RESUMO

This study investigated environmental distribution and human exposure of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their derivatives in one Chinese petroleum refinery facility. It was found that, following with high concentrations of 16 EPA PAHs (∑Parent-PAHs) in smelting subarea of studied petroleum refinery facility, total derivatives of PAHs [named as XPAHs, including nitro PAHs (NPAHs), chlorinated PAHs (Cl-PAHs), and brominated PAHs (Br-PAHs)] in gas (mean= 1.57 × 104 ng/m3), total suspended particulate (TSP) (mean= 4.33 × 103 ng/m3) and soil (mean= 4.37 × 103 ng/g) in this subarea had 1.76-6.19 times higher levels than those from other subareas of this facility, surrounding residential areas and reference areas, indicating that petroleum refining processes would lead apparent derivation of PAHs. Especially, compared with those in residential and reference areas, gas samples in the petrochemical areas had higher ∑NPAH/∑PAHs (mean=2.18), but lower ∑Cl-PAH/∑PAHs (mean=1.43 × 10-1) and ∑Br-PAH/∑PAHs ratios (mean=7.49 × 10-2), indicating the richer nitrification of PAHs than chlorination during petrochemical process. The occupational exposure to PAHs and XPAHs in this petroleum refinery facility were 24-343 times higher than non-occupational exposure, and the ILCR (1.04 × 10-4) for petrochemical workers was considered to be potential high risk. Furthermore, one expanded high-resolution screening through GC Orbitrap/MS was performed for soils from petrochemical area, and another 35 PAHs were found, including alkyl-PAHs, phenyl-PAHs and other species, indicating that profiles and risks of PAHs analogs in petrochemical areas deserve further expanded investigation.

RESUMO

Rapid economic development has led to oil pollution and energy shortage. Membrane separation has attracted much attention due to its simplicity and efficiency in oil-water-separation. The development of membrane materials with enhanced separation properties is essential to improve the separation-efficiency. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are expected to replace conventional engines due to their high-power-conversion rates and other favorable properties. Anhydrous-proton-conducting materials are vital components of PEMFCs. However, developing stable proton-conducting materials that exhibit high conductivity at varying temperatures remains challenging. Herein, two covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with long-side-chains are synthesized, and their corresponding COF@SSN membranes. Both membranes can effectively separate oil-water mixtures and water-in-oil emulsions. The TFPT-AF membrane achieves a maximum oil-flux of 6.05 × 105 g h-1 m-2 with an oil-water separation efficiency of above 99%, which is almost unchanged after 20 consecutive uses. COF@H3PO4 doped with different ratios of H3PO4 is prepared, the results show that the perfluorocarbon-chain system has  excellent anhydrous proton conductivity , achieving an ultra-high proton-conductivity of 3.98 × 10-1 S cm-1 at 125 °C. This study lays the foundation for tailor-made-functionalization of COF through pre-engineering and surface-modification, highlighting the great potential of COFs for oil-water separation and anhydrous-proton-conductivity.

RESUMO

AlGaN-based ultraviolet-C (UV-C) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) face challenges related to their extremely low external quantum efficiency, which is predominantly attributed to the remarkably inadequate transverse magnetic (TM) light extraction efficiency (LEE). In this study, we employ angle-resolved cathodoluminescence (ARCL) spectroscopy to assess the optical polarization of (0001)-oriented AlGaN multiple quantum well (MQW) structures in UV-C LEDs, in conjunction with a focused ion beam and scanning electron microscopy (FIB/SEM) system to etch samples with various inclination angles (θ) of sidewall. This technique effectively distinguishes the spatial distribution of TM- and transverse electric (TE)-polarized photons contributing to the luminescence of the MQW structure. CL spectroscopy confirms that UV-C LEDs with a θ of 35° exhibit the highest CL signal compared to samples with other θ. Furthermore, we establish a model using finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation to validate the mechanism of the outcomes. The complementary contribution of TM and TE photons at different specific angles are distinguished by ARCL and confirmed by simulation. At angles near the sidewall, the CL is dominated by the TM photons, which mainly contribute to the increased LEE and the decreased degree of polarization (DOP) to make the spatial distribution of CL more uniform. Additionally, this method allows us to analyze the polarization of light without the need for polarizers, enabling the differentiation of TE and TM modes. This distinction provides flexibility for selecting different emission mode based on various application requirements. The presented approach not only opens up new opportunities for enhanced UV-C light extraction but also provides valuable insights for future endeavors in device fabrication and epitaxial film growth.

RESUMO

The widespread presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in various environmental matrices and their adverse health effects have gained worldwide attention. Therefore, numerous studies have focused on human exposure to PFAS through different pathways, such as fish and drinking water, and little attention has been paid to milk consumption. This study aimed to explore the transfer of PFAS by investigating the occurrence of PFAS in cow feed, drinking water, and raw milk from 20 regions of China and to assess the risk of human exposure to PFAS from raw milk. In total, 13, 15, and 7 PFAS were detected in cow feed, drinking water, and raw milk with total concentrations (∑PFAS) of 5.59 ± 2.91 ng/g (mean ± standard deviation), 11.91 ± 23.12 ng/L, and 0.15 ± 0.13 ng/mL, respectively. Perfluoropentanoic acid (PFPeA) was dominant with a concentration of 2.28 ± 1.75 ng/g, approximately 40.7 % of ∑PFAS in feed. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) were the dominant compounds found in drinking water at 4.80 ± 14.37 and 3.01 ± 6.06 ng/L, respectively. Additionally, PFOA (0.08 ± 0.09 ng/mL) was the most significant compound in raw milk, contributing 51.5 % of ∑PFAS. Moreover, the results of the carry-over rate (COR) were as follows: perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS, 29.58 %) > PFOA (15.78 %) > perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS, 9.45 %). According to the reference dose (RfD) established by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in 2018, there is a potential toxicological hazard of PFOA exposure for preschool children through milk consumption. Notably, the health risk from PFOS for 1-year-old children in Central China exceeded that observed for humans in other regions and age groups. Our results showed that PFOS and PFOA were more likely to accumulate in cows and to be constantly transferred to milk, thus increasing the human health risk, especially in children.

RESUMO

The concerns about the fate of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the atmosphere are continuously growing. In this study, size-fractionated particles, gas, and rainwater samples were simultaneously collected in Shijiazhuang, China, to investigate the multiphase distribution of PFAS in the atmosphere. Perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) dominated the total concentration of PFAS in atmospheric media. A strong positive relationship (0.79 < R2 < 0.99) was observed between the concentration of PFCAs and organic matter fraction (fOM) in different particle size fractions, while no such relationship for perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) and fOM, suggesting fOM may be an important factor influencing the size-dependent distribution of PFCAs. Temperature played a key role in the gas-particle partitioning of PFAS, while it did not significantly affect their particle-size-dependent distribution. The associative concentration fluctuation of particle and particle-bound PFAS during precipitation suggested that precipitation scavenging was an important mechanism for the removal of PFAS from the atmosphere. Furthermore, temporary increases in atmospheric PFAS concentrations were observed during the precipitation. Fugacity ratios of PFAS in rainwater and gas phase (log fR/fG ranged between 2.0 and 6.6) indicated a strong trend for PFAS to diffuse from the rainwater to the gas phase during the precipitation, which may explain that the concentration of PFAS in the gas phase continued to increase even at the end of the precipitation.

RESUMO

Understanding the structure of non-metallic heteroatom-doped carbon catalysts and the subsequent degradation of new pollutants is crucial for designing more efficient carbon catalysts. Environmentally friendly in situ N-doped biochar catalysts were prepared for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and sulfadiazine (SDZ) degradation. The acid washing process and calcination temperature of catalyst increased π-π* shake up, graphitic N percentage, specific surface area and defects, promoting the transformation of pollutant degradation mechanism from radical pathway to non-radical pathway. 100 % of the SDZ with the initial concentration of 10 mg/L was quickly degraded within 60 min using 0.2 g/L catalysts and 0.5 mM PMS. Excellent catalytic performance was attributed to singlet oxygen and electron transfer-dominated non-radical pathways. The four potential degradation pathways of SDZ were proposed, and toxicity predication indicated that overall biotoxicity of the intermediates during SDZ degradation was decreased. This research deepens our understanding of the mechanisms of non-radical pathways and guides the synthesis of carbon-based catalysts.

RESUMO

Following the closure of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) production to comply with the Stockholm Convention regulations or restrictions, manufacturers have shifted to developing short-chain alternatives like perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS). However, limited research has been conducted to evaluate the impact of this transition on the surrounding environment. This study focused on the spatial distribution, source, and fate of 18 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the surrounding environment of the closure and transformation of two PFAS manufacturing plants in Fujian, China. The total concentrations of PFAS in surface water, sediment, and fish were within the range of 48.9-72,400 ng/L, 0.930-57.6 ng/g dw, and 3.33-1245 ng/g dw, respectively. The predominant compounds were PFBS, PFOS, and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) among the three matrices. Principal component analysis highlighted significant differences in PFAS profiles across different regions of the Futun River, suggesting diverse sources of PFAS. Source apportionment indicated that despite being closed or converted for almost three years, the two factories still significantly impacted the surrounding environment. The shutdown factory mainly released PFAS characterized by perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids. In contrast, the PFAS were released from conversion plant with the fingerprint being PFBS and perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids. The conversion of the factories has resulted in the coexistence of long-chain and short-chain PFAS, which has complicated the composition of PFAS in the environment. As sewage treatment plant could not effectively remove PFBS and perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) in wastewater, and due to their strong migration ability, these chemicals had a wider impact range, increasing the difficulty of environmental restoration and management. Risk assessment showed that PFAS downstream of the two factories posed high or moderate ecological risks. Specifically, PFBS, PFOS, and PFOA displayed the highest risk quotients and should be paid further attention.

RESUMO

Phenylmethylsiloxanes, as modified products of dimethylsiloxanes, have been used in personal care products (PCPs) and household appliances, with indoor dust serving as one potential reservoir due to their particle-binding properties. This study measured six isomers of two phenylmethylsiloxanes (P3 and P4) in PCPs (99 %) intakes of phenylmethylsiloxanes for adults, while dust ingestion/adsorption (0.19 ng/d) may play important roles for toddlers/infants with little usage of phenylmethylsiloxanes-containing PCPs. Additionally, total daily intakes of PhMeSi(OH)2 (0.30-0.84 ng/d) via ingestion and dermal absorption of dust were higher than P3 (0.06-0.31 ng/d) and P4 (0.02-0.09 ng/d), suggesting exposure risk of degradation product of phenylmethylsiloxanes deserving attention.

RESUMO

Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are a category of broadly used antibiotics. Development of an effective and sensitive approach for determination of trace FQs in environmental and food samples is still challenging. Herein, the hydroxyl-containing triazine-based conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs-OH) was constructed and served as SPE absorbent for the efficient enrichment of FQs. Based on DFT simulations, the excellent enrichment capacity between CMPs-OH and FQs was contributed by hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions. In combination with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, the proposed approach exhibited a wide linear range (0.2-400 ng L-1), low detection limits (0.05-0.15 ng L-1), and good intraday and interday precisions under optimal conditions. In addition, the established method was effectively utilized for the determination of FQs in fourteen samples with recoveries between 82.6 % and 109.2 %. This work provided a feasible sample pretreatment method for monitoring FQs in environmental and food matrices.

RESUMO

Glial activation and dysregulation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)/adenosine are involved in the neuropathology of several neuropsychiatric illnesses. The ventral hippocampus (vHPC) has attracted considerable attention in relation to its role in emotional regulation. However, it is not yet clear how vHPC glia and their derived adenosine regulate the anxiodepressive-like consequences of chronic pain. Here, we report that chronic cheek pain elevates vHPC extracellular ATP/adenosine in a mouse model resembling trigeminal neuralgia (rTN), which mediates pain-related anxiodepression, through a mechanism that involves synergistic effects of astrocytes and microglia. We found that rTN resulted in robust activation of astrocytes and microglia in the CA1 area of the vHPC (vCA1). Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of astrocytes and connexin 43, a hemichannel mainly distributed in astrocytes, completely attenuated rTN-induced extracellular ATP/adenosine elevation and anxiodepressive-like behaviors. Moreover, inhibiting microglia and CD39, an enzyme primarily expressed in microglia that degrades ATP into adenosine, significantly suppressed the increase in extracellular adenosine and anxiodepressive-like behaviors. Blockade of the adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) alleviated rTN-induced anxiodepressive-like behaviors. Furthermore, interleukin (IL)-17A, a pro-inflammatory cytokine probably released by activated microglia, markedly increased intracellular calcium in vCA1 astrocytes and triggered ATP/adenosine release. The astrocytic metabolic inhibitor fluorocitrate and the CD39 inhibitor ARL 67156, attenuated IL-17A-induced increases in extracellular ATP and adenosine, respectively. In addition, astrocytes, microglia, CD39, and A2AR inhibitors all reversed rTN-induced hyperexcitability of pyramidal neurons in the vCA1. Taken together, these findings suggest that activation of astrocytes and microglia in the vCA1 increases extracellular adenosine, which leads to pain-related anxiodepression via A2AR activation. Approaches targeting astrocytes, microglia, and adenosine signaling may serve as novel therapies for pain-related anxiety and depression.

RESUMO

Anxiety and depression are frequently observed in patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia (TN), but neural circuits and mechanisms underlying this association are poorly understood. Here, we identified a dedicated neural circuit from the ventral hippocampus (vHPC) to the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) that mediates TN-related anxiodepression. We found that TN caused an increase in excitatory synaptic transmission from vHPCCaMK2A neurons to mPFC inhibitory neurons marked by the expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH). Activation of CRH+ neurons subsequently led to feed-forward inhibition of layer V pyramidal neurons in the mPFC via activation of the CRH receptor 1 (CRHR1). Inhibition of the vHPCCaMK2A-mPFCCRH circuit ameliorated TN-induced anxiodepression, whereas activating this pathway sufficiently produced anxiodepressive-like behaviors. Thus, our studies identified a neural pathway driving pain-related anxiodepression and a molecular target for treating pain-related psychiatric disorders.

RESUMO

This study monitored 20 organophosphate esters (OPEs) in water and sediment from three typical mariculture bases (Yunxi Marine Ranching (YX), Hangzhou Bay (HZB), and Zhelin Bay (ZLB)) and Meiliang Bay (MLB) of Taihu Lake in China, focusing on the spatial distribution and sources of OPEs. Moreover, the occurrence and risk of OPEs in fishes from ZLB were evaluated. The ∑OPE concentrations in waters followed the order MLB (591 ng/L) > YX (102 ng/L) > HZB (70.0 ng/L) > ZLB (37.4 ng/L), with tri(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TCIPP), triethyl phosphate (TEP), and tri(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) being the dominant OPEs. Significantly higher ∑OPE concentrations were found in sediment in MLB compared to the other three areas with similar levels. The decreasing concentrations of OPEs from nearshore to offshore areas in HZB and MLB indicated that terrigenous input is the main source of OPEs. The even distribution of OPEs in YX and ZLB combined with PCA analysis suggested ship traffic or aquaculture activities are also potential sources. The ∑OPE concentrations in fishes ranged from 0.551-2.45 ng/g wet weight, with TCIPP, tri-phenyl phosphate (TPHP), and TCEP being the main OPEs. Hydrophobicity was a key factor affecting the sediment-water distribution coefficients and the bioaccumulation factors of OPEs. The human exposure to OPEs through consumption of fishes from ZLB had a low health risk.

RESUMO

The effective and affordable separation of oil and water, a crucial process in the safe handling of environmental disasters such as crude oil spills and recovery of valuable resources, is a highly sought-after yet challenging task. Herein, superhydrophobic PU sponge was fabricated for the fast and cost-effective adsorptive separation of oil and different organic solvents from water. Octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS)-functionalized Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell microspheres were dip-coated on the surface of porous materials via a dip-coating process, thereby endowing them with superhydrophobicity. Owing to the hydrophobic interaction between OTS molecules and oil and increased capillary force in the micropores, the resulting superhydrophobic sponge served as a selective oil-sorbent scaffold for absorbing oil from oil-water mixtures, including oil-water suspensions and emulsions. Remarkably, after the recovery of the adsorbed oil via mechanical extrusion, these superhydrophobic materials could be reused multiple times and maintain their oil-water separation efficacy even after 10 oil-water separation cycles.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep disorders and risk of infertility. METHOD: Three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) were searched form their inception to April 30, 2023. Information of study design, control group and experimental group, number of participants, and study outcomes was extracted. The quality of the studies was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS scale) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ scale). Narrative synthesis and meta-analysis were used to analyze these studies. RESULT: Eight cohort, cross-sectional, and case-control studies were considered. The reviewed studies were high-quality. Pooled analysis showed that the risk of infertility was 1.43-fold higher in patients with sleep disturbance (HR = 1.43, 95% CI, 0.97-2.11, z = 1.79), but this was not statistically different; the risk was 1.58-fold higher in patients with OSA compared to those without OSA (HR = 1.58, 95%, CI, 0.99-2.52, z = 1.91), but this was not statistically significant. Wake-up time is also associated with infertility (OR = 1.14; 95%CI = 1.01-1.28; P = 0.037). For every hour they stay awake beyond 8:00 AM, participants had a 41% higher risk of infertility (P = 0.004). The early-to-bed/late-to-rise (EL), LE, and LL groups had a higher risk of infertility than the EE group. CONCLUSION: The present study did not find an association between sleep disorders and the risk of infertility. Therefore, more observational studies are warranted to explore the association between sleep disorders and the risk of infertility.

RESUMO

Degradation of organic pollutants through O2 activation catalyzed by transitional metals is challenging without addition of external chemicals and input of energy. We prepare a novel Fe based catalyst by compositing carbon, iron phosphide (FexP), iron carbide (FexC), Fe0 and Cu NPs, which can continuously activate O2 to produce high amount of 1O2,·O2- and·OH radicals in a wide pH range. DFT calculation discloses that O2 molecules are dissociated into *O or exist as O-O in various configurations. The Fe-O2, Cu-O2 and FeP-O2 surfaces can react with H2O molecules to generate *OOH, *OH and/or OH-. The sorbed-O2 intermediates on FexC surface might be released as 1O2 or·O2-. The oxidative O2-sorbed surfaces and in-situ produced oxygen reactive species contribute to the efficient and pH-indenpendent degradation of organic pollutants. Cu NPs accelerate Fe2+/Fe3+ cycles and offer impetus to initiate O2 activation due to the potential difference between Fe and Cu. The recycling test and XPS results confirm that the mutual electron transferring among carbon, FexC, FexP, Fe and Cu maintains reactivity and stability of the catalysts.

RESUMO

An environmental risk factor for schizophrenia (SZ) is maternal infection, which exerts longstanding effects on the neurodevelopment of offspring. Accumulating evidence suggests that synaptic disturbances may contribute to the pathology of the disease, but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular B (EphB) receptor signaling plays an important role in synaptic plasticity by regulating the formation and maturation of dendritic spines and regulating excitatory neurotransmission. We examined whether EphB receptors and downstream associated proteins are susceptible to environmental risk factors implicated in the etiology of synaptic disturbances in SZ. Using an established rodent model, which closely imitates the characteristics of SZ, we observed the behavioral performance and synaptic structure of male offspring in adolescence and early adulthood. We then analyzed the expression of EphB receptors and associated proteins in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. Maternal immune activation offspring showed significantly progressive cognitive impairment and pre-pulse inhibition deficits together with an increase in the expression of EphB2 receptors and NMDA receptor subunits. We also found changes in EphB receptor downstream signaling, in particular, a decrease in phospho-cofilin levels which may explain the reduced dendritic spine density. Besides, we found that the AMPA glutamate, another glutamate ionic receptor associated with cofilin, decreased significantly in maternal immune activation offspring. Thus, alterations in EphB signaling induced by immune activation during pregnancy may underlie disruptions in synaptic plasticity and function in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus associated with behavioral and cognitive impairment. These findings may provide insight into the mechanisms underlying SZ.

RESUMO

Determination of microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs), especially small MPs and NPs (<150 µm), in solid environmental matrices is a challenging task due to the formation of stable aggregates between MNPs and natural colloids. Herein, a novel method for extracting small MPs and NPs embedded in soils/sediments/sludges has been developed by combining tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) digestion with dichloromethane (DCM) dissolution. The solid samples were digested with TMAH, and the collected precipitate was washed with anhydrous ethanol to eliminate the natural organic matter. Then, the MNPs in precipitate were extracted by dissolving in DCM under ultrasonic conditions. Under the optimized digestion and extraction conditions, the factors including sizes and concentrations of MNPs showed insignificant effects on the extraction process. The feasibility of this sample preparation method was verified by the satisfactory spiked recoveries (79.6-91.4%) of polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(methyl methacrylate), polyvinyl chloride, and polyethylene terephthalate MNPs in soil/sediment/sludge samples. The proposed sample preparation method was coupled with pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to determine trace small MPs and NPs with a relatively low detection limit of 2.3-29.2 µg/g. Notably, commonly used MNPs were successfully detected at levels of 4.6-51.4 µg/g in 6 soil/sediment/sludge samples. This proposed method is promising for evaluating small solid-embedded MNP pollution.

RESUMO

A ternary micro-electrolysis system consisting of carbon-coated metallic iron with Cu nanoparticles (Fe0/C@Cu0) was synthesized for the degradation of sulfathiazole (STZ). Fe0/C@Cu0 catalysts exhibited excellent reusability and stability owing to the inner tailored Fe0 with persistent activity. The connection between Fe and Cu elements in the Fe0/C-3@Cu0 catalyst prepared with iron citrate as iron source exhibited a tighter contact than the catalysts prepared with FeSO4·7H2O and iron(II) oxalate as iron sources. Especially, unique core-shell structure of Fe0/C-3@Cu0 catalyst is more conducive to promoting the degradation of STZ. A two-stage reaction with rapidly degradation followed by gradual degradation was revealed. The mechanism of STZ degradation could be explained by the synergistic effects of Fe0/C@Cu0. Carbon layer with remarkable conductivity allowed electrons from Fe0 transferred freely to the Cu0. The electron-rich Cu0 releases electrons, facilitating the degradation of STZ. Furthermore, the high potential difference between cathode (C and Cu0) and anode (Fe0) accelerate the corrosion of Fe0. Importantly, Fe0/C@Cu0 catalysts exhibited excellent catalytic performance for sulfathiazole degradation in landfill leachate effluent. Results presented provide a new strategy for treatment of chemical wastes.

RESUMO

Rapid and sensitive quantification of peptides plays an important role in clinical diagnosis. Fluorescence assay is one of the most promising peptide detection tools, but it relies on intrinsic fluorescence or additional derivatization, resulting in poor versatility. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have shown a good application prospect in the field of fluorescence detection, but their application scope is limited to heavy metal ions and some small polar organic molecules. Herein, we report the application of COFs nanosheet for fluorescence detection of peptides. Fluorescent sp2 acrylonitrile-linked COFs nanosheets (TTAN-CON) were prepared by water-assisted ultrasonic exfoliation which performed with excellent fluorescence properties with Stokes shifts of 146 nm and fluorescence quantum yield of up to 24.45%. Compared to the bulk fluorescent COFs, exfoliated CONs films performed with better stability of fluorescence signal in solution. We found the fluorescence of TTAN-CON can be effectively quenched by hydrophobic peptides at a very rapid rate (less than 5 min per sample). TTAN-CON presented good sensitivity and selectivity for hydrophobic peptides detection via the static and dynamic joint quenching mechanism. TTAN-CON was further used to detect NLLGLIEAK and ProGRP31-98, two target peptide fragments of lung cancer biomarker ProGRP. The fluorescence intensities of TTAN-CON were negative linearly correlated with the amounts of hydrophobic NLLGLIEAK over the range of 5-1000 ng/mL with the correlation coefficients over 0.99, and the limit of detection was 1.67 ng/mL, displaying higher sensitivity and convenience than traditional optical methods. What's more, the quantification of ProGRP31-98 was achieved by the quantification of hydrophobic peptides in its enzyme hydrolysis products. We anticipate COFs nanosheets to be a universal fluorescence detection work-box for peptides biomarkers with clinical significance.
