Cardiopatías y embarazo / Pregnancy and heart disease

La cardiopatía es la causa más frecuente de muerte materna indirecta en el mundo. Es decir, la presencia de enfermedad cardíaca no excluye el embarazo, pero aumenta el riesgo para la madre y para el feto y requiere de un tratamiento especial. Los cambios hemodinámicos propios del embarazo pueden hacer sospechar la presencia de enfermedad cardíaca, por lo que es importante conocer los síntomas y signos indicadores de cardiopatía estructural en la mujer embarazada. La morbimortalidad materna dependerá del tipo de cardiopatía y de la capacidad funcional en el momento de la concepción. De otro lado las gestaciones en madres cardiópatas se han asociado también a mayor incidencia de problemas para el feto, y por tanto, de un aumento de la mortalidad perinatal(AU)

Heart disease is the most common cause of indirect maternal death in the world. That is, the presence of heart disease does not preclude pregnancy, but increases the risk for mothers and fetuses and requires special medical attention. Hemodynamic changes that typically appear with pregnancy can lead to suspicion of heart disease, so it is important to know the symptoms and warning signs of structural heart disease in pregnant women. Maternal mortality depends on the type of heart disease and on the functional capacity at the time of conception. On the other hand, pregnancy in mothers with heart disease has also been associated with higher rates of problems for the fetus, therefore with an increase in perinatal mortality(AU)
