Integrating Dermoscopic Images into PACS Using DICOM and Modality Worklist.

Dermatology is one of the medical fields outside the radiology service that uses image acquisition and analysis in its daily medical practice, mostly through digital dermoscopy imaging modality. The acquisition, transfer, and storage of dermatology images has become an important issue to resolve. We aimed to describe our experience in integrating dermoscopic images into PACS using DICOM as a guide for the health informatics and dermatology community. During 2022 we integrated the video dermoscopy equipment through a strategic plan with an 8-step procedure. We used the DICOM standard with Modality Worklist and Storage commitment. Three systems were involved (video dermoscopy software, the EHR, and PACS). We identified critical steps and faced many challenges, such as the lack of a final model of DICOM standard for dermatology images.

Building a Genome Archiving and Communication System Integrated into a Health Information Systems.

The use of next-generation sequencing technologies in clinical practice has increased the volume of information that must be stored, processed, and interpreted. In this work, a description of the implementation of a genomic communication and archiving system (GACS) is presented. This GACS will allow us to store, share and search the genomic files and genetic variants obtained as a result of genetic laboratory tests.

Electronic Health Record System Contingency Plan Coordination: A Strategy for Continuity of Care Considering Users' Needs.

Electronic Health Record system downtimes may have a great impact on patient care continuity. This paper describes the analysis and actions taken to redesign the Contingency Plan Procedure for the Electronic Health Record System of Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires. After conducting a thorough analysis of the data gathered at post-contingency meetings, weaknesses were identified in the procedure; thus, strategic actions were recommended to redesign the Contingency Plan to secure an effective communications channel, as well as a formal structure for functions that may support the decision-making process. The main actions were: 1) to incorporate the IT Contingencies Committee (Plan management); 2) to incorporate the Coordinator (general supervision of the procedure); and 3) to redefine the role of the Clinical Informatics Resident, who will be responsible for managing communication between the technical team and Electronic Health Record users. As users need the information for continuity of care, key users evaluated the impact of the new strategy with an adapted survey.

Integration of healthcare information: from enterprise PACS to patient centered multimedia health record.

Every single piece of healthcare information should be fully integrated and transparent within the electronic health record. The Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires initiated the project Multimedia Health Record with the goal to achieve this integration while maintaining a holistic view of current structure of the systems of the Hospital, where the axis remains are the patient and longitudinal history, commencing with section Computed Tomography. Was implemented DICOM standard for communication and image storage and bought a PACS. It was necessary adapt our generic reporting system for live up to the commercial RIS. The Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanners of our hospital were easily integrated into the DICOM network and all the CT Scans generated by our radiology service were stored in the PACS, reported using the Structured Reporting System (we installed diagnostic terminals equipped with 3 monitors) and displayed in the EHR at any point of HIBA's healthcare network.
