RESUMO

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on dermatology, but to date no bibliometric analysis of this field has been identified. Therefore, the aim of this study was to perform a bibliometric indicator analysis of the worldwide scientific production of COVID-19 in dermatology. Materials and Methods: An advanced bibliographic search was performed in the Scopus database to identify articles on COVID-19 and dermatology from 2020 to 2021. The collected information was analysed with SciVal software. Bibliometric data were described through figures and summary tables. Results: A total of 1448 documents were collected and analysed. Torello Lotti was the author with the greatest scientific production; however, Esther Freeman had the greatest impact. Harvard University was the institution with the highest number of published articles. Most papers were published in the first quartiles. The United States and Italy were the leading countries in terms of production. Articles with international collaboration had the highest impact. Conclusion: Articles related to dermatology and COVID-19 are mostly published with American and Italian affiliations. In addition, there has been an increase in the distribution of articles published in the first quartile, which would reflect a growing interest in the community. Publications with international collaboration reported the highest impact, so future authors should take this into account.

RESUMO

Background and objectives: Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an immune-mediated neuropathy. This has raised the possibility that the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) may be a biomarker of its activity. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize the evidence of NLR as a potential biomarker for GBS. Methods: We systematically searched databases (PubMed, Ovid-Medline, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO Citation Index, LILACS, and Google Scholar) until October 2021 for studies evaluating pre-treatment NLR values in GBS patients. A meta-analysis using a random-effects model to estimate pooled effects was realized for each outcome and a narrative synthesis when this was not possible. Subgroup and sensitivity analysis were realized. GRADE criteria were used to identify the certainty of evidence for each result. Results: Ten studies from 745 originally included were selected. Regarding GBS patients versus healthy controls, a meta-analysis of six studies (968 patients) demonstrated a significant increase in NLR values in GBS patients (MD: 1.76; 95% CI: 1.29, 2.24; I2 = 86%) with moderate certainty due to heterogeneity of GBS diagnosis criteria used. Regarding GBS prognosis, assessed by Hughes Score ≥ 3, NLR had a sensitivity between 67.3 and 81.5 and a specificity between 67.3 and 87.5 with low certainty due to imprecision, and heterogeneity. In relation to respiratory failure, NLR had a sensitivity of 86.5 and specificity of 68.2 with high and moderate certainty, respectively. Discussion: With moderate certainty, mean NLR is higher in GBS patients compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, we found that NLR could be a prognostic factor for disability and respiratory failure with low and moderate certainty, respectively. These results may prove useful for NLR in GBS patients; however, further research is needed. Systematic review registration: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier: CRD42021285212.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recently, the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has become a biomarker for assessing inflammatory stress and prognosis in different diseases. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize the current evidence on the capacity of the NLR to serve as a biomarker in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). METHODS: Through a comprehensive systematic search up to December 2021 and using the search terms "neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio" and "neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder" we selected studies evaluating NLR values in NMOSD patients. A meta-analysis was planned, and a narrative synthesis was performed when this was not possible. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were planned. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) approach was used to assess certainty of the evidence. RESULTS: Six studies were included (1036 patients). A significant increase in the NLR was observed between NMOSD patients and healthy controls with high heterogeneity (MD: 1.04; 95% CI: 0.76; 1.32; I2 = 59%). Regarding NMOSD prognosis, relapse (OR: 1.33 -OR: 2.14) was evaluated as being related to NLR with low certainty. An association with Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score ≥4 (OR: 1.23 -OR: 1.43) was reported with moderate certainty. An association with the occurrence of lesions on MRI was reported with an OR of 1.52. CONCLUSION: We found the NLR to be useful as a biomarker of NMOSD as it was significantly increased in the patient group compared to the healthy control group with high certainty. Additionally, the NLR was applicable as an indicator of poor prognosis with low to moderate certainty.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and its associated factors in patients who survived COVID-19 and to assess a prospective evaluation of the prevalence and severity of their depression and anxiety symptoms. METHODS: We followed up a sample of hospitalized patients who survived COVID-19 at 3 and 12 months after discharge. We assessed HRQoL (Euroqol-5D-5L) through telephone interviews. Any problem in any dimension of Euroqol-5D-5L was considered as low HRQoL. The depression and anxiety symptoms were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 tools, respectively. We estimated the adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) to low HRQoL using Poisson regression and the changes on their depression and anxiety symptoms during the follow-up. RESULTS: We included 119 patients with a mean follow-up time of 363.6 days. 74% of the participants had low HRQoL at one year after hospital discharge and were associated with being ≥ 41 years old (aPR: 1.95), having a previous history of psychiatric diagnoses before COVID-19 infection (aPR: 1.47), having any COVID-19 symptom during the follow-up at one year (aPR: 1.84), and having a family member who had died from COVID-19 during the first wave (aPR: 1.24). In addition, the clinically relevant depression symptoms were frequent, and they increased from 3 (14.3%) to 12 months (18.5%). CONCLUSION: One year after COVID-19 hospitalization discharge, patients had low HRQoL, and their depression symptoms increased. These findings acknowledge the need to provide services that adequately address mental health sequels and HRQoL to reduce the burden of the COVID-19.

RESUMO

Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been shown to have prognostic value in a number of different clinical settings, such as cardiovascular disease, including heart failure. However, its prognostic value in heart transplant (HT) recipients remains unknown. The aim of this systematic review is to determine the prognostic value of pre-transplant RDW for mortality in HT recipients. There is a pre-published protocol of this review. The terms "Heart transplant", "Red cell distribution width" and their synonyms were used in the search strategy. PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and LILACS were searched until May 17th, 2022, without date or language restrictions. Two authors independently carried out the selection, first by title and abstract, second by full-text revision. Discrepancies were discussed and resolved with three other authors. Quality of individual studies was assessed with Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) for cohorts. After removing the duplicates, 3885 articles were identified. Four articles were included in the qualitative synthesis. Three studies were classified as "good quality": whereas one as "poor quality" according to NOS scale. All the included articles evaluated long-term mortality and one study also evaluated short-term mortality. In this one, a correlation between higher RDW values and short-term mortality was reported. Meanwhile, in all the studies, a high pre-HT RDW was a marker of long-term mortality following cardiac transplantation. Our review shows that an elevated on-admission RDW is associated with long-term mortality in heart transplantation recipients.

RESUMO

As graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs) are becoming increasingly valued for sensor applications, efficiency and control of their surface functionalization become critical. Here, we introduce an innovative method using a gate electrode to precisely modulate aryldiazonium functionalization directly on graphene devices. Although this covalent chemistry is well-known, we show that its spontaneous reaction on GFETs is highly heterogeneous with a low overall yield. By dynamically tuning the gate voltage in the presence of the reactant, we can quickly enable or suppress the reaction, resulting in a high degree of homogeneity between devices. We are also able to monitor and control functionalization kinetics in real time. The mechanism for our approach is based on electron transfer availability, analogous to chemical, substrate-based, or electrochemical doping, but has the practical advantage of being fully implementable on devices or chips. This work illustrates how powerful the FET platforms are to study surface reactions on nanomaterials in real time.

RESUMO

Graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs) are emerging as bioanalytical sensors, in which their responsive electrical conductance is used to perform quantitative analyses of biologically-relevant molecules such as DNA, proteins, ions and small molecules. This review provides a detailed evaluation of reported approaches in the design, operation and performance assessment of GFET biosensors. We first dissect key design elements of these devices, along with most common approaches for their fabrication. We compare possible modes of operation of GFETs as sensors, including transfer curves, output curves and time series as well as their integration in real-time or a posteriori protocols. Finally, we review performance metrics reported for the detection and quantification of bioanalytes, and discuss limitations and best practices to optimize the use of GFETs as bioanalytical sensors.

Alternatives and difficulties in the processes of citizen participation and transformation ". Its objectives are: to identify associative strategies that establish the organizations that resist the exclusion, as well as to explore and to describe the levels of subjective modeling and suffering. The type of study is descriptive exploratory; participatory, multi-case design; the Research-Action-Participatory method and the techniques are qualitative. The characteristics of an alternative model of cooperative management of urban waste recycling respond to the liberal mutation of the Welfare State, correlative to the metamorphosis of labor and employment in Argentina. The case presents a unique combination of cooperativism, relations with the neighborhood and other social actors. When the appeal to the State fails, it resorts to Corporate Social Responsibility, in a link with traditional companies.

RESUMO

All-organic-based photovoltaic solar cells have attracted considerable attention because of their low-cost processing and short energy payback time. In such systems the primary dissociation of an optical excitation into a pair of photocarriers has been recently shown to be extremely rapid and efficient, but the physical reason for this remains unclear. Here, two-dimensional photocurrent excitation spectroscopy, a novel non-linear optical spectroscopy, is used to probe the ultrafast coherent decay of photoexcitations into charge-producing states in a polymer:fullerene based solar cell. The two-dimensional photocurrent spectra are interpreted by introducing a theoretical model for the description of the coupling of the electronic states of the system to an external environment and to the applied laser fields. The experimental data show no cross-peaks in the twodimensional photocurrent spectra, as predicted by the model for coherence times between the exciton and the photocurrent producing states of 20 fs or less.

RESUMO

The synthesis, characterization and solid-state luminescence spectroscopy of mononuclear (f), heterodinuclear (d-f) and heterotrinuclear (d-f-d) coordination compounds with the compartmental ligand N,N'-bis(3-hydroxyl salicylidene)benzene-1,2-diamine (H2L) are reported. The trivalent lanthanide ions Nd(III), Sm(III), Eu(III), Gd(III), Tb(III) and Dy(III) as single metal centres or in combination with either Zn(II) or Ni(II) were coordinated. Compounds are characterised by elemental analyses, IR, 1D and 2D solution (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy, measurements of magnetic moments and solid state UV-Vis-NIR reflectance, luminescence and Raman spectroscopy techniques. Crystal structures of the dinuclear compounds [SmZn(O2NO)3(L)(OH2)]·EtOH and [DyZn(O2NO)2(Cl)(L)(EtOH)]·3EtOH and the trinuclear compound [TbZn2(L)2(Cl)2(OH2)](NO3)·EtOH are presented, where samarium(iii) displays a coordination number of ten, with a bicapped cubic geometry, while for the dysprosium compound a nine-coordinated environment with a tricapped trigonal prismatic geometry is shown. Their crystals belong to the triclinic system and the P1[combining macron] space group. The coordination number for terbium(iii) in the trinuclear complex is nine, with a tricapped trigonal prismatic geometry, and its crystal belongs to the monoclinic system, space group C2/c. For these three compounds, the zinc ion stabilises a penta-coordinated environment with square pyramid geometry. All mononuclear and dinuclear compounds are neutral, whereas the trinuclear complexes are ionic. The results of DFT theoretical calculations for the ligand (H2L) are used to assign the ligand singlet and triplet excited state energy levels. Luminescence studies of the neodymium compounds indicate that the ligand is a sensitizer for NIR emitters.

The prevalence of antibiotic resistance has resulted in the need for new approaches to be developed to combat previously easily treatable infections. The main aim of this work was to establish the potential of the synthetic α-diimine chromium(III) and ruthenium(II) complexes (where the α-diimine ligands are bpy = 2,2-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, and dppz = dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]-phenazine) like [Cr(phen)3](3+), [Cr(phen)2(dppz)](3+), [Ru(phen)3](2+), and [Ru(bpy)3](2+) as antibacterial agents by generating oxidative stress. The [Cr(phen)3](3+) and [Cr(phen)2(dppz)](3+) complexes showed activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 0.125 µg/mL to 1 µg/mL, while [Ru(phen)3](2+) and [Ru(bpy)3](2+) do not exhibit antimicrobial activity against the two bacterial genera studied at the concentration range used. When ciprofloxacin was combined with [Cr(phen)3](3+) for the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, an important synergistic effect was observed, FIC 0.066 for S. aureus and FIC 0.064 for E. coli. The work described here shows that chromium(III) complexes are bactericidal for S. aureus and E. coli. Our results indicate that α -diimine chromium(III) complexes may be interesting to open new paths for metallodrug chemotherapy against different bacterial genera since some of these complexes have been found to exhibit remarkable antibacterial activities.

RESUMO

Using either luminescence intensity or lifetime measurements, we have studied the binding interactions of Cr(NN)(3)(3+) (NN=α-diimine ligands) with non-ionic solutions of surfactant p-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenoxypoly(ethylene glycol), Triton X-100 (TX-100). The titration curves consisted of two curved regions with different slopes. This biphasic behavior of lifetime-TX-100 concentration data revealed the presence of premicellar aggregates at low TX-100 concentration and the formation of normal micelles at high surfactant concentration. The results were analyzed with a model that includes binding of Cr(NN)(3)(3+) (probe) to small premicellar aggregates and to micelles. There is a good correlation between the hydrophobicity of the ligands of Cr(III) complex and the strength of the binding of the complexes to the micelles. A comparison with the binding of Cr(NN)(3)(3+) to sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) is discussed.
