BACKGROUND: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is declared in 3 to 6 % of postpartum women (PP) and up to 18.5 % in cases of complications of pregnancy or childbirth. The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of PTSD after a red code cesarean section and to identify the risk factors among the prenatal vulnerability factors, the birth alert factors and the maintenance factors in PP. METHOD: A phone or computerized questionnaire including an Questionnaire de stress immédiat and the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 was offered to patients who had a red code cesarean section between 05/12/2015 and 02/28/2021 at the University South Hospital of Reunion Island. RESULTS: Among the 555 cesarean sections selected, 329 parturients responded. The prevalence of PTSD was 20.1 % and was stable over time. The 2 risk factors found were the negative experience of childbirth and the proven traumatic experience. Prenatal vunerability factors were not found to be statistically significant. Almost 3 in 4 women had not been informed of the risk of cesarean section and more than 1 in 2 women did not have an explanation in PP. CONCLUSION: Red code cesarean sections cause PTSD in 1 in 5 women. This lasting disorder can last up to 6 years after childbirth. This indicates the seriousness of this disorder and the need to prevent it. The risk of developing it is 4 times greater in the event of a traumatic experience proven in the Questionnaire de stress immédiat. Offering this questionnaire in the maternity could be an important element of secondary prevention. The role of health personnel remains essential.

Numerous pyrotechnic devices are used on satellites to separate structural subsystems, deploy appendages, and activate on-board operating subsystems. The firing of these pyrotechnic mechanisms leads to severe impulsive loads which could sometimes lead to failures in electronic systems. The objective of the present investigation is to assess the relevance of a method combining deterministic calculations and statistical energy analysis to predict the time overall shock environment of electronic equipment components. The methods are applied to the low- and high-frequency ranges, respectively, which may be defined using a modal parameter based on the effective transmissibility. Initially, in order to address the problem of the low-frequency content of the mechanical shock pulse, the linear dynamic response of the equipment was calculated using direct time integration of a finite element model of the structure. The inputs in the form of the accelerations measured in all three directions at each of the four bolted interfaces were injected into the model. The high-frequency content of the shock response is taken into account by considering the intrinsic dynamic filtering of the equipment. This frequency filter magnitude is extrapolated from the transfer function given by statistical energy analysis between the different imposed accelerations and the response accelerations. Their associated phases are synthesized by considering pseudo-modal phase variations around the group velocity of the structural flexural waves. Combining the effects of the high-frequency filter outputs and the low-frequency finite element calculations yields good predictions of the equipment shock time response over the whole frequency range of interest.

To study the roles of viral genes in the establishment and maintenance of herpes simplex virus (HSV) latency, we have developed a polymerase chain reaction assay that is both quantitative and sensitive. Using this assay, we analyzed the levels of viral DNA in trigeminal ganglia of mice inoculated corneally with HSV mutants that are defective for virus replication at one or more sites in mice and for reactivation upon ganglionic explant. Ganglia from mice infected with thymidine kinase-negative mutants, which replicate at the site of inoculation and establish latency but do not replicate acutely in ganglia or reactivate upon explant, contained a range of levels of HSV DNA that overlapped with the range found in ganglia latently infected with wild-type virus. On average, these mutant-infected ganglia contained one copy of HSV DNA per 100 cell equivalents (ca. 10(4) molecules), which was 50-fold less than the average for wild-type virus. Ganglia from mice infected with a ribonucleotide reductase deletion mutant, which is defective for acute replication and reactivation upon ganglionic explant, also contained on average one copy of HSV DNA per 100 cell equivalents. We also detected substantial numbers of HSV DNA molecules (up to ca. 10(3] in ganglia of mice infected with an ICP4 deletion mutant and other replication-negative mutants that are severely impaired for viral DNA replication and gene expression. These results raise the possibility that such mutants can establish latency, which could have important implications for mechanisms of latency and for vaccine and antiviral drug development.
