RESUMO

THE AIM OF THE STUDY: Was to identify the features of the anatomical structure of the root canals of teeth according to CBCT data in patients in different age groups. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients of europeoid race, both sexes, who have indications for endodontic treatment (60 people), were divided into three groups: group 1 (young) 20 people aged 18 to 44 years, group 2 (middle age) 20 people - from 45 to 60 years, group 3 (elderly) 20 people - from 61 to 75 years old. To assess the root canal anatomy, all patients underwent x-ray examination (CT) on a Vatech computed tomography and analyzed with the Ez3D plus program before beginning endodontic treatment. The object of study was the first molars of the lower jaw (distal root canal). RESULTS: The analysis of axial, sagittal, coronal sections of the first molar of the lower jaw revealed that patients belonging to the 1st group, the distal root canal often had an oval shape all over (95%) and over a wide apical opening, in only one case out of 20 (5%) were identified at slit-like form of the distal root canal, probably due to malocclusion or as a consequence of increased abrasion of teeth. In group 2, two independent root canals were identified in the distal root of the first lower molar (in 65%), extending from the tooth cavity to the apex.in 35% of cases, the distal root canal began with a single entrance in the oral part and bifurcated into two separate channels at about the level of 2 /3 canals, then re - joined into a single apical opening, in group 3, in 75% of cases, a slit-like form of the distal root canal was observed. The obtained CLCT data (taking into account the image error) were confirmed in the clinic at the stage of endodontic treatment using optical magnification (microscope). CONCLUSION: CBCT and operation microscopy with x40 magnification data showed clear age-dependent variations of first lower molar distal root canal anatomy.

RESUMO

This study aim was to improve the effectiveness of treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate in combination with crowding of teeth receiving long-term orthodontic treatment. The study involved 30 patients divided in 3 groups in which chlorhexidine-containing medication was included in the individual prevention and treatment program. The effectiveness of using 0.2% CG gel was assessed after 6 months to control the development of inflammatory phenomena in periodontal tissues during long-term orthodontic treatment. The obtained clinical and laboratory data indicate the normalization of the cytokine profile and oral hygiene indices as a result of using a CG-containing preparation for effective control of the biofilm etiological factor.

RESUMO

In a study of 537 patients with chronic generalized periodontitis and metabolic syndrome (MS) depending on age and gender, it was found that the increase of TNF-α and IL-6 in the content of periodontal pockets correlated with the severity of chronic generalized periodontitis and MS. For these cytokines, there was a clear gender relationship: women had higher levels in periodontal pocket content than men. For IL-1ß and IL-4 cytokines, there is no coupling between the severity of the damage and the level of cytokines in the periodontal pocket. The developed model for calculating the risk of chronic generalized periodontitis depending on the level of TNF-α in the patient's periodontal pockets allows predicting and monitoring the dynamics of the disease.

RESUMO

The new concept of continuous medical education is based on individual learning paths of each specialist in conjunction with the use of modern educational technologies, including IT. The aim of this study was to undertake a review of modern methods of health care professionals training in the framework of continuous medical education profile introduced by the Ministry of Health. The paper presents the best IT practices of Central Research Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery in the training of dentists and maxillofacial surgeons aimed for the modernization of medical education.

RESUMO

Among microorganisms found in the oral cavity there are several kinds of periodontopathogenic bacteria having higher adhesive, invasive and toxic properties. Eighty patients with moderate and severe chronic generalized periodontitis were included in the study. The choice of treatment regimen depended on real-time PCR values of pathogenic microorganisms in periodontal pockets. Data on composition of periodontal pockets microflora by moderate and severe periodontal disease allow prompt target antimicrobial therapy.

RESUMO

The modern level of knowledge on the etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal disease identifies microbial factor as the dominant cause of the development of aggressive and typical forms of periodontitis. The study involved 125 patients with chronic generalized periodontitis and aggressive forms of periodontitis divided in 2 groups. The treatment tactics was chosen selectively depending on the amount of periodontopathogenic microorganisms revealed by real-time PCR. In patients treated with antibiotics this amount decreased significantly resulting in clinical improvement and rapid remission.

RESUMO

The inflammatory diseases of periodont are a serious medical social problem. The OHIP-14, the questionnaire concerning the quality of life is one of the most applied in stomatology. In stomatology, the most frequently applied questionnaire concerning life quality is OHIP-14. The patients participated in the study were divided on three groups depending on tactics of treatment. The application of comprehensive periodontological treatment enhances the life quality on all scales both in patients with severe chronic periodontitis and in patients with aggressive periodontitis. The life quality enhanced the most in patients underwent repeatedly the supportive therapy.
