The first report of the National Task Force on Gerontology and Geriatric Care Education, excerpted herein, raises many more questions than it answers. Through its broad-brush articulation of the health care needs of older people, the report sets the environment for gauging the impact of these needs on allied health practice. Responses to a number of the implications for health care needs are now underway, yet much remains undone. In the coming year the task force will develop an action plan that addresses directly the many implications for allied health.

This paper reports the results of a job satisfaction study of four allied health groups: medical dietitians; medical technologists; occupational therapists; and, physical therapists. Comparisons of mean job satisfaction scores between professions are presented, as are comparisons to national norms. Particular emphasis is placed on the results from medical technology respondents, and a summary of anecdotal comments from medical technologists is also presented. Implications for laboratory managers and educators are discussed.

The purpose of this study was to examine the employment related differences between graduates of baccalaureate and associate degree programs in allied health education. Specifically, graduates were compared with respect to the level of professional responsibility, salary, geographic mobility, and job satisfaction. Data regarding a job placement of radiologic technologists from a baccalaureate program are reported.

The purpose of this study was to determine what allied health professionals want from continuing education programs. Both the content desired and the format of such programs were investigated. The results from five allied health disciplines are reported, including: Medical Dietetics, Medical Technology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Radiologic Technology.

The purpose of this study was to determine how allied health professionals felt about their jobs in general and about specific job facets in particular. Four groups were investigated: (1) medical dietitians; (2) physical therapists; (3) occupational therapists; and (4) medical technologists. When national norms were applied to the median scores obtained on the Job Descriptive Index (JDI), low levels of job satisfaction were revealed. Differences were found between professions.
