RESUMO

Simulation has been shown to improve the preparedness of practitioners in acute care. In this review, the authors evaluate using simulation to prepare practitioners to deliver palliative care in multidisciplinary teams. The Joanna Briggs Institute approach was used and seventeen studies selected. The thematic analysis of the literature fitted well with Gabby, Le May, Connell, and Klein's ( 2014 ) pyramid approach to health improvement suggesting that simulation can be used in teams to learn technical, soft and learning skills of delivering palliative care. The analysis does not indicate how learning each of these skills interacts nor if simulations in teams should be repeated, or how often.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Theme: Complex health care and chronic disease management. INTRODUCTION: Support for bereaved parents after the death of a baby in the neonatal period is variable in the UK. AIM: To explore parents' experiences and perceptions of support needs during and following the death of their baby. METHODS: An interpretative phenomenological study using unstructured interviews was undertaken. Analysis was undertaken using interpretative phenomenological analysis. RESULTS: Parental grief journeys are complicated by events experienced at the end of their baby's life. A variety of support systems are needed to facilitate parental grief journeys. DISCUSSION: The variation in availability of support for parents after a neonatal death needs addressing. Whilst parental need is individualised, most parents need support in some format. CONCLUSIONS: Health professionals have a key role to play in supporting parents and signposting other supportive mechanisms after a neonatal death.

RESUMO

A literature review is a summary of the evidence, usually research literature, to answer a specific question ( Bettany-Saltikov 2012 ). The evidence arising from a literature search should be subject to a systematic evaluation of its quality and summary of key issues. A robust systematic review may be significant enough to warrant changes in practice.

RESUMO

It is imperative that nurses caring for children, young people and their families develop and maintain effective, trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationships that sit within the scope of professional boundaries. This relationship is the nurse's responsibility and should be positive and mutually acceptable to all stakeholders. A unique challenge for children's nurses is to address and prioritise the child's care needs, while meeting the needs of, and empowering, the family. The 6Cs--care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, commitment--should underpin care and enable nurses to overcome challenges such as time pressures, acute situations or disturbed family expectation. Confidentiality and safeguarding should always be observed.
