The authors remind the facial morphogenesis and the factors affecting it. They describe nasal respiration, its importance and consequences on morphogenetic levels, as well as the influence of the lips. In the context of the clinical collaboration between ENT and DFO, they review the different stages of ENT examination, explaining the importance of each one. Statistics of the treated cases confirm all the previous. Every possible treatment, medical and surgical as well as logopedic or physiotherapeutic are considered.

The etiology of recurrent bacterial and viral infections of the upper airways is reviewed. Other causes of infection due to day care, passive smoking and gastroesophageal reflux are reported. A list of immunological deficiencies is presented. Some local, general and preventive treatment possibilities are proposed.

The authors describe anatomy, typologies, evolution of the tongue during growth. They pay attention at the modeling role of the lingual position and functions upon maxillofacial architecture. The bi-labial contact is the main factor for general functional equilibrium.

[Antimicrobial and surgical treatment of tonsils. Bacteriological and histological data collected on 44 tonsillectomized children]. / Traitement antimicrobien et chirurgical des amygdales. Données bactériologiques et histologiques recueillies chez 44 enfants amygdalectomisés.

The tonsils of 44 operated children were submitted to bacteriological and histological examination. 22 children were given an oral penicillin during 5 days before tonsilectomy. Histological data and bacteriological cultures of pharyngeal exsudate and tonsillar material were very similar in the two groups of treated and non treated patients. These data suggest that, when preventive penicillinic treatment is given, it is worthy to consider the dose, the lasting and the route of administration of the prophylactic antibiotic therapy. Its unreliable activity, and the danger of bacteriemy at the moment of the operation plead for an adequate per-operative antibiotherapy.
