RESUMO

The examinations indicated that the students of mining colleges from Donbass showed unfavourable changes in their health status, including those in their immunobiological resistance and functional status. There was a direct relationship between the levels of environmental pollution and the body's changes, i.e. those in the cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular, and nervous systems. Recommendations for health promotion in the students are given in the paper.

RESUMO

With the purpose of studying the impact of ecological health hazard conditions on the juvenile organism, a total of 192 pupils of upper grades from schools in Donetsk, Makeyevka, Mariupol (conventionally a "dirty" zone) and 126 schoolchildren from Artemovsk and Krasnyi Liman (conventionally a "clean" zone) were evaluated for the immunological status. Children from the polluted zone demonstrated decreased levels of lysozyme in saliva as well as of glycogen and acid phosphatase in leucocytes, there were also deviations from the norm in the peripheral blood picture. Young residents of Mariupol appeared to have the worst findings.

RESUMO

The experiments on mongrel white rats studied toxicity of the products appearing during thermal destruction of conveyer tape TK-200 based on polyvinyl chloride and used in coal mines. The studies helped to define parameters of acute toxicity and the MACs for products of the conveyer tape burning, considering the main contents and the exposure intensity for 30-120 minutes; to determine jeopardy class; to calculate specific volatilization; to design recommendations for prevention of poisoning during fire in the mines.

RESUMO

The article presents results of study into the level of physical development, condition of the cardiovascular-, respiratory-, central nervous systems, immunobiologic resistance of the organism, prevalence of morphofunctional deviations from the norm, and morbidity rates among the students of the mining-trade secondary school (aged 15-18). It has been found out that adverse ecological situation in urban centres of the Donetsk Province together with specific character of training for occupation in coal industry have a marked negative effect on the functional status as well as health status of the adolescents. On the basis of the studies made a complex of measures has been designed to maintain and promote the health of students of the mining-trade secondary schools.

RESUMO

A study was performed on white rats of the physiological, biochemical, haematological and pathomorphological indices in separate and combined actions of formaldehyde (FA) (60.0 +/- 12.7 mg/m3 in one-time exposition and 7.2 +/- 1.2 mg/m3 in a 30-day long experiment) with a concomitant increased barometric pressure (IBP) characteristic of deep coal mines (111 and 123 kPa corresponding to 1000 and 2000 m deep mines respectively). It was established that, at 123 kPa, lipoid peroxide oxidation process was stimulated in combination with microcirculatory disorders, growing FA concentration in the serum and pulmanary tissues. The shifts were still more vivid at growing IBP.

RESUMO

A Soviet low-molecular weight polymeric preparation polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide in doses producing a marked antisilicotic effect (1 g/kg bw, 5 injections for 2 weeks or inhalations at a concentration of 57.9 +/- 4.11 mg/m3 for one hour a day 5 times a week over 8 months or throughout the entire pregnancy) does not affect generative function of rats or mice and progeny of two generations.

RESUMO

Experiments on albino rats showed that polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide (PVNO) inhalations (mol. mass 2000; 9.8 +/- 1.2 and 99 +/- 4 mg/m3 for 7 months) slowed down the course of silicosis developing with a gradual entrance and uniform distribution of dust in the lungs, but proved little effective with a one-time introduction of a large amount of "aggressive" dust because of the difficulty for the drug to reach and penetrate the sclerosed sections of the tissue. Considering low toxicity and an insignificant cumulative effect of PVNO, the electivity of its accumulation in the lungs during inhalation and marked protective action of low doses the authors hold it expedient to employ the inhalation method of administering the polymer for prevention of silicosis, while its use for curative purpose is not recommended.
