RESUMO

Coccidioidomycosis has been reported in almost every tissue of the human body. The gastrointestinal tract and breast have been uniquely spared from this fungal infection. Despite the exceedingly large number of screening mammographies that are performed every year, to our knowledge subcutaneous breast tissue involvement as the sole presentation or of secondary spread of coccidioidomycosis has not been reported. We describe a patient who showed an unusual manifestation of a coccidioidal breast nodule simulating a neoplasm. The patient had been transiently immunosuppressed by prednisone therapy for presumptive temporal arteritis.

RESUMO

A unique case of lymphocyte depletion Hodgkin's disease of the urinary bladder in a 91-year-old woman was diagnosed by exfoliative cytology on a single passed urine specimen. Subsequent bladder biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. Retrospectively, it was ascertained that the patient had had a previous diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease based on biopsy of a cervical lymph node ten years previously. This is the first case to be reported in which the presence of Reed Sternberg cells in a cytologic preparation of the urine led to the diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease with involvement of the bladder.

RESUMO

A case of angiosarcoma of the breast with a fatal outcome is reported, and the world literature on this rare type of breast tumor is reviewed. Familiarity with the clinical and pathologic features of this entity is essential in avoiding underdiagnosis and delay of definitive treatment. The three-year survival rate of reported cases was 38%. However, the three-year, disease-free survival was only 14%. Five cases with five-year, disease-free survival have been reported to date. Eighteen patients (21%) showed contralateral breast involvement; in half of these, it occurred before other evidence of tumor dissemination. Simple mastectomy appears to be the optimal treatment of choice, since axillary node involvement is extremely rare. The role of irradiation and chemotherapy as adjuvant therapy remains to be evaluated.

RESUMO

Extraovarian Brenner tumors are extremely rare. Three paratesticular lesions have been observed in men. The only extraovarian Brenner tumor in a woman previously reported was located in the broad ligament. This paper describes a small tumor with histologic features of Brenner tumor within the wall of the uterus. The possible histogenesis is briefly discussed.
