RESUMO
The presence of HLA antigens B8 and DR3 in an individual is associated with his predisposition to developing Basedow's disease. A comparative study of a clinical course and immunological characterization of this disease in 208 patients, divided with relation to the presence or absence of the above antigens, showed that the disease developed in patients with HLA B8 and DR3 at a younger age and was accompanied twice as more frequently by ophthalmopathy. Thyrotoxicosis relapsed among these patients in conservative therapy much more frequently. A relapse after surgical intervention in the study group was noted thrice as more frequently compared to the control group. Focal infiltration of thyroid tissue with lymphoid cells was determined twice as less frequently in patients with HLA B8 and DR3. Any statistically significant difference was unnoticed in the severity of thyrotoxicosis and the frequency of detection of antibodies to thyroglobulin.

By means of a modified Howell semisolid medium it has been established that the relative content of committed stem cells of the myeloid clone in liver and spleen tissues of human fetus, aged between 18 and 24 weeks, is higher by five times than that in the bone marrow of adults. The methods worked out for making preparations of agar cultures and for their morphocytochemical staining may be used for the identification of grown cell elements; they are simple and reproducible.

The paper presents the results of studying individual variability of the shape, size and disposition of the subthalamic nucleus. Under investigation were 100 preparations. The structure was studied in serial frontal sections of the diencephalon and midbrain taken 1 mm apart. A considerable variability of the disposition of the subthalamic nucleus was revealed relative to intracerebral reference--points used in stereotaxic operations. The limits are outlined within which stereotaxical lesions should be avoided.
