RESUMO

As the result of the study of the spread of Legionella in different regions of Russia, 69 cultures were isolated from different water systems. After serotyping most of these strains (85%) were identified as L. pneumophila, serogroups 1 and 6. 57% of the isolated Legionella strains were shown to be capable of causing fatal infection in guinea pigs, but only 50% of virulent cultures had a high level of virulence. More than a half of the isolated strains (67%) contained plasmid DNA with mol. weights ranging from 2.5 to 80 mD. In some strains of serogroup 1 the identity of plasmids was established by restriction analysis (endonucleases Hind III and Bam HI). The data thus obtained are indicative of the potential epidemic danger of L.pneumophila strains circulating in the environment.

RESUMO

Group cases of pseudotuberculosis, first registered at health-restoring institutions of the health resort of Gelendzhik (the Krasnodar Territory), are described. The etiology of these cases of the disease was established on the basis of clinico-epidemiological data, specific seroconversion in 66% of the examined patients and the isolation of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis strains from the feces of four patients. The combination of signs observed in the isolated strains, viz. the presence of plasmids with molecular weights of 75 and 45 MD, resistance to bactericidal factors of normal human serum and autoagglutination in cell culture medium, made it possible to consider these strains to be virulent. The cases of infection were probably caused by the use of fresh cabbage salad. The study of 3,128 rodents caught in the Krasnodar Territory, including those caught in the area of the health resort, resulted in the isolation of 105 Y. enterocolitica strains and strains of 5 other Yersinia species, but not Y. pseudotuberculosis strains. The concept on the saprozoonotic nature of pseudotuberculosis was substantiated.

RESUMO

Yersinia enterocolitica sensu stricto, Y. kristensenii, Y. aldovae and Y. intermedia strains were for the first time isolated in the Sochi districts from people, synanthropic rodents and washings from vegetables. In the adjacent alpine and subalpine areas isolates were obtained from wild rodents. 86.7% of the isolated strains were assigned to the known antigenic variants; O16; O5; O6.31; O7.8 and O6.30 serovars were predominant. All the strains isolated from people belonged to biovar 1 and O5; O6.31; O6.30 and O10 serovars. Y. intermedia and Y. aldovae belonged to O1, 2a, 3 and O16 serovars respectively. Y. kristensenii could not be agglutinated with sera against type strains of Yersiniae represented in the antigenic scheme of Wauters et al.

RESUMO

The analysis of the data on the isolation of V. cholerae from different ecological systems indicates that V. eltor do not constantly inhibit the rivers and sea at the territory under control. Hemolytically active V. cholerae without the vct gene, found to be faintly virulent and avirulent when studied on suckling rabbits used as a model and when evaluated by the complex method, show no tendency towards epidemic spread in the presence of conditions for the realization of the transmission of vibrios by the water route.

RESUMO

For the first time a case of AIDS was detected in the Krasnodar Territory of the USSR, and the presence of HIV infection in homosexuals, foreign students, and promiscuous persons was established. To study the spread of HIV infection, 5 diagnostic laboratories were created and 5 routes for the transportation of sera were organized. This permitted the screening of the population in 1988 with the complete coverage of groups to be placed under surveillance.

RESUMO

During the period of 4 years 558 halophil vibrio strains (258 V. parahaemolyticus strains and 300 V. angiolyticus strains) were isolated from the water and from the representatives of the hydrobios of the Black Sea. The vibrios were isolated the whole year round, but during the winter and spring months their lowest concentration in water was observed, while in September-October it reached its maximum. During these 4 years 102 cases of gastroenteric diseases were registered, and in some of the patients halophil vibrios were isolated. In most cases the diseases developed after the consumption of sea fish and other sea products, as well as salted vegetables. The diseases had mainly a sporadic character. 90% of the strains isolated from humans belonged to serotypes O4 : K12 and O4 : K8; besides, the presence of serotypes O3 : K33, O3 : K57, O5 : K47, O6 : K46 and O10 : K52 was revealed.
