When analysis is established in an apparently moderately neurotic economy, the analytic work may at times be confronted with radical resistance of a «moral masochism» type closely related to «thought disorders» reflecting «pathological splitting» the primary relations and identifications, which had not appeared until that moment in the communication, and hence would have escaped (or would have been able to escape) the analyst. In the case of procedural figure postulated by the author, the patient's identity anxiety will appear in the analyst's s representations and contradictory ( even paradoxical) thoughts towards his patient. These are representations that the analyst had up until now partially denied and which, from this point on, gradually appear to consciousness owing to an absence or lack in the patient (AU)

RESUMO

In this paper, the author outlines Freud's fundamental hypotheses concerning the concept of traumatism, then goes on to differentiate three notions (French being a particularly apposite language for such a venture): 'traumatism', 'traumatic' (in a substantive sense) and 'trauma'. These three terms correspond to the three turning points in Freud's theory with respect to the concept of traumatism (1895-97, 1920, 1938). The author evokes also the developments that are due to Ferenczi, particularly in his later writings (1928-33), where he defined and discussed the question of 'trauma' in contemporary clinical practice; the author goes on to explore the different variations on this theme as regards mental functioning. He then defines, from a metapsychological point of view, the differences between 'traumatisms' that have been 'worked over by secondary processes', organised and governed by the pleasure-unpleasure principle ('traumatism') and 'early' or 'primary traumatisms', which interfere with the process of binding the instinctual drives ('trauma'); states of mind influenced by a traumatic imprint ('traumatic') are looked upon as belonging to both categories of the above mentioned traumatisms. The author illustrates his hypotheses with a clinical example.

In continuation to a recollection of Freud´s essential proposals on the concept of traumatism, the writer, using French as a starting point, proposes a differentiation between traumatism and trauma, terms referring to the three courses of the Dreudian theory on the concept of traumatism (1895-1897, 1920 and 1938). The writer also mentions the contributions of S. Ferenczi, who, in his later works (1928-1933), refers to and delimits the question of trauma in present day clinic. Variations of the concept under the prism of psychical functioning are discussed, leading to a specification, from the metapsychological point of view, of the differences between secondary traumatisms, organized under the supremacy of the pleasure/displeasure principle (traumatism), and early and primary traumatisms, which hinder the process of dribe binding (trauma), considering that functioning with traumatic trace (traumatic) is common to the two varieties of advanced traumatisms. The writer presents a clinical vignette to illustrate his ideas (AU)
