RESUMO
The polymerase chain test (PCT) (DNA diagnosis) is comparable with other routine diagnostic methods, but has a variety of advantages over then: it is much more highly sensitive and specific, provides results more promptly than culturing. The tests have indicated that the Polytub diagnostic kit may be recommended for use at medical facilities in Russia to detect tuberculosis pathogen DNA in the sputum, urine, exudate, and spinal fluid using PCT.

Resort therapy-induced immunological changes were studied in 67 children from the unfavourable environmental areas, out of them 38 children (an experimental group) on Vetoron and 29 untreated children (a control group). The examinees were found to have secondary (acquired) immunodeficiency appeared as lower levels of immunoglobulin (Ig) A and higher levels of IgM, IgG and IgE. The health resort therapy improved the body's overall responsiveness--elevated the levels of IgA and IgM-reduced these of IgE, enhanced the activity of alkaline phosphatase and increased monocyte counts. The use Vetoron enhanced the efficiency of spa therapy in the examined children versus the matched ones, significantly elevated the relative levels of T lymphocytes and IgG and increased the activity of phagocytes.

Oral administration of water-soluble beta-carotin (vetoron) in combined treatment of duodenal ulcer induces more significant reduction of inflammatory and atrophic lesions, faster healing in the test subjects compared to the controls. Vetoron microclysters with oil stimulate regression of the atrophy, recover small surface vessels, reduce inflammation in colon mucosa of patients affected with chronic proctosigmoiditis.

The results of examination of 92 patients with sarcoidosis of the respiratory organs by a medical and labor examination commission were analyzed and it was shown that the majority of the patients (85.9 per cent) had no signs of permanent loss of the working ability. However, shortcomings in the work on diagnosing the disease resulted in late hormonal therapy of the patients and brought difficulties in drawing the conclusion on their working ability since the positive time course of pulmonary lesions was not sufficient because of short-term hormonal therapy. Permanent loss of the working ability resulted from progressing and generalized sarcoidosis, pronounced functional impairment of the cardiopulmonary system and unfavourable labor conditions.
