RESUMO

Fluorescence angiography was used to study local microcirculation in 20 patients (9 females and 11 males) aged 18 to 48 years who had primary pterygium. All pterygiums were divided into unprogressive (10 patients, 10 eyes) and progressive (10 patients, 10 eyes). The revealed pattern of the microangioarchitectonics of pterygium suggests that there is an independent isolated microvascular system that comprises a system of posterior conjunctival vessels, relatively large arterial trunks, and a developed newly formed vasculature. Unprogressive pterygium is characterized by a slightly developed neovasculature in the tissue of pterygium, in its head in particular, while the progressive form is marked by a rich neovasculature with pronounced extravasal fluorescence.

RESUMO

Experimental uveitis features distinct hyperlipoperoxidation in damaged eye tissues, blood serum and the liver. The activity of antioxidant defense (AOD) enzymes decreases in tissues and blood of experimental animals whereas catalase compensatorily activates in hepatic tissue. Experimental therapy of uveitis with gentamycin and bacteriophage results in reducing hyperlipoperoxidation, increased activity of AOD enzymes but no complete normalization is observed. This manifested in preservation of inflammations to a certain degree.

RESUMO

The efficiency of azelastin (eye drops) in allergic conjunctivitis was evaluated. Ophthalmological, specific allergological, bacteriological, and cytological studies were carried out in 3 groups of patients. Group 1 was treated with claritin (orally), group 2 with azelastin (eye drops), and group 3 with both. The treatment was effective in all 3 groups. Regression of the clinical symptoms started earlier in groups 2 and 3 and was observed throughout the entire period of observation.

RESUMO

Morphometry of the bulbar conjunctiva vessels in 50 patients with gout was carried out by television capillaroscopy with videorecording. The findings indicate that microcirculatory disorders start with dilatation of the venules, after which arterioles and capillaries are involved. This results in alteration of the arteriovenular coefficient and of the bloodflow velocity in the capillaries. Hence, the metabolic form of gout may be regarded as the initial stage of disease.

RESUMO

Disorders of blood rheology resultant from hyperglycemia play the key role in the development of diabetic involvement of the eye. Electrical stability of red cell membranes, blood viscosity, and electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes were studied in 72 patients with various forms of diabetes mellitus. Correlations of these parameters with the severity of retinal involvement and the form of the underlying disease were detected. Blood rheology characteristics were notably shifted in the group of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy, in comparison with those in controls. Disorders of the erythrocyte membrane were found in the cohort of patients examined.

RESUMO

A total of 370 patients suffering from pollen allergies were examined at the allergologic department of the Moscow Helmholtz Research Institute for Ophthalmic Diseases and 140 ones at the ophthalmic department of the Tashkent Medical Institute. The causes of pollenosis involvement of the eyes in two geographical zones are compared. Ocular pollinosis are quite prevalent in both regions; many patients develop polyvalent sensitization to 7-10 (64 percent of patients) and more (62.4 percent) allergens. A high sensitization to plant pollen (10(-2) is characteristic of patients in Uzbekistan, this necessitating a more intricate scheme of drug threshold sensitivity titration. Eye involvement here is characterized by a long exacerbation period (up to 10 months) and a more grave clinical course.
