RESUMO

Total cholesterol, triglycerides, high and low density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured in 40- to 59-year-old males from Moscow, Tallinn, a mountain village in the Caucasus and settlements in the Chukotka. Mean values, and 10th and 90th percentiles were determined for each of the populations examined. The Moscow and Tallinn populations were found to be similar biochemically and differ from rural populations. Dyslipoproteinemias were more atherogenic in urban residents, as compared to their rural counterparts. It is suggested that dyslipoproteinemias have geographic and ethnic determinants that may contribute to the degree of atherogeny implicit in any type of lipid metabolic disorders.

RESUMO

Malonic dialdehyde (MDA) content was studied in 23 patients with CHD due to coronary atherosclerosis, and in 6 with neurocirculatory dystonia without clinical and angiographic signs of CHD. MDA content as an indirect equivalent of cyclic endoperoxides was higher in the platelets, LDL and VLDL in patients with CHD. It may be a cause of TxA2 and PGI2 unbalance in the blood circulation and leads to the activation of thrombus formation, the decrease in the synthesis of "antiatherogenic" biologically active substances, in particular PGI2, thus promoting the development of CHD due to coronary atherosclerosis.

RESUMO

Concentrations of protein-bound hydroxyprolin, free hydroxyproline, cholesterol, alpha-cholesterol, triglycerides, testosterone, estradiol, insuline and 3',5'-cAMP were estimated in blood plasma of 40-59 years old men. The persons thus examined were divided into three groups depending on the content of protein-bound hydroxyproline. Only in blood plasma of persons with low concentration of the protein-bound hydroxyproline a direct correlation was found between cAMP and testosterone, cAMP and alpha-cholesterol, between cAMP and the ratio of the cholesterol from atherogenous lipoproteins to the cholesterol from alpha-lipoproteins, as well as reciprocal correlation--between cAMP and insulin. The increase of protein-bound hydroxyproline concentration and the decrease of cAMP content in blood plasma might be related to proliferation of smooth muscle cells in the vessel wall, dependent, first, on alteration in the ratio of lipoproteins of various density in blood plasma and, second, on alteration in the hormone concentration in blood and tissues.

RESUMO

Chronic kidney insufficiency, caused by subtotal nephrectomy, did not lead to distinct alterations in hydroxyproline concentration in blood and to its excretion in rats within 1-1.5 months after the operation. Content of salt-soluble collagen was decreased in diaphyses of rat tubular bones in chronic kidney insufficiency; in the epiphyses (with metaphyses) content of the collagen fraction was increased, but the concentration of non-soluble collagen was unaltered. Decrease in content of salt-soluble collagen in diaphyses in chronic kidney insufficiency was similar to that in experimental vitamin D deficiency. The decrease might be due to impairment in formation of the active form of vitamin D-1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol. Other pathogenetic factors (effect of uremic toxins and stress) were apparently of primary importance for development of impairments of collagen metabolism in epiphyses. Dihydrotachysterol, the structural analogue of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol, normalized the alterations in content of salt-soluble collagen in diaphyses and did not affect the impairments of collagen metabolism in epiphyses of rat bones in chronic kidney insufficiency.

RESUMO

In 47 patients with atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries the concentration of the blood serum free oxyproline was up by comparison with the normal figure and it depended not so much on the stage of the disease, but rather upon the character of hyperlipoproteinemia. A higher oxyproline concentration was revealed in the blood serum of patients presenting the IIb and IV types of hyperlipoproteinemia. The results of experimental investigations suggest that the activation of the glucocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex in patients with atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries results in a more intensive catabolism of the vascular wall collagen and in attending it rise of the blood serum free oxyproline concentration.
