RESUMO

Immunosuppression is therapeutically induced in an increasing number of patients, exceeding largely the only transplant recipients. Its carcinological complications are a major preoccupation, among which the uterine cervix intraepithelial neoplasia. The strong relationship between these genital neoplasia and the lesions caused by human Papillomavirus is now evident and has to be taken in consideration for an early and regular follow-up of these women. Cervical smear tests, colposcopic assessment and histological examinations allow to undertake the adequate treatment and to give some preventive advice.

RESUMO

Therapeutic immunosuppression applies to an increasing number of patients, exceeding largely the only transplant recipients. Among its detrimental carcinological complications are the uterine cervix intraepithelial neoplasia whose strong relationship with the lesions due to human papillomavirus is well known. They need an early and regular follow-up of the concerned women, by cervical smear tests, colposcopic assessment and histological examinations, to undertake in time the adequate treatment, without forgetting to give some preventive advice.

RESUMO

Histologic criteria of esophagitis and/or gastroesophageal reflux have been described in suction biopsy specimens which are easy to orient for perpendicular section of the mucosal surface. The aim of this study was to reassess the currently accepted criteria in guided endoscopic pinch biopsy specimens obtained from esophageal erosions. Epithelium of each sample was stained by Lugol's solution in order to be able to spread the specimen out flat and orient it before fixation. Of 92 biopsies nine were composed of granulation tissue and were excluded from the study. Of the remaining 83 biopsy specimens, 74 (89.2 p. 100) from 66 patients were properly oriented. Of these 74.65 (87.8 p. 100) from 57 patients contained lamina propria. Combination of the 2 epithelial criteria, i.e. papillary height and basal cell zone thickness greater than 50 p. 100 and 14 p. 100 of total epithelial thickness, respectively, were recorded in only 58 p. 100 of 66 patients. Nevertheless, the mean papillary height and the mean basal cell layer thickness were 64 p. 100 and 19 p. 100 of total epithelial thickness, respectively. Infiltration of the lamina propria by neutrophilic and/or eosinophilic granulocytes were recorded in 32 of 57 patients (56 p. 100) and only in 48 p. 100 of biopsy specimens which did not display any epithelial defect. Combination of pathologic changes in epithelium and lamina propria were observed in only 32 p. 100 of the patients and were not more frequent than expected on the basis of a chance association. We conclude that histologic criteria have a low sensitivity even in patients with erosive esophagitis.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

RESUMO

A case of massive hemorrhage from colon of diverticular origin is reported. A complete study of operative specimen allowed precise localization of diverticulum responsible and guidance of histopathologists in their search for the arterial erosion. Histology showed loss of arterial substance with total communication with diverticular lumen. A literature review emphasized vascular relations of diverticuli and the role of stercoliths in the mechanical agression responsible for the massive hemorrhage. It also illustrated the predominance of arteriography in the modern diagnostic and therapeutic approach to these lesions.

RESUMO

The authors describe a case of multicentric endotracheobronchial myoblastoma with one endotracheal localization and two bronchial localizations. The patient underwent resection of the inferior lobe of the left lung. The tracheal tumor was not removed. Two years after surgery the patient is doing well. Several biopsy specimens have been removed from the tracheal tumor which has remained unchanged. Cases such as ours are very uncommon. Therapeutic decisions may be difficult.

RESUMO

The authors report two new cases of bronchial granular cell tumour, a site which remains relatively rare. One of these cases was studied from the point of view of histoenzymology and ultrastructure. The appearances seen were identical to those seen in the literature. They lead to the problem of the histogenetics of the lesion, various morphological factors favouring a Schwann cell origin, whilst the presence of "transitional" cells is more in favour of a mesenchymatous origin, or at least the role of mesenchymatous cells in the development of these lesions.
