultaneous fractures of the extremities]. / Akute arterielle Verletzungen bei gleichzeitigen Extremitätenfrakturen.

The author reports on his experiences collected via arteriographic examinations of simultaneous fractures of the extremities and vascular lesions. Besides describing acute cases, he also underlines the importance of follow-up examinations.

Complications after large vein catheterization.

Serious complications of the introduction of pacemaker electrodes and of the catheterization of large veins performed in the course of 6 years are discussed. The majority of the 24 observed complications occurred on the left side. In the case of constant suction and thoracic haemorrhage, surgical exposure is unavoidable. In five cases the complications were due to temporary pacemaker electrodes. Four of the patients died of organ damage. Three typical case records are presented.
