RESUMO

The reaction of gem-dithiol compounds R 2C(SH) 2 (R = Bn (benzyl), (i) Pr; R 2 = -(CH 2) 4-) with dinuclear rhodium or iridium complexes containing basic ligands such as [M(mu-OH)(cod)] 2 and [M(mu-OMe)(cod)] 2, or the mononuclear [M(acac)(cod)] (M = Rh, Ir, cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) in the presence of a external base, afforded the dinuclear complexes [M 2(mu-S 2CR 2)(cod) 2] ( 1- 4). The monodeprotonation of 1,1-dimercaptocyclopentane gave the mononuclear complex [Rh(HS 2Cptn)(cod)] ( 5) that is a precursor for the dinuclear compound [Rh 2(mu-S 2Cptn)(cod) 2] ( 6). Carbonylation of the diolefin compounds gave the complexes [Rh 2(mu-S 2CR 2)(CO) 4] ( 7- 9), which reacted with P-donor ligands to stereoselectively produce the trans isomer of the disubstituted complexes [Rh 2(mu-S 2CR 2)(CO) 2(PR' 3) 2] (R' = Ph, Cy (cyclohexyl)) ( 10- 13) and [Rh 2(mu-S 2CBn 2)(CO) 2{P(OR') 3} 2] (R' = Me, Ph) ( 14- 15). The substitution process in [Rh 2(mu-S 2CBn 2)(CO) 4] ( 7) by P(OMe) 3 has been studied by spectroscopic means and the full series of substituted complexes [Rh 2(mu-S 2CBn 2)(CO) 4- n {P(OR) 3} n ] ( n = 1, 4) has been identified in solution. The cis complex [Rh 2(mu-S 2CBn 2)(CO) 2(mu-dppb)] ( 16) was obtained by reaction of 7 with the diphosphine dppb (1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane). The molecular structures of the diolefinic dinuclear complexes [Rh 2(mu-S 2CR 2)(cod) 2] (R = Bn ( 1), (i) Pr ( 2); R 2 = -(CH 2) 4- ( 6)) and that of the cis complex 16 have been studied by X-ray diffraction.

RESUMO

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C16H32O2, the molecules are arranged into dimers through O-H...O hydrogen bonds. These dimers are packed in bilayers with terminal methyl groups at both external faces, and these layers are parallel to the crystallographic (100) plane. All C-C bonds of the alkyl chain show an antiperiplanar (trans) conformation, with slight deviations from the ideal value in the C-C bonds close to the intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The similarity between the carboxyl C-O bond distances is consistent with the existence of cis-trans tautomerism.

RESUMO

The rhodium and iridium Lewis-acid cations [(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))M{(R)-Prophos}(H(2)O)](2+) ((R)-Prophos = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane) efficiently catalyze the enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrones to methacrolein. Reactions occur with perfect endo selectivity and with enantiomeric excesses up to 96%. Intermediates [(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))M{(R)-Prophos}(methacrolein)](SbF(6))(2) (M = Rh (3), Ir (4)) have been spectroscopically and crystallographically characterized. The nitrone complexes [(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))M{(R)-Prophos}(nitrone)](SbF(6))(2) (M = Rh, nitrone = 1-pyrrolidine N-oxide (5), 2,3,4,5,-tetrahydropyridine N-oxide (6), 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline N-oxide (7); M = Ir, nitrone = 1-pyrrolidine N-oxide (8)) have been isolated and characterized including the X-ray crystal structure of compounds 6 and 8. The equilibrium between methacrolein and nitrone complexes is also studied. [Ir]-adduct complexes are detected by (31)P NMR spectroscopy. A catalytic cycle involving [M]-methacrolein, [M]-nitrone, as well as [M]-adduct species is proposed, the first complex being the true catalyst. The absolute configuration of the adduct 4-methyl-2-N,3-diphenyl-isoxazolidine-4-carbaldehyde (9) was determined through its (S)-(-)-alpha-methylbenzylamine derivative diastereomer. Structural parameters strongly suggest that the disposition of the methacrolein in 3 and 4 is fixed by CH/pi attractive interactions between the pro-S phenyl ring of the Ph(2)PCH(CH(3)) moiety of the (R)-Prophos ligand and the CHO aldehyde proton. Proton NMR data indicate that this conformation is maintained in solution. From the structural data and the results of catalysis the origin of the enantioselectivity is discussed.

RESUMO

The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of C,N-diphenylnitrone with methacrolein is efficiently catalyzed by the rhodium diphosphine compound (SRh,RC)-[(eta5-C5Me5)Rh(R-Prophos)(H2O)](SbF6)2 [R-Prophos = (R)-(+)-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)-propane, 1.SbF6]; the asymmetric catalytic process occurs with reversal of regioselectivity, perfect endo selectivity, and up to 92% ee. The complete (NMR and X-ray analysis) characterization of the involved intermediate (SRh,RC)-[(eta5-C5Me5)Rh(R-Prophos)(methacrolein)](SbF6)2 (7.SbF6) allows us to interpret the observed selectivity.

RESUMO

The synthesis and characterization of Pd(phen)(bdt) (1) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, bdt = 1,2-benzenedithiolate) is presented. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c, alpha = 11.281(4) A, b = 20.498(8) A, c = 8.374(3) A, beta = 90.234(8), V = 1936.5(13) A(3), Z = 4, and is isostructural with its previously reported related complexes. The ground and low lying excited electronic states in 1 and in the related complexes Pd(bpy)(bdt) (2), Pt(bpy)(bdt) (3), Pt(bpy)(mnt) (4), and Pt(bpy)(edt) (5) [where bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, edt = ethylene-1,2-dithiolate, and mnt = maleonitriledithiolate] are studied using density functional theory techniques. The electronic properties of 1-5 are studied using the B3LYP functional. Optimized geometries are compared to experimentally observed structures. Time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) is employed to investigate the excited singlet and triplet states. The calculated energies of the lowest singlet state and the lowest triplet state in all five complexes are in considerable agreement with experimental data. It is shown that variation of both metal and dithiolate-ligand going from 1 and 2 to 3, 4, and 5 has a substantial impact on the spectroscopic and excited-state properties, indicating at the same time the mixed metal/dithiolate character of the HOMO orbital. All the low-lying transitions are categorized as MMLL'CT transitions. The emissive state of all complexes is assigned as a triplet dithiolate/metal to diimine charge transfer with differences in the structures of the emissions resulting from differences in the pi dithiolate orbital of the mnt, bdt, and edt as well as from differences in metal.
