RESUMO

In this study the ultrastructure of Rana esculenta skin is described. Cytochemical methods were used to localize guanylate cyclase in the presence of atrial natriuretic peptide and immunocytochemical methods showed the presence of the atrial natriuretic peptide in various levels of skin. The peptide is mainly found in the epithelium and in the lymph sacs of the tela subcutanea. Its receptors are located in the same zones and are indicated by guanylate cyclase activity. We demonstrate that frog skin is a target organ for atrial natriuretic peptide and propose that, at this level, the peptide carries out an important osmoregulatory role.

RESUMO

The long-term results were studied in 31 patients (34 hips) with Perthe's disease. The patients were divided into two groups (above and below 25 years of age) in order to study the time at which the late complications become clinically and radiologically evident. The incidence of painful hip and radiological arthrosis is reported in each group in relation to age and initial grade of the disease. The significant prognostic factors were the initial severity of the disease (Types 1-3), the age at which it appeared, and the shape of the femoral head as assessed by the method of Mose. Treatment had been so varied that it was excluded as a factor in our analysis. The development of painful hip and radiological arthrosis (not always painful) only appeared to a significant extent in patients over the age of 25 at follow-up, and both were directly related to the initial grade of the disease.

RESUMO

The writers describe their technique of arthrodesis with two transarticular screws and displacement osteotomy, fixed by means of Ruggieri & Salvagni's angled plate. This method is indicated in painful, rigid unilateral arthrosis of the hip in middle-aged subjects who are still active and working. The angled plate enables the diaphysis to be displaced medially, thus shifting the weight bearing axis; it also corrects any axial deviations of the femoral shaft and encourages rapid consolidation of the osteotomy and the arthrodesis.
