Twenty-seven pregnant women with cicatrices on the uterus after cesarean section had US-monitored spontaneous deliveries with calypsol analgesia (the drug was permanently i.v. infused). The intactness of the uterine walls in the postpartum period was checked up by bicontrast ultrasonic scanning and hysteroscopy.

Successful management of 26 normal deliveries has demonstrated a high diagnostic value of ultrasonic examination of the cicatrix on the uterus before, during, and immediately after delivery. Employment of this method to choose the strategy of labor management helped reduce the number of vaginal examinations in a number of cases and do without control manual examinations of the postpartum uterine cavity.

The study was undertaken to examine 105 cases showing great discrepancies++ between the true fetal mass and that estimated from echographic evidence. Main reasons for high inaccuracies were outlined in predicting fetal mass and possible ways of reducing the frequency of mistakes in estimating fetal mass from prenatal ultrasonographic findings were proposed.
