RESUMO
Enterocutaneous fistula (ECF) is a common complication of many abdominal surgeries. Although most ECF resolve spontaneously, there are many factors that can lead to persistence of the fistula. Management of persistent enterocutaneous fistula usually involves surgery with recurrence of fistula being the most common complication. Here we describe a case of 67-year-old female who presented with intussusception following repair of a persistent enterocutaneous. Given the rare finding of intussusception in adults, this case report presents an interesting complication.
RESUMO
This survey reviews significant statutory developments and appellate court decisions addressing workers' compensation issues for the period from October 2016 through September 2017. Workers' compensation systems are state statutory programs; the direct effect of statutes and precedents outside of their state of origin is limited. Nevertheless, compensation principles and laws have much in common among states and much can be learned from studying how legislatures and courts of other jurisdictions have treated similar issues. It is notable that when state courts cannot adjudicate an issue based solely upon a statute's plain language, and no precedent of the jurisdiction is determinative, they often consider authority from other states. Given the state-based character of compensation laws, not all of the cases discussed here can be considered to be landmark decisions, but they are significant for what they can teach lawyers and judges about how workers' compensation laws are structured and interpreted.

In conclusion, delirium is a common postoperative complication that especially impacts the elderly population. It contributes to a significant increase in morbidity, mortality, length of inpatient stay, and medical costs. Even with preventive efforts, many patients will develop postoperative delirium. While the gold standard treatment is to correct the underlying disorder, many therapies ranging from the use of antipsychotics to patient comfort measures are used to decrease the severity and duration of postoperative delirium. The most practical approach for physicians is continuous vigilance for the emergence of postoperative delirium. Movement toward increased use of multidisciplinary inpatient ward teams, early psychiatric consultation during postoperative delirium, larger clinical trials of prophylactic medications, and future research on delirium's pathogenesis will decrease complications of this common clinical problem.
