RESUMO

In acute poisonings with chlorine derivatives of phenoxy acids, the myotonic period of poisoning is marked electromyographically by the manifestations specific and non-specific for myotonia. The characteristic signs involve multiple electrical responses of muscle fibers stimulated by a single excitation impulse--potential or myotonic discharges. Non-specific alterations are characterized by prolongation of the latent period, decreased amplitude and shortening of the length of evoked action potentials, which indicates the suppression of muscle excitability. Electromyographic changes are a consequence of deranged muscle rather than of synaptic processes.

RESUMO

Single administration of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (2M-4C) to albino rats on the 9th and 10th day of gestation produces a teratogenic and embryotoxic action. A preliminary administration of phenobarbital in a dose of 80 mg/kg for 3 days largely reduced the embryotoxic effect of the drug, this manifesting itself in a lower general embryonal and post-implantation mortality, greater size and mass of the fetuses. It is suggested that the stimulation of the microsomal oxidation with phenobarbital led to a higher speed of the 2M-4C molecule decomposition and, consequently, to its lessened embryotoxic effect.

RESUMO

A 24-hour stay of the Rana temporaria tadpoles in solutions of the sodium and diethylamine salts of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacitic acid (with 1 and 2 mg/l, respectively) significantly inhibits their metamorphosis. An addition of these salts to a solution containing thyroidin in a concentration of 1--5 mg/l hinders the action of hormone stimulating metamorphosis. The effect of the sodium salt of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid prevents the destruction of some tadpoles by toxic concentrations of thyroidin. The above data justify referring the chloroderivatives of the phenoxyacetic acid to antagonists of the thyroid hormones.
