RESUMO

In the material of 32 patients with various pathologic conditions of vertebral foramina the value was analysed of spatial option 3D CT in correlation to biplanar sections and CT multiplanar reconstructions. A significant value was found in the comparative assessment of dimensions and the degree of narrowing of the openings at different levels, localisation of osteophytes and lateral hernias. Three-dimensional reconstruction of the internal surface and vertebral foramen volume was obtained.

RESUMO

Basing on the authors' own observations and literature data diagnostic value of different imaging techniques was presented in differentiating pathologic changes deduced from deformations of urinary bladder walls. Modelling of the walls has proved to enable the localisation of the tumour without determining its character. The degree of modelling of urinary bladder wall, however, is proportionate to the size of tumour. In a considerable number of cases it was possible to exclude infiltration of the bladder wall or to show overgrowing it by neoplastic mass.

RESUMO

Basing on the material of 24 patients with intra-abdominal abscesses an analysis was performed of the diagnostic value of different imaging techniques. It has been shown that in acute conditions without focal changes CT is the technique of choice since it covers the whole abdominal cavity. Ultrasound, however, is a method mainly useful in monitoring the dynamics of the disease course.

RESUMO

Assessment of diagnostic value of three-dimensional reconstruction of computerised tomography pictures was performed on 26 patients with compound fractures of orbital and craniofacial bony structures. There were carried out examinations in the patients in standard axial or frontal sections and then three-dimensional reconstructions were obtained with bony threshold. Rotational ability of the reconstructed picture was used by performing cranial rotations in any axis and at any angle. 3-D reconstructions have distinctly revealed bony fragments displaced towards the orbital lumen from the vault to the maxillary sinus in fractures of the fundus and depressions of the medial wall to the ethmoid. Compound fractures of orbital walls tightening the superior orbital fissure, canal of the optic nerve and the apical region have revealed reconstructions with cut off screening structures combined with rotations of the obtained picture. Manipulations with the picture reveals the dimension of spatial depth allowing the assessment of distance and showing the course of fissures of multiplanar fractures branching off towards the environment.

RESUMO

Basing on the own material comprising 74 subjects of both sexes aged from 21 to 63 years the authors present possibilities of diagnosing different diseases of temporal-mandibular joints by means of CT imaging with special emphasis of 2D and 3D reconstructions. It has been shown that CT is a useful technique in revealing sustained injuries, degenerative-inflammatory changes and dislocations of the articular disc. The technique is non-invasive, well tolerated by patients and relatively available nowadays.

RESUMO

Assessment of diagnostic value of spatial (3D) CT reconstructions obtained from two dimensional axial sections was performed on the basis of the material of patients with compound fractures of the facial cranium. In correlation with radiograms and axial CT sections fractures of the jaw and jugal bone, especially the mandible, were more distinctly reconstructed. 3D reconstructions were also significantly better in the assessment of rotational displacements of intussuceptional fracture fragments. There has not, however, been shown superiority of 3 D CT in revealing small, simple fissures.

RESUMO

The material comprises a group of 33 patients in whom CT check-ups revealed the presence of recurrence after colon cancer surgery. CT examinations were performed using 3% gastrographine contrast enema, air insufflation and filling the intestine with water with the patient lying on the back and abdomen. The anastomotic recurrence was found in 11 patients (33.3%), peri-anastomotic in 14 cases (42.4%) and distant in 8 patients (24.3%). The authors emphasise the value of air insufflation in visualising the anastomotic segment and thickness of intestinal walls. They are consistent with literature data in pointing to the purposefulness of target biopsy, guided CT and determination of the level of blood serum carcinoembryonal antigen in revealing recurrences.

RESUMO

Basing on the material including 109 patients with hematuria the authors analysed, using ultrasound, the usefulness of this technique in revealing different diseases of the urinary system. The authors emphasised that USG examination in pathologic conditions accompanied by hematuria should be the basic diagnostic procedure, because of its uninvasive character.

RESUMO

Basing on 9 cases of otogenic cerebral abscess formations and on the literature data the authors discussed the value of CT contrast medium enhancement depending on the infusion technique and the time of performing sections. Correlation between visualising annular shadows identified as an abscess capsule and the technique of CT imaging has been shown.

RESUMO

Basing on the material of 124 patients operated on for cancer of the upper part of the alimentary canal the authors carried out examinations of anastomoses using various visualizing techniques in order to detect cancer recurrences. Oral biocontrast examination using various contrast media proved most efficient. It visualised early changes in the mucous membrane of the stump or anastomosis and determined the degree of flexibility of the walls. USG and CT, however, revealed the depth of wall infiltration and first of all, localisation of distant metastases in lymph nodes, especially in the liver.

RESUMO

In the material including 82 patients, after functional zonographic examinations as well as standard X-ray of temporomandibular joints (TMJ) a retrospective assessment of diagnostic value of both methods was made. Changes within TMJs were shown by means of zonography in 62% while in summation pictures in 51% cases.

RESUMO

The subject of this report is the life of W. C. Roentgen, the history of the discovery of X-rays and their role in contemporary science. Roentgen's life was entirely filled with creative scientific work. The centennial year of the discovery of X-ray, 1995, will be an opportunity for radiologists and other members of the medical community to tell public about the accomplishments of medical radiation science during 100 years of amazing progress. The radiologists all over the world are obliged to pay the tribute to the great German scientist whose discovery become the property of the whole mankind. The author, as a specialist in radiology, has tried to draw a comprehensive picture of the achievements of medicinal radiology over the last 100 years.

RESUMO

Basing on own material comprising 88 patients with diagnosed and operatively and microscopically verified kidney cancer the authors retrospectively assessed diagnostic value of urozonography, USG and CT imaging. Zonography was found to have the smallest diagnostic value (62.5%). USG had 84.1% and CT 92% diagnostic value.

RESUMO

The purpose of this communication is to assess difficulty in differentiation of various cystic formations in kidneys according to such imaging techniques as urography assisted by tomography, USG, CT. Magnetic resonance imaging was also included on the basis of reviewed publications. Study consisted of 67 patients aged 19-82, both sexes; all cases were clinically and operatively verified. According to our experience it seems that USG should be a primary technique in detecting fluid formations which meet criteria to be simple cysts. Differentiation of other types of cysts like inflammatory, haemorrhagic, complex or neoplasmatic cysts is more difficult. In these cases CTscan and fluid density assessment of present contrasted scans should be performed because of the fact that cyst walls are usually atypical and complex. Correlation of the two relatively less expensive techniques like USG and CT give us a higher degree of diagnostic sensitivity which can be compared with sensitivity of MR imaging. Diagnostic efficiency of urography depends on a size and localization of the cyst in correlation to calicopelvic system.
