RESUMO

Objectives: To analyse the influence of nurses' impact on the quality of documentation in an inpatient setting. Method: The descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted at two government hospitals in East Java, Indonesia, from December 2018 to February 2019 after approval from ethics review committee of Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia. The sample comprised nurses regardless of age and gender who had a minimum work experience of 6 months. Individual factors noted were gender, education, age, length of work, knowledge and motivation of the nurses, knowledge and motivation, while the quality of nursing care documentation was the variable dependent. Data was collected using a demographic nurses, knowledge, motivation questionnaire and nursing documentation observation sheet. RESULTS: Of the 150 nurses, 92(61.33%) were females and 58(38.67%) were males. The largest age group was that of early adults 92(61.33%), 46(30.67%) had 1-5 years of work experience, 115(76.67%) had diploma level of education, 81(54%) had less knowledge, and 86(57.33%) had strong motivation. The quality of documentation was in the good category in 74(49.33%) cases, and it had a significant relationship with education (p=0.011), knowledge (p=0.001) and motivation (p=0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Good quality of nursing documentation was found to be influenced by education, knowledge and motivation of the nurses.

RESUMO

Objectives: To analyse the relationship of demographic characteristics with coronavirus disease-2019 protocol compliance among ship passengers. Method: The descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted in May 2022 at the harbour in East Java, Indonesia, after approval from the ethics review committee of Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, and comprised individuals of either gender aged 18-65 years who had a passenger ship departure ticket and were able to communicate well in the Indonesian language. Data related to demographic characteristics and coronavirus disease-2019 standard protocol compliance. Data was analysed using SPSS 25. RESULTS: Of the 157 subjects, 71(45.2%) were males, 86(54.8%) were females, 68(43.3%) were aged 26-45 years, 79(50.2%) had studied up to the bachelor's level,106(66.2%) were employees, 89(56.7%) had earnings below the provincial standard, and 116(73.9%) were married. Health protocol compliance at the harbour had a significant correlation with gender, age, education, occupation and income (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The factors related to the compliance of the coronavirus disease-2019 protocol at the harbour were gender, age, education, occupation and income.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: One of the reasons why patient safety may be put at risk during healthcare interventions is a lack of staff adherence to patient safety guidelines. There could be a relationship between staff's adherence to patient safety guidelines and their perceived level of reward for their work and/or motivation. AIM: To examine the relationship between reward and adherence to patient safety guidelines, and between motivation and adherence to patient safety guidelines, among nurses working in emergency departments (EDs) in Indonesia. METHOD: This was a cross-sectional study of 101 nurses working in the EDs of four hospitals in Indonesia. Self-reported questionnaires were used to collect data on the level of reward participants felt they received for their work, the level of participants' motivation for their work, and participants' adherence to patient safety guidelines. Spearman's rank correlation testing was used to determine the relationships between variables. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant negative relationship between reward and adherence (P=0.019, r=-0.233), which meant that those who perceived their reward as low were more likely to adhere to patient safety guidelines than those who felt they were highly rewarded. There was a statistically significant positive relationship between motivation and adherence to patient safety guidelines (P=0.017, r=0.236), which meant that the higher the motivation, the higher participants' level of adherence to patient safety guidelines. CONCLUSION: Ensuring ED nurses are motivated for their work by offering rewards - such as a decent salary, a supportive workplace environment and career progression opportunities - is important to enhance their adherence to patient safety guidelines.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) helps reduce the amount of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that enters the body in order to avoid acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and prevents the occurrence of opportunistic infections and complications. This study aims to describe the correlation between self-esteem and motivation with adherence of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in ART. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 91 PLWHA who joined a non-government organization (NGO) support group, determined through a purposive sampling technique. The demography, and questionnaires about self-esteem, motivation and adherence to ART were employed to collect the raw data. The data were then analyzed using Spearman's rho test with the degree of significance at p < 0.05. RESULTS: The result showed that self-esteem (p = 0.000, r = 0.445) and motivation (p = 0.019, r = 0.246) had correlation with adherence of PLWHA with ART. CONCLUSION: PLWHA can increase self-esteem and motivation so that they can improve ART adherence. Further research is expected to use an instrument more objectively as a measurement tool for ART adherence in addition to a questionnaire so as to obtain more accurate and specific results.
