Revolutionizing the structural design and determination of covalent-organic frameworks: principles, methods, and techniques.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) represent an important class of crystalline porous materials with designable structures and functions. The interconnected organic monomers, featuring pre-designed symmetries and connectivities, dictate the structures of COFs, endowing them with high thermal and chemical stability, large surface area, and tunable micropores. Furthermore, by utilizing pre-functionalization or post-synthetic functionalization strategies, COFs can acquire multifunctionalities, leading to their versatile applications in gas separation/storage, catalysis, and optoelectronic devices. Our review provides a comprehensive account of the latest advancements in the principles, methods, and techniques for structural design and determination of COFs. These cutting-edge approaches enable the rational design and precise elucidation of COF structures, addressing fundamental physicochemical challenges associated with host-guest interactions, topological transformations, network interpenetration, and defect-mediated catalysis.

Efficacy of press needle treatment in reducing chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting, and retching gastrointestinal cancer patients: A randomized controlled trial.

Objective: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and retching often pose challenges in managing patients with gastrointestinal cancer. This randomized controlled trial sought to evaluate the effectiveness of press needle therapy in mitigating CINV and retching following chemotherapy. Methods: Two hundred patients with gastrointestinal cancer undergoing folinic acid, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) chemotherapy were randomly assigned to either the press needle group or the control group. The control group received 5-hydroxytryptamine-3 (5-HT3) antagonists and dexamethasone 30 min before chemotherapy, followed by dexamethasone on days 2 and 3 after chemotherapy. In contrast, the press needle group received press needle treatment 30 min prior to chemotherapy. The primary outcome was the Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (INVR), assessed at seven time points: before chemotherapy and at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72 h post-chemotherapy. Results: All patients completed their respective treatments, and no significant adverse effects related to press needle treatment (such as skin allergies, acupoint infections, headaches, or dizziness) were reported. A two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant differences in INVR scores between the two groups (P < 0.05). Further analysis with a t-test indicated that INVR scores in the press needle treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 12, 24, and 36 hours after chemotherapy (P < 0.05), with no significant difference observed thereafter. Conclusions: Press needle treatment effectively alleviated nausea, vomiting, and retching in patients with gastrointestinal cancer undergoing chemotherapy. It represents a safe, efficient, and convenient complement to preventive treatment with 5-HT3 antagonists. Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (No. ChiCTR1900024554).

New Insight into HIV-Related Psychological Distress: A Concept Analysis.

Psychological distress is a frequently reported outcome measure in HIV research. However, because of its poor conceptualization, many studies only partially capture it because they focus solely on depression or anxiety based on symptoms. This study undertook a concept analysis of HIV-related psychological distress (HRPD) using Walker and Avant's method. The findings include HRPD's (a) attributes, including changes to emotional status, symptom burden, HIV disclosure distress and HIV-related stigma; (b) antecedents, including HIV-related stressors, cognitive appraisal of stressors and difficulty coping with the disease or treatment; and (c) consequences, including poor health outcomes and posttraumatic growth. Lazarus and Folkman's theory and the conservation of resources theory were adapted to further understand HRPD. This article provides insight into HRPD and increases the awareness of how to screen and assess HRPD at an early stage. The findings indicate the need to develop specific and rigorous measures and to provide appropriate interventions.

Role of self-efficacy in nursing organizational climate: A way to develop nurses' humanistic practice ability.

AIM: This study aimed to investigate the impact of self-efficacy on the relationship between organizational climate and humanistic practice ability (HPA) in Chinese nurses. BACKGROUND: To date, studies on the effect of organizational climate on nursing care have focused on care outcomes rather than care processes. Thus, this effect remains poorly understood. METHODS: A total of 757 participants were sampled from three tertiary hospitals in Guangdong Province from November to December 2019; subsequently, they completed a structured electronic questionnaire. A structural equation model was used to explore the impact of nursing organizational climate on nurses' HPA. RESULTS: A total of 688 valid questionnaires were collected. The nurses' average HPA score was 107.82 (SD 12.47). There was a positive correlation between organizational climate and HPA (r = .409, p < .05). Additionally, self-efficacy mediated this relationship (p < .01). CONCLUSIONS: This study provides new insights into nursing organizational climate, self-efficacy and nurses' HPA. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT: The significant mediating effect of self-efficacy suggests that managers should implement nurse professional development programmes using targeted strategies to foster greater self-efficacy, which could improve the quality of care and nurse-patient relationships.
