RESUMO

Ultradian oscillations in the number of karyocytes isolated from the femoral bone of intact ACR mice have been demonstrated. The periodicity of oscillations did not depend on the season or the site of mice breeding. The bone marrow also showed ultradian oscillations in relative and absolute amount of lymphoid, myeloid and mitotic cells. It is postulated that differentiation and migration of bone marrow cells might have ultradian biorhythms.

RESUMO

The growth of syngeneic hepatoma H-2-73 in adult (CBA x C57BL/6j) F1 mice leads to the development of leukemoid response that is manifested by leukocytosis, splenomegaly and a considerable increase in the content of lymphoid cells in the spleen. Meanwhile the newborn recipients of the tumor do not develop leukemoid response but manifest physiological changes in the hemopoietic tissue normally occurring within the first weeks after birth. The sensitized cells of the spleen of the adult tumor-bearing mice enhance tumor growth in the newborn recipients and inhibit it in the adult mice. Spleen cells of normal adult donors do not affect tumor growth in the newborn recipients. The data obtained suggest that the opposite effect of the transferred sensitized spleen cells from the adult animals on tumor growth in the newborn and adult mice is related to the age-associated features of the immune system of recipient mice.

RESUMO

The growth of allogeneic ascites hepatoma is accompanied by involution of the thymus, leukemoid response and anemia. Tumor cells disseminate throughout the body appearing in many organs including the spleen, liver, bone marrow and lymph nodes. The activity of adenosine deaminase and the adenosine deaminase/purine nucleosidephosphorylase ratio decrease in the host thymus as well as in the cellular elements of the spleen. The above phenomena reflect the impairment of lymphocyte differentiation and presumably contribute to the decreased efficiency of the host immune response.

RESUMO

The growth of syngeneic hemangiopericytoma in CBA X X C57BL/6j)F1 male mice was attended by the development of leukemoid reaction. The spleen showed an abrupt increase of the area taken by the red pulp with a remarkable activation of erythropoiesis in the pulp. The peripheral blood developed erythrocytosis 7 days after transplantation of pericytoma followed by anemia.

RESUMO

Simultaneous administration to B6 female mice of deoxycytidine in doses exceeding 2--3-fold those of cytosar (20 mg/kg three times a day for 4 days) prevents lethal toxicity induced by cytosar, protects the bone marrow and spleen, hemopoietic stem cells, myeloid and erythroid cells of the bone marrow, spleen and blood. It also protects spleen and blood lymphocytes from cytosar toxic effect by does not protect thymus or bone marrow lymphocytes.

RESUMO

The presence of the common antigen on B lymphocytes of healthy donors and myeloblasts of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in blastic crisis was observed with antimyeloblastic serum in the indirect surface immunofluorescence test. The cytotoxic test showed this antigen in the blastic cells in 27 out of 57 patients with CML BC, in 3 of 11 patients with acute lymphoid leukemia, in 1 of 8 patients with chronic lymphoid leukemia and in 2 of 2 patients with undifferentiated leukemia. The antigen was not found in the peripheral blood cells of healthy donors.

RESUMO

Changes in the absolute number of splenic cells of mice infected with Rauscher leukemia virus (RLV) and a day later--with living Brucella (BA) were studied. The increase in the absolute number of splenic cells of mice infected with RLV + BA was initially caused by the lymphoid tissue reaction to Brycella and then by the development of leukemia. The number of reticular cells in the spleen appeared to be larger than the control (RLV) within all observation periods; the number of basophilic normocytes amounted to the control, but an increase in the erythroblasts number was noted a week later and reached the control level by the 30th day, practically being unchanged subsequently. In mice receiving RLV + BA there was the increased monocyte, plasmatic cell, megakaryocyte, myeloid series cell count. The shift of splenic granulocytes to the "left", the development of leukocytosis, blood neutrophilia, in particular, lagged 1--2 weeks behind in such mice. The number of normocytes getting into the blood was decreased. All this would result in a significant extension of the lifespan in mice RLV + BA.

RESUMO

Hemangiopericytoma growth in syngeneic male mice F1 (CBA X C57BL/bj) led to regular hemopoietic changes: an increase in the spleen weight, spleen cell count, in the number of colony-forming units (CFU). It also induced augmentation of myelopoiesis in the spleen and leukocytosis with a sharp increase of segmented granulocytes in the circulating blood characterized as the "leukemoid reaction" syndrome. The latter occurred even when the tumour cells were transplanted into the splenectomized host. Although less marked, this leukemoid reaction was also noted in advanced hepatoma transplanted to syngeneic male mice F1 (CBA X C57BL/6j). No leukemoid reaction was observed in these mice after grafting syngeneic strain of urinary bladder carcinoma.

RESUMO

The immune antimyeloblast serum (AMS) was obtained from horses immunized with white blood cells from patients suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) at the blast crisis stage; the serum was completely absorbed with normal red blood cells and white blood cells (WBC). The absorbed antiserum remained cytotoxic to blast cells from 20 of 42 patients with CML at the blast crisis stage. AMS failed to react with the WBC from patients with CML in its chronic phase, and from patients with other types of leukemia Morphological studies indicated a possibility of identification of the antigen associated with myeloblasts from the blood of patients with CML blast crisis, by means to AMS.

RESUMO

Comparative experiments have demonstrated a qualitative difference of protective effects, observed in peroral application of 2'-desoxycytidine molecular solution and activated carbon suspension with 2'-desoxycytidine molecules adsorbed onto its particles with regard to the toxicity of intraperitoneal injections of cytosine arabinoside in female C57bl/6j mice. In contrast to 2'-deosyxycytidine molecular solution, which reduced all toxic manifestations and protected animals from death, the corpuscular form of the protector only the toxic effect of the antimetabolite on the intestine without affecting other toxic manifestations, the inhibition of hemopoiesis in particular.

RESUMO

The injection of sera of adult mice or of a 20% extract of small and large intestine, liver, kidney, spleen, thymus, and lungs of adult mice suppressed the alpha1 fetoprotein production in syngeneic newborn recipients. Extracts of the striated muscles of adult mice had a meager inhibitory effect. Extracts of mouse embryonic intestine and those of the while embryo without the gastrointestinal tract had almost negligible amounts of suppressing factor. The possible role of humoral factors regulating the synthesis of embryonic antigens for the control of tumor growth was discussed author...
