RESUMO

Natural oxidation is an undesirable process suffered by gel dosimetry systems as it changes the values and spatial distribution of absorbed doses. Natural oxidation of Fricke xylenol gel (FXG) dosimeter was inferred from optical absorbance values measured for the first time using the photoacoustic technique. An acoustic detector measures the intensity of the light transmitted by the FXG, which is directly proportional to the ionizing radiation dose absorbed by the samples. In this work, we demonstrated the behavior, the rates, and the dependence of natural oxidation on storage temperature, time, and active components through measurements by photoacoustic technique.

RESUMO

Despite the significant evolution of mammaplasty techniques, some undesirable changes on the operated breasts result in evident dissatisfaction for both patients and doctors. The main reason is that the breast has a tendency to resume its previous shape months after the operation. In pursuit of a procedure that would avoid this untoward morphologic evolution, we set to work on the development of a new approach of broad fixation to maintain the breast shape and to avoid ptosis by using the inferior third of the pectoralis major muscle. The authors report their experience with 46 consecutive cases of breast reduction and mastopexy operated between March 1994 and November 1995, studying the surgical procedure employed, its advantages, limitations, and possible complications.

RESUMO

Due to the late postoperative permanent ptosis recurrence in breast reduction and/or mastopexy, the senior author has introduced a new surgical technique using the inferior third of the pectoralis major muscle which constructed and fashioned according to the anatomo-histological variations. Fixation of this muscle flap to the inferior pole of the mammary gland will avoid any future breast ptosis. Personal experience with 51 consecutive cases of breast reduction and/or mastopexy operated between March 1994 and March 1996 is reported. The procedure is illustrated in details; the main indications, late results, limitations and possible early and late complications are studied and discussed.

RESUMO

The unfavorable breast contours resulting from a reductive mastoplasty and mastopexy influenced the authors into developing a technique that provided reduction of the breast base and axillary pole, convenient medial position of the lateral pole, and substantial conification of the breast tissue to help project the areolomamillary complex to the apex of that cone. From March 1987 to December 1994, 205 operations were performed with this technique, which consists of the construction of three glandular flaps and maximum preservation of the skin covering. The results obtained proved to be very satisfactory and more lasting.

RESUMO

The unfavorable breast contours resulting from a reductive mammaplasty or a mastopexy influenced the authors into developing a technique that provided reduction of the breast base and axillary pole, convenient medial position of the lateral pole and substantial conification of the breast tissue to help project the areolomamillary complex to the apex of that cone. From March 1987 to May 1996 two hundred and seventeen operations were performed with this technique that consists of construction of three glandular flaps and maximum preservation of the skin covering. The results obtained showed to be very satisfactory and more lasting.

RESUMO

The authors report on a survey of 73 patients who underwent rhinoplasty, and foccus on the importance of treating septal deviations and esthetic rhinoplasty deformities jointly, from March 1985 to July 1989. 28 of the 73 patients presented various degrees of nose obstruction and were treated by different procedures, according to each particualr case. Attention is called to the importance of a detailed preoperative study, including radiological evaluation, contrast facial profile study, rhinoscopy, photographs and a rhinomanometric study in those patients with a dynamic alteration of the nasal airflow. These 28 patients showed a variable degree of nose obstruction due to septal deviations, nasal bone deviations and/or hypertrophy of the turbinates associated or not to allergic alterations. A precise evaluation provided data that defined the anatomical alterations of the various types of obstruction, allowing for the best surgical option in each case. Lastly, the authors stress the importance of an anatomical and functional knowledge of the nose in order to perform these operations, as well as the use of adequate material in the surgical procedures. A single session operation allows for correction of nose deformities and obstructions, the postoperative evaluation of the obstruction being in part greatly subjective

RESUMO

An evaluation of the senior author's mentoplasty technique by use of inorganic silicone and acrylic implants is presented, encompassing 16 years of experience. The evaluation was chiefly concerned with the silicone implant and long-term followup observations of its survival and some of its extrusions and complications.

RESUMO

Through the analysis of 300 cases of prominent ears operated by Pitanguy's technique with a follow-up of 1-15 years we observed the preservation of the aesthetic aspect as well as the cephaloauricular angle. We call attention to its easy performance and almost no incidence of early or late complications.

RESUMO

We report on the histologic and anatomopathologic aspects of cutaneous hemangiomas, stressing the involutive and noninvolutive aspects of these malformations. We analyze its clinical evolution, approaching the propedeutic and therapeutic methods, and present a detailed commentary on the conservative methodology of a series of 473 consecutive patients, encompassing a follow-up of 1 to 18 years.
