RESUMO

This study represents a preliminary attempt to identify the psychosocial stressors of childbearing. A convenience sample of 221 women were used to identify these stressors. They represented three groups: first trimester women (n = 81), third trimester women (n = 80), and postpartum women (n = 60). Stressors were rated according to their frequency and intensity. The results focused both on the most intense stressors for each group as well as the changes in stressor intensity across the groups. The most intense stressors common to all groups were concerns regarding baby's welfare, labor and delivery, and issues related to their mate/spouse. One unexpected pattern was the continued stress due to thoughts of labor and delivery among postpartum women. The authors suggest a possible explanation for this phenomenon.

RESUMO

Studied 30 outpatient, psychotherapy clients and assessed their relative change of status at termination and 6-months posttreatment. The vast majority of clients indicated improvement during the treatment period. A majority maintained or continued to make gains during the posttherapy period. Socioeconomic status, age, total psychotherapy sessions, initial neuroticism, and initial extraversion were identified as predictors of positive change in status at termination and follow-up. Socioeconomic status, negative life events, marital change, total psychotherapy sessions, initial neuroticism, and age were identified as variables that discriminated between those individuals who did and did not improve.

RESUMO

Analyzed the Matching Familiar Figures (MFF) Test, which has been employed by researchers to determine conceptual tempo, for potential use as a tool for the clinician. The literature indicates that the test is valid in terms of range and structural clarity of information provided. The psychological factors inherent in impulsivity are discussed, along with some significant implications of the MFF that justify its further development. Currently, the primary deficits are a lack of norms as well as an alternate form. Several crucial advantages of this test are listed that favor its use in a clinical environment.
