[Morphological characteristics of the thyroid of adults from St-Petersburg (using a sample study data)]. / Morfologicheskaia kharakteristika shchitovidnoi zhelezy vzroslykh zhitelei Sankt-Peterburga (po dannym vyborochnogo issledovaniia).

138 thyroids from citizens of St-Petersburg born in this city who died suddenly were investigated macro-, microscopically and morphometrically. The average weight was 23.72 g, being maximal at the age of 20-29 years and minimal in persons over 70 years of age. A slight increase of the weight occurred between 40 and 49 years of age. Nodular lesions were found in 8.7%. Normoplastic type of structure was observed in 84.6%. Areas of asynchronous functioning were found in all the cases. It is possible to describe age-specific normal condition of the thyroid according to morphometric data: aging results in a decrease of the follicle diameter, an increase of thyrocyte height and nuclear diameter, a decrease of Brown index, growth and thickening of fibrillar structures. There were no convincing data in favour of endemia.

[Peroxide-dependent oxidation of substrates of polysynthetic flavocytochrome 2B4]. / Peroksid-zavisimoe okislenie substratov polusinteticheskim flavotsitokhromom 2B4.

Semisynthetic flavocytochromes, obtained by covalent binding of riboflavins with cytochrome P450 2B4, were able to catalyse H2O2-supported aniline p-hydroxylation, amidopyrine N-demethylation and p-nitroanisole O-dealkylation. Rates of these reactions were considerably higher than the rates of corresponding NAD(P)H-dependent reactions and comparable with H2O2-dependent reactions, catalysed by cytochrome P450. Kinetic parameters (Km and kcat) of hydrogen peroxide-supported oxidation of aniline, amidopyrine and p-nitroanisole in the presence of flavocytochrome 2B4 were determined. Cyanide and SKF-525 A inhibited H2O2-dependent reactions of flavocytochrome 2B4. The intensity of luminol chemiluminescence in the presence of hydrogen peroxide was studied. Chemiluminescent response was shown to be influenced by cyanide ions and SKF 525 A. The difference in chemiluminescence intensity of cytochrome P450 2B4 and semisynthetic flavocytochrome 2B4 was found.

[Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells]. / Anaplasticheskii rak shchitovidnoi zhelezy s osteoklastopodovnymi giantskimi kletkami.

Rapidly growing thyroid tumour in a female of 70 is reported. Histologically, the structures of three types were distinguished: follicular adenoma, follicular-solid form of the follicular adenoma and poorly differentiated tumour with presence of osteoclast-like cells. The latter were shown to contain an immunoreactive thyroglobulin. The origin of this giant cells in the thyroid tumour is discussed.
