RESUMO

It is the review of literature data on various phenotypic anomalies consequent to the absent or reduced ability of the target tissues to response to androgens (A) due to defects in receptor A structure and function. Clinical forms of resistance to A, quantitative and qualitative abnormalities in hormone-receptor interaction detectable in relevant patients are described as well as markers of target tissue sensitivity to A action suggested for use in prognosticating the response to A treatment.

RESUMO

To investigate pathogenesis of arterial hypertension in diabetes mellitus, the authors measured parameters of central and peripheral hemodynamics, basal renin levels, angiotensin, aldosterone, kallikrein-kinin system. The results were analysed with regard to hypertension type: essential (EH), atherosclerotic (AH) and nephrogenic (NH). Hypokinetic circulation, defected vascular elasticity, activation of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and hypoactivity of kallikrein-kinin system were characteristic of EH and AH. Most pronounced changes in peripheral hemodynamics and hypoactivity of depressor kallikrein-kinin system were seen in NH.

RESUMO

The authors examined the level of gonadotropin (lutropin, follitropin) and sex steroids (estradiol, progesteron, testosterone) before and after administration of thyroliberin in 10 healthy women and 15 females suffering of Itsenko-Cushing disease. It was established that both the healthy and patients with Itsenko-Cushing disease did not reveal any significant changes in the level of lutropin, follitropin, estradiol, progesteron, testosteron after administration of thyroliberin within 2 hours of the examination. Data indicate absence of paradoxic response of gonadotropins and cells secreting sex steroids in Itsenko-Cushing disease.

RESUMO

Basal concentrations of plasma cortisol (F), corticosterone (B) and 11-desoxycortisol (S) and urinary excretion of glucocorticoids (17-OCS, F and B) were investigated in 50 patients with verified hormonally active adrenocortical tumors; 78 patients with Itsenko-Cushing disease (ICD) and 30 healthy controls of respective age were investigated in parallel with them. It was shown that judging by the nature of secretion, corticosteroma, corticoandrosteroma and androsteroma were mixed-type tumors producing the main glucocorticoids at substantial quantities. The levels of hormones did not differ considerably in patients with the above tumor types. When comparing patients with tumors and ICD a high basal concentration of B was found in the blood of tumor patients. In adenoma and ICD the blood and urinary level of glucocorticoids increased 2-3-fold, in malignant tumors it increased 3-5-fold and more. A noticeable rise of the blood concentration of S in a confirmed diagnosis of a tumor pointed to its malignant nature with a high degree of probability.

RESUMO

The concentration of testosterone and estradiol in the blood plasma and the binding capacity of testosterone-estradiol binding globulin (TEBG) were studied in 30 women and 6 men with Icenko-Cushing's disease in the active phase and in 24 women with hormonally active adrenal tumors. In hypercorticism against a background of unchanged of lowered concentration of plasma estradiol there was a decrease in the concentration of testosterone and an increase in the testosterone-estradiol binding capacity (TEBC) in men and an increase in the concentration of testosterone and a decrease in TEBC in women. The authors have assumed that the testosterone/TEBC ratio reflects more accurately change in the dynamics of androgens than isolated concentrations of testosterone and TEBG, and recommended its determination for the assessment of the body androgenic saturation in disturbed function of the adrenal or sex glands.

RESUMO

A study was made of the content of cortisol, corticosterone, 11-deoxycortisol, estradiol, testosterone and progesterone in the blood plasma using radioimmunoassay and of the content of these hormones or their main metabolites in the daily urine using physicochemical methods in 77 patients with an active stage of the Icenko-Cushing disease. An acute increase in cortisol secretion, a noticeable rise of progesterone secretion, and significant deviations in testosterone production having opposite nature in men and women were established: in men androgen content in the body was lowered, in women raised. The adrenals were shown to be the main site of testosterone and progesterone secretion in female patients. One-type disorders of the rhythm of secretion of hormones determined during one day (disappearance or reduction of daily variations) were revealed.

RESUMO

The paper is concerned with the results of a study of the testosterone content in the blood of 68 women with the Itsenko-Cushing disease at different stages of therapy. The testosterone level was elevated in the blood of untreated patients at the stage of exacerbation and remission following various therapeutic modalities including khloditan and returned to normal after bilateral total adrenalectomy. It is assumed that the source of testosterone hyperproduction in the Itsenko-Cushing disease is the adrenals.

RESUMO

Thirty-nine young women with encephalopathies pathogenetically related to thyrotoxicosis were examined for the content of sexual hormones and gonadotrophins in the blood by radioimmunoassay and in the urine by physicochemical methods. The content of estradol in the blood plasma of the examined patients remained unchanged whereas the excretion of estrogens with the urine declined. The content of testosterone in the blood plasma and urine increased, excretion of 17-ketosteroids with the urine ascended. The blood content of gonadotrophins, particularly lutrophin, markedly increased. The cure of encephaloophthalmopathy was followed by a tendency toward the attenuation and normalization of the changes detected in the content of sexual hormones and gonadotrophins.

RESUMO

In 36 young males with encephaloophthalmopathy, resultant of thyrotoxicosis, androgen and estrogen concentrations were studied using radioimmunoassay (for the blood determination) and physico-chemical methods (for the urine detection). The blood plasma and urine androgen levels decreased in the patients examined. The total 17-ketosteroid excretion remained unchanged, whereas the fraction ratio was disordered. The blood plasma and urine estrogen content increased. A tendency of normalizing the changed sex hormone levels was observed in patients with encephaloophthalmopathy after recovery.
