[Hemodynamic and cerebrospinal fluid dynamic changes in acute brain prolapse]. / Izmeneniia gemo- i likvorodinamiki pri ostrom prolabirovanii golovnogo mozga.

Experiments on 19 mongrel dogs were made to examine hemo- and liquorodynamic changes in acute brain prolapse. It was found that irritation of the hypothalamic region resulted in elevated intracranial, sagittal sinus, systemic arterial and venous pressures. The rate of cerebrospinal fluid production in acute brain prolapse increased four-fold as compared with the baseline values. It is concluded that in acute brain prolapse, increased cerebrospinal production rate and enhanced brain blood filling led to intracranial decompensation.

[The effect of anti-orthostatic action on the resorption of cerebrospinal fluid and various hemodynamic indicators in increased intracranial pressure]. / Vliianie antiortostaticheskogo vozdeistviia na rezorbtsiu likvora i nekotorye gemodinamicheskie pokazateli na fone pobysheniia vnutricherepnogo davleniia.

Intracranial, systemic, arterial, and venous pressure as well as pressure in the sagittal sinus increased when dogs were given an antiorthostatic position. Changes of hemodynamic parameters in response to additional increase of intracranial pressure were more marked in an antiorthostatic than in a horizontal position. Hemodynamic shifts in an antiorthostatic position were attended by diminished rate of cerebrospinal fluid resorption and its increased production.

[Participation of the lymphatic system in cerebrospinal fluid drainage in intracranial hypertension (experimental research)]. / Uchastie limfaticheskoi sistemy ottoka spinnomozgovoi zhidkosti pri vnutricherepnoi gipertenzii (éksperimental'noe issledovanie).

Two series of experiments were conducted on 17 mongrel dogs to investigate the participation of the lymphatic system of the head neck in drainage of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF): in increase of intracranial pressure (ICP) to 500 mm water column in the first series, and in ICP of 1,000 mm water column in the second series. 131I-labelled albumin was used as the indicator, which was added to the artificial CSF to increase the ICP. It was established that the lymphatic system of the head and neck takes part in CSF resorption which is most manifest in higher levels of intracranial hypertension.

[Results and prospects for the study of endemic goiter in Kazakhstan]. / Itogi i perspektivy izucheniia zobnoi éndemii v Kazakhstane.

The results of many-year-old research into endemic goiter epidemiology in Kazakhstan were summed up. Methods for the assessment of potential goiter risk were worked out. Multipurpose expedition investigations including mass screenings of the population and animals in all climatic and geographic zones of the republic, an analysis of the concentration of iodine and some other trace elements in the environment and the level of their consumption by man, resulted in compiling a variety of medicogeographic maps on endemic goiter epidemiology. Borders of goiter foci with various degree of endemia were defined; regions on the territory of Kazakhstan were singled out with relation to a degree of potential goiter risk, iodine deficiency, the concentration of cuprum, cobalt, manganese and fluorine. A zone of relative iodine deficiency where endemia was characterized by normal iodine consumption, was defined. Methods of differentiated antigoiter prevention with account of specific biogeochemical conditions of one or another focus, were worked out. Their introduction significantly raised the efficacy of antigoiter measures reducing goiter prevalence up to a sporadic level. The prospects of further advances in goiter control are associated with defining a biogeocemical situation in various endemic zones.
