Aim: FAT10, a ubiquitin-like modifier protein, influences apoptosis, DNA damage response and tumor growth, with unclear effects on cancer prognosis. Methods: We reviewed FAT10 expression's impact on malignancy prognosis through a systematic review and meta-analysis, including studies up to September 2023 from PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science. Results: From 18 studies involving 2513 patients, FAT10 overexpression significantly reduced overall and disease-free survival across various tumors, indicating correlations with advanced disease stage, poor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and larger tumor size. Conclusion: FAT10's overexpression suggests a negative prognostic value in cancer, meriting further investigation.PROSPERO Registration Number: CRD42023431287.


This study investigated a protein called FAT10, which is involved in how cells behave, including how cancer cells grow and survive. It analyzed previous research to see if high levels of FAT10 in patients with cancer can help predict how serious their cancer is and how it might progress. After reviewing 18 studies involving 2513 patients, we found that patients with more FAT10 in their cells often had a worse outlook, including a higher chance of the cancer returning and a shorter overall survival time. This pattern existed for different types of cancer. Our findings suggest that measuring FAT10 levels could be helpful for doctors to better understand a patient's cancer and choose the best treatment. However, more studies are needed to confirm our results.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate digital ray, based on preoperative and postoperative image pairs using style transfer generative adversarial networks (GANs), to enhance cataractous fundus images for improved retinopathy detection. METHODS: For eligible cataract patients, preoperative and postoperative colour fundus photographs (CFP) and ultra-wide field (UWF) images were captured. Then, both the original CycleGAN and a modified CycleGAN (C2ycleGAN) framework were adopted for image generation and quantitatively compared using Frechet Inception Distance (FID) and Kernel Inception Distance (KID). Additionally, CFP and UWF images from another cataract cohort were used to test model performances. Different panels of ophthalmologists evaluated the quality, authenticity and diagnostic efficacy of the generated images. RESULTS: A total of 959 CFP and 1009 UWF image pairs were included in model development. FID and KID indicated that images generated by C2ycleGAN presented significantly improved quality. Based on ophthalmologists' average ratings, the percentages of inadequate-quality images decreased from 32% to 18.8% for CFP, and from 18.7% to 14.7% for UWF. Only 24.8% and 13.8% of generated CFP and UWF images could be recognised as synthetic. The accuracy of retinopathy detection significantly increased from 78% to 91% for CFP and from 91% to 93% for UWF. For retinopathy subtype diagnosis, the accuracies also increased from 87%-94% to 91%-100% for CFP and from 87%-95% to 93%-97% for UWF. CONCLUSION: Digital ray could generate realistic postoperative CFP and UWF images with enhanced quality and accuracy for overall detection and subtype diagnosis of retinopathies, especially for CFP.\ TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: This study was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05491798).

OBJECTIVES: Cognitive impairment poses considerable challenges among older adults, with the role of family support becoming increasingly crucial. This study examines the association of children's residential proximity and spousal presence with key modifiable risk factors for dementia in cognitively impaired older adults. METHODS: We analyzed 14,600 individuals (35,165 observations) aged 50 and older with cognitive impairment from the Health and Retirement Study (1995-2018). Family support was categorized by spousal presence and children's residential proximity. Modifiable risk factors, including smoking, depressive symptoms, and social isolation, were assessed. Associations between family support and the modifiable risk factors were determined using mixed-effects logistic regressions. RESULTS: A significant proportion of older adults with cognitive impairment lacked access to family support, with either no spouse (46.9%) or all children living over 10 miles away (25.3%). Those with less available family support, characterized by distant-residing children and the absence of a spouse, had a significantly higher percentage of smoking, depressive symptoms, and social isolation. Moreover, we revealed a consistent gradient in the percentage of the risk factors by the degree of family support. Relative to older adults with a spouse and co-resident children, those without a spouse and with all children residing further than 10 miles displayed the highest percentage of the risk factors. These findings were robust to various sensitivity analyses. CONCLUSIONS: Family support from spouses and nearby children serves as a protective factor against modifiable dementia risk factors in cognitively impaired older adults. Policies that strengthen family and social support may benefit this population.

Liquor-pairing food is a common dietary combination. Baijiu and peanuts are unquestionably a classic pairing in China. But no one has explained why. Its alteration in baijiu flavor was studied using multiple sensory evaluation, as well as nontargeted proton-transfer reaction mass spectrometry coupled with GC × GC-MS. Multiple statistical analyses were used to discover the changes in the retronasal aroma and its contribution to baijiu flavor. It showed that the consumption of peanuts enhances the burst intensity of ester aroma (0.814-1.00) and Jiao aroma (0.889-0.963) but decreases the aftertaste of baijiu (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, it increases the release intensity and advances the burst time of baijiu retronasal aroma (p < 0.05), suppressing its aftertaste through the retention effect of the food matrix, the changes in oral processing, and cross-modal interactions. Hydrophobicity, polarity, and chemical characteristics are key factors of the uneven impact of accompanying food to aroma compounds. Esters, especially ethyl caprylate (2103 ± 927 to 51.9 ± 4.05) is most impacted by peanuts and contributes most to baijiu flavor changes. Pyrazines from peanut enhance the Qu-aroma, grain aroma, and Chen aroma in baijiu flavor. Therefore, we revealed the chemical nature of baijiu-peanut combination and help to optimize baijiu consumption experience.

Neurodegeneration, known as the progressive loss of neurons in terms of their structure and function, is the principal pathophysiological change found in the majority of brain-related disorders. Ageing has been considered the most well-established risk factor in most common neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). There is currently no effective treatment or cure for these diseases; the approved therapeutic options to date are only for palliative care. Ageing and neurodegenerative diseases are closely intertwined; reversing the aspects of brain ageing could theoretically mitigate age-related neurodegeneration. Ever since the regenerative properties of young blood on aged tissues came to light, substantial efforts have been focused on identifying and characterizing the circulating factors in the young and old systemic milieu that may attenuate or accentuate brain ageing and neurodegeneration. Later studies discovered the superiority of old plasma dilution in tissue rejuvenation, which is achieved through a molecular reset of the systemic proteome. These findings supported the use of therapeutic blood exchange for the treatment of degenerative diseases in older individuals. The first objective of this article is to explore the rejuvenating properties of blood-based therapies in the ageing brains and their therapeutic effects on AD. Then, we also look into the clinical applications, various limitations, and challenges associated with blood-based therapies for AD patients.

BACKGROUND: Muscle cramps are common among persons with cirrhosis and are associated with poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Treatment options are limited. We compared stretching or meditation in a randomized-controlled trial (RCT). PATIENTS: We enrolled 98 patients with a history of >4 muscle cramps in the prior month from 7/22-7/23. We randomized patients 1:1 to stretching versus meditation for 35 days. Our primary outcome was the change in cramp severity measured by the visual analogue scale for cramps (VAS-cramps, scaled 0-10). Secondary outcomes included a patient global impression of change (PGIC), change in sleep quality and global HRQOL measured using the EQ-5D and VAS-global HRQOL. RESULTS: Overall, 48% of patients had cirrhosis, 40% had diabetes, 16% the median age was 63, most were women (67%) and 81% were college educated. Both arms experienced a reduction in cramp severity-a median of 1.44 (.58-2.29) points for stretching and 1.97 (1.01-2.93) points for meditation. These changes were significant changes from baseline (p = .001 for stretching, p < .0001 for meditation) but these changes were equivalent between arms (p = .4). The PGIC was improved: 1.33 (1.02-1.65) for stretching, 1.05 (.70-1.41) for meditation, p-difference .2. Sleep was also improved for both. HRQOL did not change according to the Eq5D; according to the VAS, HRQOL rose for meditation by 6 (.1-11.8) points but not for stretching. More patients recommended stretching than meditation (79.2% vs. 55.3%, p = .02). CONCLUSION: In a randomized trial, stretching and meditation both reduced cramp severity and improved sleep quality and global impression of change. While patients preferred stretching, there was no difference in effect between arms.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of zoledronic acid for reducing the incidence of cage subsidence and enhancing interbody fusion rates following oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) surgery, particularly as the first reported evidence of the role of zoledronic acid combined with OLIF. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 108 elderly patients treated for degenerative lumbar diseases using OLIF combined with bilateral pedicle screw fixation from January 2018 to December 2021. Patients were divided into the zoledronic acid (ZOL) group (43 patients, 67 surgical segments) and the control group (65 patients, 86 surgical segments). A comparative analysis of the radiographic and clinical outcomes between the groups was performed, employing univariate and multivariate regression analyses to explore the relationships between cage subsidence and the independent variables. RESULTS: Radiographic outcomes, including anterior height, posterior height, disc height, coronal disc angle, foraminal height, and lumbar lordosis, were not significantly different between the two groups. Similarly, no statistically significant differences were noted in the back visual analog scale (VAS) scores and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores between the groups. However, at the 1-year follow-up, the leg VAS score was lower in the ZOL group than in the control group (P = 0.028). The ZOL group demonstrated a notably lower cage subsidence rate (20.9%) than did the control group (43.0%) (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the interbody fusion rate between the ZOL group (93.0%) and the control group (90.8%). Non-use of zoledronic acid emerged as an independent risk factor for cage subsidence (OR = 6.047, P = 0.003), along with lower bone mineral density, lower postoperative anterior height, and concave endplate morphology. The model exhibited robust discriminative performance, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.872. CONCLUSION: The administration of zoledronic acid mitigates the risk of cage subsidence following OLIF combined with bilateral pedicle screw fixation in elderly patients; however, it does not improve the interbody fusion rate.

Heavy metal ion pollution poses significant risks to human health and ecological systems, and its monitoring is important. A sensitive and accurate surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) detection assay for Hg2+ was developed using Au@Ag/COF substrates and Y-shaped DNA labeled with two Raman reporters. The Au@Ag NPs in the COF produced robust and uniform E-fields, improving their detection reproducibility. The Y-shaped DNA design increased sensitivity with a low detection limit of 5.0 × 10-16 M by bringing the Raman reporter closer to the substrate surface. Additionally, the use of two Raman reporters allowed for a ratiometric method, improving detection accuracy by detecting both "signal-off" and "signal-on" signals. This selective sensor exhibited excellent recovery in river water, tap water, and milk samples, showcasing its robust biosensing capability for the detection of Hg2+ and its potential for sensing other heavy-metal ions in food and environmental applications.

BACKGROUND: POI is a multifactorial disease due to lack of estrogen resulting in symptoms such as insomnia, osteoporosis, and voiding disorders. For most women, fertility is affected. Autoimmune diseases are chronic diseases caused by disorders of immune regulation that often harm the ovaries. Recent epidemiological studies have reported a correlation between autoimmune diseases (AIDs) and premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). This study aims to explore the causal relationship between AIDs and POI using bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR). The data regarded AIDs from the Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) Catalog and the IEU Open GWAS project. POI was obtained from the FinnGen Study. All data were extracted from European populations. We used bidirectional MR with inverse variance weighting (IVW) as the primary study method, supplemented by weighted median and MR Egger validation analyses. Our original data has been uploaded to Figshare, number and distribution of the DOI (DOI: 10.6084 / m9 Figshare. 25,525,585). Figshare is an open-access data storage and sharing platform designed to make it easy for researchers to store, manage, and share their research data, code, and other academic achievements. Our study showed that the liability to Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Myasthenia gravis (MG) affect POI risk. The reverse MR analysis supported the effect of POI on Crohn's disease (CD). The result of the IVW method was supported by the sensitivity MR analysis. The IVW results showed that the odds ratio (OR) value of SLE was 1.13 and MG was 0.83. In the reverse MR, the OR value of CD was 1.22. We used MR methods to look into the causal association between 13 different kinds of AIDs and POI. Our study took a novel approach to traditional observational studies by adhering to the MR principle, which states that gamete formation depends on random assortment independent of external variables and that genetic variations precede outcomes, reducing the risk of reverse causality. The study found a correlation between SLE, MG, CD, and POI. Patients with SLE should have their ovarian function checked regularly, while those with POI should be aware of the possibility of CD and pay attention to their CD screening. MG, as a protective factor, can reduce the risk of POI.

Background and aims: Guidelines recommend that patients with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) receive a high-protein diet (roughly 1 g/kg actual body weight). Concommitant sodium restriction, low health literacy, and food insecurity limit patients' ability to meet this goal. We aimed to determine the feasibility of home-delivered high-protein medically tailored meals (MTMs) for patients with a recent episode of overt HE. Methods: We enrolled patients with prior overt HE on active HE therapy in a 6-month trial of MTM. All received 21 home-delivered meals/week with protein snacks (mid-day and bedtime) for 12 weeks. Patients completed follow-up at week 24. The primary outcome was feasibility. Additional outcomes included change in protein and micronutrient intake (measured using 24 h dietary recalls performed by dieticians), cognitive function (Animal Naming Test [ANT]; EncephalApp Stroop), physical function (Liver Frailty Index [LFI]), and quality of life (Short Form-8 Health Survey [SF-8]). Healthcare utilization was also assessed. Results: Ten patients competed the study with >90% of MTM consumed. Protein intake rose from 74.6 ± 25.1 g at baseline to 93.8 ± 24.3 g on MTM (P = 0.04). Branched-chain amino acids also increased-valine 3.73 ± 1.26 g to 5.17 ± 1.28 g, isoleucine 3.32 ± 1.18 to 4.69 ± 1.55, leucine 5.83 ± 2.00 to 7.49 ± 2.07, all P < 0.001. The LFI score improved from 4.42 ± 0.32 to 3.96 ± 0.82 by the end of the MTM phase (P = 0.03). SF-8 quality-of-life scores improved from 55.5 ± 15.5 at baseline to 64.7 ± 18.3 after the MTM phase, to 64.4 ± 19.1 at the end of the study (P = 0.1). EncephalApp Stroop time improved from 227 ± 94 to 194 ± 58s by the end of the MTM phase (P = 0.08). ANT scores were similarly non-significantly improved. Conclusion: Home-delivered MTMs are feasible, increase protein consumption, and may improve patient wellbeing. A randomized trial is needed.

OBJECTIVE: Aggregating evidence highlights the strong genetic basis underpinning congenital heart disease (CHD). Here BMP4 was chosen as a prime candidate gene causative of human CHD predominantly because BMP4 was amply expressed in the embryonic hearts and knockout of Bmp4 in mice led to embryonic demise mainly from multiple cardiovascular developmental malformations. The aim of this retrospective investigation was to discover a novel BMP4 mutation underlying human CHD and explore its functional impact. METHODS: A sequencing examination of BMP4 was implemented in 212 index patients suffering from CHD and 236 unrelated non-CHD individuals as well as the family members available from the proband carrying a discovered BMP4 mutation. The impacts of the discovered CHD-causing mutation on the expression of NKX2-5 and TBX20 induced by BMP4 were measured by employing a dual-luciferase analysis system. RESULTS: A new heterozygous BMP4 mutation, NM_001202.6:c.318T>G;p.(Tyr106*), was found in a female proband affected with familial CHD. Genetic research of the mutation carrier's relatives unveiled that the truncating mutation was in co-segregation with CHD in the pedigree. The nonsense mutation was absent from 236 unrelated non-CHD control persons. Quantitative biologic measurement revealed that Tyr106*-mutant BMP4 failed to induce the expression of NKX2-5 and TBX20, two genes whose expression is lost in CHD. CONCLUSION: The current findings indicate BMP4 as a new gene predisposing to human CHD, allowing for improved prenatal genetic counseling along with personalized treatment of CHD patients.

Background: In China, dementia poses a significant public health challenge, exacerbated by an ageing population and lifestyle changes. This study assesses the temporal trends and disparities in the population-attributable fractions (PAFs) of modifiable risk factors (MRFs) for new-onset dementia from 2011 to 2018. Methods: We used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), covering 75,214 person-waves. We calculated PAFs for 12 MRFs identified by the Lancet Commission (including six early-to mid-life factors and six late-life factors). We also determined the individual weighted PAFs (IW-PAFs) for each risk factor. Subgroup analyses were conducted by sex, socio-economic status (SES), and geographic location. Findings: The overall PAF for dementia MRFs had a slight increase from 45.36% in 2011 to 52.46% in 2018, yet this change wasn't statistically significant. During 2011-2018, the most contributing modifiable risk was low education (average IW-PAF 11.3%), followed by depression, hypertension, smoking, and physical inactivity. Over the eight-year period, IW-PAFs for risk factors like low education, hypertension, hearing loss, smoking, and air pollution showed decreasing trends, while others increased, but none of these changes were statistically significant. Sex-specific analysis revealed higher IW-PAFs for traumatic brain injury (TBI), social isolation, and depression in women, and for alcohol and smoking in men. The decline in IW-PAF for men's hearing loss were significant. Lower-income individuals had higher overall MRF PAFs, largely due to later-life factors like depression. Early-life factors, such as TBI and low education, also contributed to SES disparities. Rural areas reported higher overall MRF PAFs, driven by factors like depression, low education, and hearing loss. The study also found that the gap in MRF PAFs across different SES groups or regions either remained constant or increased over the study period. Interpretation: The study reveals a slight but non-significant increase in dementia's MRF PAF in China, underscoring the persistent relevance of these risk factors. The findings highlight the need for targeted public health strategies, considering the demographic and regional differences, to effectively tackle and reduce dementia risk in China's diverse population. Cellular senescence, a hallmark of aging, plays an important role in age-related conditions among older adults. Targeting senescent cells and its phenotype may provide a promising strategy to delay the onset or progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this review article, we investigated efficacy and safety of nutrition senotherapy in AD, with a focus on the role of polyphenols as current and potential nutrition senotherapeutic agents, as well as relevant dietary patterns. Promising results with neuroprotective effects of senotherapeutic agents such as quercetin, resveratrol, Epigallocatechin-gallate, curcumin and fisetin were reported from preclinical studies. However, in-human trials remain limited, and findings were inconclusive. In future, nutrition senotherapeutic agents should be studied both individually and within dietary patterns, through the perspective of cellular senescence and AD. Further studies are warranted to investigate bioavailability, dosing regimen, long term effects of nutrition senotherapy and provide better understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Collaboration between researchers needs to be established, and methodological limitations of current studies should be addressed.

While multislice electron ptychography can provide thermal vibration limited resolution and structural information in 3D, it relies on properly selecting many intertwined acquisition and computational parameters. Here, we outline a methodology for selecting acquisition parameters to enable robust ptychographic reconstructions. We develop two physically informed metrics, areal oversampling and Ronchigram magnification, to describe the selection of these parameters in multislice ptychography. Through simulations, we comprehensively evaluate the validity of these two metrics over a broad range of conditions and show that they accurately guide reconstruction success. Further, we validate these conclusions with experimental ptychographic data and demonstrate close agreement between trends in simulated and experimental data. Using these metrics, we achieve experimental multislice reconstructions at a scan step of 2.1Å/px, enabling large field-of-view, data-efficient reconstructions. These experimental design principles enable the routine and robust use of multislice ptychography for 3D characterization of materials at the atomic scale.

Lipid-lowering drugs, especially statins, are extensively utilized in clinical settings for the prevention of hyperlipidemia. Nevertheless, prolonged usage of current lipid-lowering medications is associated with significant adverse reactions. Therefore, it is imperative to develop novel therapeutic agents for lipid-lowering therapy. In this study, a chenodeoxycholic acid and lactobionic acid double-modified polyethyleneimine (PDL) nanocomposite as a gene delivery vehicle for lipid-lowering therapy by targeting the liver, are synthesized. Results from the in vitro experiments demonstrate that PDL exhibits superior transfection efficiency compared to polyethyleneimine in alpha mouse liver 12 (AML12) cells and effectively carries plasmids. Moreover, PDL can be internalized by AML12 cells and rapidly escape lysosomal entrapment. Intravenous administration of cyanine5.5 (Cy5.5)-conjugated PDL nanocomposites reveals their preferential accumulation in the liver compared to polyethyleneimine counterparts. Systemic delivery of low-density lipoprotein receptor plasmid-loaded PDL nanocomposites into mice leads to reduced levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides (TC) in the bloodstream without any observed adverse effects on mouse health or well-being. Collectively, these findings suggest that low-density lipoprotein receptor plasmid-loaded PDL nanocomposites hold promise as potential therapeutics for lipid-lowering therapy.

BACKGROUND: The emergence of robotic surgical systems compensated for the technological shortcomings of laparoscopic approaches. However, whether robotic gastrectomy (RG) has better perioperative outcomes and survival than laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for gastric cancer is still unclear but increasingly drawing attention. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library as of January 20, 2024 and referenced list of eligible articles for all published studies comparing RG and LG for patients with gastric cancer, Data on study characteristics, individual characteristics, and outcome parameters were extracted. The quality of studies was assessed using the Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias 2 tool and the risk of bias in non-randomized studies of interventions tool. The main outcome measures were overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). RESULTS: We identified 3641 articles, of which 72 studies (30081 patients) were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with LG, RG was associated with higher OS [hazard ratio (HR)=0.89, 95% CI=0.83 to 0.96), lower rate of overall postoperative complications [odds ratio (OR)=0.77, 95% CI=0.71 to 0.84], longer operating time [mean difference (MD)=35.53, 95% CI=29.23 to 41.83], less estimated blood loss (MD=-37.45, 95% CI=-46.24 to -28.67), a higher number of retrieved lymph nodes (MD=1.88, 95% CI=0.77 to 3.00), faster postoperative recovery, and lower rate of conversion (OR=0.44, 95% CI=0.36 to 0.55). Mortality and DFS were not significantly different between the two groups. The subgroup of meta-analysis results also showed the advantages of robotic surgery over laparoscopic surgery in intracorporeal reconstruction, total gastrectomy, Ⅰ/Ⅱ stage, and BMI≥25, especially for patients with stage Ⅰ/Ⅱ, there is better overall survival and disease-free survival. CONCLUSION: Our findings point to robotic surgery having great benefits compared with laparoscopic surgery in gastric cancer. Our study may help inform decision-making in applying robotic surgical systems to clinical treatment.

Artificial moiré superlattices created by stacking 2D crystals have emerged as a powerful platform with unprecedented material-engineering capabilities. While moiré superlattices are reported to host a number of novel quantum states, their potential for spintronic applications remains largely unexplored. Here, the effective manipulation of spin-orbit torque (SOT) is demonstrated using moiré superlattices in ferromagnetic devices comprised of twisted WS2/WS2 homobilayer (t-WS2) and CoFe/Pt thin films by altering twisting angle (θ) and gate voltage. Notably, a substantial enhancement of up to 44.5% is observed in SOT conductivity at θ ≈ 8.3°. Furthermore, compared to the WS2 monolayer and untwisted WS2/WS2 bilayers, the moiré superlattices in t-WS2 enable a greater gate-voltage tunability of SOT conductivity. These results are related to the generation of the interfacial moiré magnetic field by the real-space Berry phase in moiré superlattices, which modulates the absorption of the spin-Hall current arising from Pt through the magnetic proximity effect. This study highlights the moiré physics as a new building block for designing enhanced spintronic devices.

MXene has garnered widespread recognition in the scientific community due to its remarkable properties, including excellent thermal stability, high conductivity, good hydrophilicity and dispersibility, easy processability, tunable surface properties, and admirable flexibility. MXenes have been categorized into different families based on the number of M and X layers in Mn+1Xn, such as M2X, M3X2, M4X3, and, recently, M5X4. Among these families, M2X and M3X2, particularly Ti3C2, have been greatly explored while limited studies have been given to M5X4 MXene synthesis. Meanwhile, studies on the M4X3 MXene family have developed recently, hence, demanding a compilation of evaluated studies. Herein, this review provides a systematic overview of the latest advancements in M4X3 MXenes, focusing on their properties and applications in energy storage devices. The objective of this review is to provide guidance to researchers on fostering M4X3 MXene-based nanomaterials, not only for energy storage devices but also for broader applications.

BACKGROUND: Innate/adaptive immunity is the key to anti-tumor therapy. However, its causal relationship to Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer remains unclear. METHODS: Immunity genes were extracted from the MSigDB database. The Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary data of GI cancer were integrated with expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) and DNA methylation quantitative trait loci (mQTL) associated with genes. Summary-data-based Mendelian randomization (SMR) and co-localization analysis were used to reveal causal relationships between genes and GI cancer. Two-sample MR analysis was used for sensitivity analysis. Single cell analysis clarified the enrichment of genes. RESULTS: Three-step SMR analysis showed that a putative mechanism, cg17294865 CpG site regulating HLA-DRA expression was negatively associated with gastric cancer risk. HLA-DRA was significantly differentially expressed in monocyte/macrophage and myeloid cells in gastric cancer. CONCLUSION: This study provides evidence that upregulating the expression level of HLA-DRA can reduce the risk of gastric cancer.
