[Tinea pedis in young sailors]. / Tinea pedis bei jungen Seeleuten.

Results of a 3 year long-term study concerning tinea pedis in 240 18 year-old males are reported. Clinical monitoring revealed tinea pedis in 25% of the rural population (dermatologically manifest in 7%) and 66.6% of the examined seamen (manifest in 45%). The presence of Trichophyton interdigitale outweighted T. rubrum by 3-4:1. During the sailors' 1st year the relationship of the foregoing is 1:1-1.35; in the 2nd and 3rd years frequencies of 1:2.3, or rather 1:3.5, are observed. Epidemio-genetic factors of dermatophyte-host-environment are discussed for seafaring and non-seafaring conditions. The relationship between atopic dermatitis and athlete's foot is also considered.

[Occupational dermatomycoses of zoophilic origin in Bulgaria]. / Berufliche Dermatomykosen zoophilen Ursprungs in Bulgarien.

The relative proportion of zoophilic dermatomycoses is increased in comparison with Tinea capitis et pedum. The most frequent zoophilic species now is not only T. mentagrophytes, but T. verrucosum as well. Occupational mycoses caused by T. mentagrophytes and T. quinckeanum in vivaria put forward new problems for experimental medicine. The author states his arguments in favour of T. quinckeanum as a separate, specialized species with reduced morphology, forming scutula. T. verrucosum is phylogenetically the most highly differentiated monoreceptive zoophilic on cattle. With its physiological, parasitological and epidemiological characteristics it is primarily the object of veterinary medicine and also of human medicine. The measures for fighting those mycotic infections are described in detail. Because of cattle-farm expansion the combat of cattle trichophytosis presents in itself a tough problem. The number of the infected is thus also increased. Immunisation with the LFT-130 vaccine and therapy with griseofulvin products containing medicinal feed, according to Kielstein, is recommended.

[Mycetomas originated from South-East Bulgaria (author's transl)]. / Les mycétomes du sud-est de la Bulgarie.

According to investigations by the author, Bulgaria occupies a major position by the number of mycomas in European countries with temperate climate and small area. From 18 cases of mycomas, 10 cases, whom 7 were maduromycetomas or eumycetomas, originated from South-East Bulgaria, near Black Sea and Asia Minor, with warm and dry climate. This confirms that the climate has a definite influence on the disease. 6 maduromycetomas with black granules were caused by Madurella mycetomi and the only white granules mycetoma was caused by Monosporium apiospermum. Actinomycetomas were caused by Nocardia species and Actinomadura madurae. Despite the favorable effect of antibacterial compound (with special reference to Nibiol/Nitroxoline), in vitro, the actinomycetomas are more resistant to the therapy and they show a more rapid evolution. It is necessary to make a quick and early diagnosis to avoid an invasion of the underlying bones and the necessity of an amputation.
