RESUMO

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the number of house dust mites/g dust and different physical and environmental variables. A total of 1,040 house dust samples were collected from houses in Bitlis and Mus Provinces, Turkey, between May 2010 and February 2012. Overall, 751 (72.2%) of dust samples were mite positive. The number of mites/g dust varied between 20 and 1,840 in mite-positive houses. A significant correlation was detected between mean number of mites and altitude of houses, frequency of monthly vacuum cleaning, number of individuals in the household, and relative humidity. No association was found between the number of mites and temperature, type of heating, existence of allergic diseases, age and structure of houses. A maximum number of mites were detected in summer and a minimum number was detected in autumn.

RESUMO

We present a case of transient ischemic attack (TIA) as an extremely rare presentation of cerebral vein thrombosis. A 41-year-old man presented with a headache and episodes of hypoesthesia on his left side lasting approximately 30 minutes. Several vascular risk factors were remarkable in his medical history. The neurologic examination was normal. TIA of arterial origin was excluded by detailed investigations. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed acute thrombosis of the right superficial middle cerebral vein and the vein of Trolard. TIA-like episodes stopped with anticoagulation. Head trauma a few days earlier was the most likely mechanism of venous thrombosis. We suggest that the patients with TIA and headache should be carefully investigated in terms of cerebral venous thrombosis.

RESUMO

We undertook a systematic review of the literature on the basis of published studies on the benefit and costs of Electronic Patient Records (EPRs) to clarify the issue of whether and to what extent the use of an EPR is worthwhile. We carried out a systematic electronic search for articles published between 1966 and early 2004 using MEDLINE, following up cross-references from the articles found. We searched first for suitable medical subject headings (MeSH) for electronic patient record, benefit and costs. We obtained 7860 citations with the MeSH keyword ''Medical Record System, Computerized". After combination with appropriate keywords this number was reduced to 588, after a review by two reviewers independently based on abstracts down to 95, and after a further review based on full-text articles to 19 covering 20 studies. The publications evaluated thus document the economic benefits of EPR in a number of areas, but they do not make a statement of the cost effectiveness of EPR in general.

RESUMO

In this study a total of 175 coronal CT scans of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses have been investigated. The uncinate bulla was detected in 21 (11 male and 10 female) cases of 175 patients. Out of 21, 17 were bilateral while 4 were unilateral. The incidence of the uncinate bulla was found as 12%.

RESUMO

In this study a total of 175 coronal CT scans of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses have been investigated. A secondary middle concha was detected bilaterally in 12 (6.8%) out of 175 patients. In all cases, the ethmoidal infundibulum was placed anteroinferior to the lateral origin of the secondary middle concha. This structure did not obstruct the osteo-meatal complex in any of the 12 cases.
