RESUMO

We describe and illustrate a new species of Chaceus Pretzmann, 1965, from the Regional Natural Park of the Serranía de Perijá, La Guajira Department, Colombia. This increases the number of Chaceus species to ten, three of them with records only from Venezuela. The species of this genus are distributed in the Sierra de Santa Marta of Colombia and the Serranía de Perijá of Colombia and Venezuela. We distinguished the new species from its congeners mainly by the third maxilliped, with an exopod that is 0.60-0.62 the length of ischium, and by the morphology of the first male gonopod, particularly by the shapes of the mesial, marginal, and lateral processes. We include the distribution of the Chaceus species here and a key for the identification of the species based on the morphology of the first male gonopod.

RESUMO

A new species of Phallangothelphusa Pretzmann, 1965, is described from the foothills of the Serranía de San Lucas, Antioquia Department, Colombia. The number of the species increases to six: P. dispar (Zimmer, 1912), P. magdalenensis Campos, 1998, P. juansei Campos, 2010, P. martensis Cardona Campos, 2012, P. tangerina Campos, Lasso Arias, 2019, and P. zenuorum n. sp. The new species is distinguished from its congeners mainly by the length of the exopod of the third maxilliped and by the morphology of the first and second male gonopods, particularly on the first male gonopod the outline of apex, the shapes of the mesial and lateral processes, and on the second one the shape of the distal endopod. An updated key for the identification of the species of Phallangothelphusa is given.

RESUMO

A new species of Strengeriana Pretzmann, 1971, is described from the El Jardín Natural Reserve, Quindío Department, Colombia, on the western slope of the Central Andes. The genus is endemic to Colombia and is distributed in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and the Western and Central Andes, at elevations ranging from 700 to 2400 m. With the addition of the new species, Strengeriana now includes 17 species. Strengeriana quindiensis n. sp. is distinguished from its congeners mainly by the exopod of the third maxilliped being 0.92 times the length of the ischium and by the morphology of the first male gonopod, particularly the shapes of the mesial and lateral processes.

RESUMO

A new species of Phallangothelphusa Pretzmann, 1965, is described from the foothills of the Serranía Yariguíes, Santander Department, Magdalena river basin, Colombia. The number of the species increases to five: P. dispar (Zimmer, 1912), P. magdalenensis Campos, 1998, P. juansei Campos, 2010, P. martensis Cardona Campos, 2012, and P. tangerina n. sp. The new species is distinguished from its congeners mainly by the morphology of the first male gonopod, particularly by the shapes of the mesial and lateral processes, and the surface and outline form of the apex.

RESUMO

Two new species of freshwater crabs of the pseudothelphusid genus Neostrengeria Pretzmann, 1965, N. fernandezi n. sp., and N. lassoi n. sp., are described. The genus is endemic to the eastern Andes of Colombia. Neostrengeria fernandezi was collected in Las Cacas cave, Pauna, Boyacá Department and N. lassoi in a stream within Los Aviones cave, La Guadalupe, Santander Department, within the cave as well as in a waterfall outside the cave. With the addition of N. fernandezi and N. lassoi the total number of species of the genus Neostrengeria increases to 27. Like all others species of Neostrengeria, the new species are distinguished primarily by the morphology of the first male gonopod, particularly by the form of lateral, accessory and mesial lobes, outline of the apex, and the mesio-caudal projection of the spermatic channel.

RESUMO

A new genus of pseudothelphusid crab, Colombiathelphusa gen. nov., is established to include Colombiathelphusa culmarcuata n. sp., from the Chocó Department, western Colombia. The new genus is characterized by the morphology of the male first gonopod, which has a prominent lateral process, a cephalic surface with two spine-like cephalic processes subdistally, and the outline of the apex strongly recurved, resembling a bow's arch. The new species is described and illustrated. The first location record of Eidocamptophallus chacei (Pretzmann, 1967), is made and its male first gonopod is redescribed and illustrated. Possible affinities of both taxa are discussed.

RESUMO

A small collection of freshwater crabs from eastern Panamá revealed a new species of pseudothelphusid crab, Potamocarcinus darienensis n. sp., which is described and illustrated. The new species is characterized by an unusual arrangement of distal processes in the male first gonopod, in which the mesial lobe is folded in a latero-cephalic direction over the apex and the apex is broadened by a rounded protuberance in its caudo-lateral surface, the cephalic surface having a small, conical median cephalic process, and a large, prominent, subtriangular proximal cephalic process. New records of two little-known species described from eastern Panamá, Spirocarcinus garthi (Pretzmann, 1971) (Pseudothelphusidae) and Melocarcinus meekei (Pretzmann, 1968) (Trichodactylidae), are listed and the first gonopod of S. garthi is redescribed.

RESUMO

A proposal to synonymize the freshwater crab species Hypolobocera solimani and Hypolobocera triangula from Colombia. It is proposed that Hypolobocera solimani and H. triangula be considered junior synonyms of H. alata and H. rotundilobata, respectively. We state that the following morphological differences represent natural variations within the population: a) first male gonopod, third maxilliped and larger cheliped between H. alata and H. solimani, and b) the differences of the first male gonopod between H. rotundilobata and H. triangula. Rev. Biol. Trop. 56 (3): 987-994. Epub 2008 September 30.
