RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In agricultural production, fungal diseases significantly impact the yield and quality of cotton (Gossypium spp.) with Verticillium wilt posing a particularly severe threat. RESULTS: This study is focused on investigating the effectiveness of endophytic microbial communities present in the seeds of disease-resistant cotton genotypes in the control of cotton Verticillium wilt. The technique of 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) amplicon sequencing identified a significant enrichment of the Bacillus genus in the resistant genotype Xinluzao 78, which differed from the endophytic bacterial community structure in the susceptible genotype Xinluzao 63. Specific enriched strains were isolated and screened from the seeds of Xinluzao 78 to further explore the biological functions of seed endophytes. A synthetic microbial community (SynCom) was constructed using the broken-rod model, and seeds of the susceptible genotype Xinluzao 63 in this community that had been soaked with the SynCom were found to significantly control the occurrence of Verticillium wilt and regulate the growth of cotton plants. Antibiotic screening techniques were used to preliminarily identify the colonization of strains in the community. These techniques revealed that the strains can colonize plant tissues and occupy ecological niches in cotton tissues through a priority effect, which prevents infection by pathogens. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the key role of seed endophytes in driving plant disease defense and provides a theoretical basis for the future application of SynComs in agriculture.

RESUMO

Exploring multiple states based on the domain wall (DW) position has garnered increased attention for in-memory computing applications, particularly focusing on the utilization of spin-orbit torque (SOT) to drive DW motion. However, devices relying on the DW position require efficient DW pinning. Here, we achieve granular magnetization switching by incorporating an HfOx insertion layer between the Co/Ti interface. This corresponds to a transition in the switching model from the DW motion to DW nucleation. Compared to the conventional Pt/Co/Ti structure, incorporation of the HfOx layer results in an enhanced SOT efficiency and a lower switching current density. We also realized stable multistate storage and synaptic plasticity by applying pulse current in the Pt/Co/HfOx/Ti device. The simulation of artificial neural networks (ANN) based on the device can perform digital recognition tasks with an accuracy rate of 91%. These results identify that DW nucleation with a Pt/Co/HfOx/Ti based device has potential applications in multistate storage and ANN.

Through pumping a spin current from ferromagnet into heavy metal (HM) via magnetization precession, parts of the injected spins are in-plane rotated by the lattice vibration, namely acoustic spin rotation (ASR), which manifests itself as an inverse spin Hall voltage in HM with an additional 90° difference in angular dependency. When reversing the stacking order of bilayer with a counter-propagating spin current or using HMs with an opposite spin Hall angle, such ASR voltage shows the same sign, strongly suggesting that ASR changes the rotation direction due to interface spin-orbit interaction. With the drift-diffusion model of spin transport, we quantify the efficiency of ASR up to 30%. The finding of ASR endows the acoustic device with an ability to manipulate spin, and further reveals a new spin-orbit coupling between spin current and lattice vibration.

Qingtian paddy field carp (PF-carp) is a local carp cultivated in the paddy field of Qingtian, Zhejiang. This rice-fish co-culture system has been recognized as one of the Globally Important Agriculture Heritage Systems (GIAHS). PF-carp has been acclimatized to the high-temperature environment of shallow paddy fields after several centuries of domestication. To reveal the physiological and molecular regulatory mechanisms of PF-carp, we chose to use 28°C as the control group and 34°C as the treatment group. We measured biochemical parameters in their serum and hepatopancreases and also performed transcriptome sequencing analysis. Compared with the control group, the serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), glucose (GLU), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) show no significant change. In addition, superoxide dismutase (SOD), GSH-Px, and CAT also show no significant change in hepatopancreases. We identified 1,253 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and their pathway analysis revealed that heat stress affected AMPK signaling pathway, protein export, and other biological processes. It is worth noting that protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) was the most significantly enriched pathway identified by the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). Significantly higher levels of HSP40, HSP70, HSP90, and other ubiquitin ligase-related genes were upregulated. In summary, heat stress did not lead to tissue damage, inflammation, oxidative stress, and ER stress in the hepatopancreases of PF-carp. This study provides valuable insights into the adaptation mechanism of this species to the high-temperature environment of paddy fields.

Recently, magnetic skyrmion has attracted much attention due to its potential application in racetrack memory and other nanodevices. In bulk chiral magnets with non-centrosymmetric crystal structures, skyrmion lattice phase has been extensively observed. However, in film or multilayers with interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, individual skyrmion is often observed. Here, we report a short-ordered skyrmion lattice observed in [Ta(5.0 nm)/CoFeB(1.5 nm)/MgO(1.0 nm)]15 multilayer in a remnant state. The structure, stabilization, and reversal of these skyrmions are discussed. Applying a slightly tilted in-plane magnetic field caused reversal of the skyrmion lattice. This reversal came from disappearance of skyrmions and nucleation of new skyrmions in the interstitial regions of the lattice. Also, we investigated how the skyrmion lattice depended on the CoFeB thickness. Our findings provide a pathway to stabilize and reverse the skyrmions in multilayers films.

The magnetization reversal induced by spin orbit torques in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in perpendicularly magnetized Ta/CoFeB/MgO structures were investigated by using a combination of Anomalous Hall effect measurement and Kerr effect microscopy techniques. By analyzing the in-plane field dependent spin torque efficiency measurements, an effective field value for the DMI of ~300 Oe was obtained, which plays a key role to stabilize Néel walls in the film stack. Kerr imaging reveals that the current-induced reversal under small and medium in-plane field was mediated by domain nucleation at the edge of the Hall bar, followed by asymmetric domain wall (DW) propagation. However, as the in-plane field strength increases, an isotropic DW expansion was observed before reaching complete reversal. Micromagnetic simulations of the DW structure in the CoFeB layer suggest that the DW configuration under the combined effect of the DMI and the external field is responsible for the various DW propagation behaviors.

RESUMO

Magnetic hyperthermia with the treating temperature range of 41-46 °C is an alternative therapy for cancer treatment. In this article, lanthanum strontium manganates (La1-x Sr x MnO3, 0.25 ≤ × ≤ 0.35) magnetic nanoparticles coated by hyaluronic acid (HA) which possesses the ability of targeting tumor cells were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method combined with a high-energy ball milling technique. The crystal structure, morphology, magnetic properties of the HA-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), and their heating ability under alternating magnetic field were investigated. It was found the HA-coated La0.7Sr0.3MnO3, with particle diameter of ~100 nm, Curie temperature of 45 °C at a concentration 6 mg/ml, gave the optimal induction heating results. The heating temperature saturates at 45.7 °C, and the ESAR is 5.7 × 10-3 W/g · kHz · (kA/m2) which is much higher than other reported results.

The effects of Ru and Ag cap layers on the microstructure and magnetic properties of the FePt ultrathin films have been investigated. The results indicate that i) The Ag cap layer segregates from the FePt/Ag bilayer, lowers the FePt ordering temperature, promotes the FePt thin films to form island structure, and enhances the coercivity; ii) The Ru cap layer increases the FePt ordering temperature, helps to maintain smooth continuous structure film, and restrains the FePt (001) orientation and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). The effects become more pronounced for the 3-nm-thick FePt thin films. The effects can be mainly attributed to the different melting point and thermal expansion stress between the cap layer and FePt thin films.
