RESUMO

Neuropathies secondary to tophus compression in gout patients are well known; however, limited data exist on other types of peripheral neuropathies (PN). Our aim was to describe PN frequency, characteristics, distribution, patterns, and associated factors in gout patients through clinical evaluation, a PN questionnaire, and nerve conduction studies (NCS). This cross-sectional descriptive study included consecutive gout patients (ACR/EULAR 2015 criteria) from our clinic. All underwent evaluation by Rheumatology and Rehabilitation departments, with IRB approval. Based on NCS, patients were categorized as PN + (presence) or PN- (absence). PN + patients were further classified as local peripheral neuropathy (LPN) or generalized somatic peripheral neuropathy (GPN). We enrolled 162 patients, 98% male (72% tophaceous gout). Mean age (SD): 49.4 (12) years; mean BMI: 27.9 (6.0) kg/m2. Comorbidities included dyslipidemia (53%), hypertension (28%), and obesity (23.5%). Abnormal NCS: 65% (n = 106); 52% LPN, 48% GPN. PN + patients were older, had lower education, and severe tophaceous gout. GPN patients were older, had lower education, and higher DN4 scores compared to LPN or PN- groups (p = 0.05); other risk factors were not significant. Over half of gout patients experienced neuropathy, with 48% having multiplex mononeuropathy or polyneuropathy. This was associated with joint damage and functional impairment. Mechanisms and risk factors remain unclear. Early recognition and management are crucial for optimizing clinical outcomes and quality of life in these patients. Key Points Peripheral neuropathies in gout patients had been scarcely reported and studied. This paper report that: • PN in gout is more frequent and more diverse than previously reported. • Mononeuropathies are frequent, median but also ulnar, peroneal and tibial nerves could be injured. • Unexpected, generalized neuropathies (polyneuropathy and multiplex mononeuropathy) are frequent and associated to severe gout. • The direct role of hyperuricemia /or gout in peripheral nerves require further studies.

Coffee beverage is a source of dietary fiber composed by arabinogalactans, which can also be associated to proteins and phenolic compounds, originating melanoidins. Human colonic in vitro fermentations of coffee fractions, one rich in melanoidins (Mel) and the other in its parental polysaccharide arabinogalactans (AG), were performed in order to evaluate the metabolites produced by microbiota, namely short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), phenolic compounds, and bile acids. After 48 h of fermentation, a higher fermentability of the carbohydrate fraction of AG (62 %) than that of Mel (27 %) was observed, resulting in a SCFA content of 63 mM and 22 mM, respectively. Supplementation with AG and Mel fractions decreased the acetate:propionate ratio from 4.7 (in the absence of coffee fractions) to 2.5 and 3.5, respectively, suggesting a potential inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase, a rate-limiting enzyme for cholesterol synthesis. The fermentation of coffee fractions yielded dihydroferulic and dihydrocaffeic acids, known to have antioxidant properties. In the presence of Mel, it was observed a decrease (from 0.25 to 0.16 mg/mL) in the production of secondary bile acids, whose high content is associated to the development of several diseases, such as colorectal cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular.

Introduction: Values are crucial in decision-making, including processes related to science and technology, despite scientists often being unaware of them. Because a goal of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is to foster innovation, values have become fundamental in directing science and technology policies and shaping organizational cultures to leverage innovation. However, most research on STEM education has focused on improving performance or access to STEM education while overlooking its axiological configuration. This study analyzes the different value systems emerging in the current literature on STEM higher education and identifies the relevant stakeholders. Method: In this systematic review and ethical meta-analysis, we aimed to assess the most prominent studies on STEM education and its core values. We followed a Ricoeur-inspired hermeneutical methodology using Atlas ti 8.4.4. Values are identified and classified using a systematic approach to integrate axiological landscapes. Results: The literature does not explicitly discuss the value of STEM education for innovation. However, social values appear to be at the intersection and the cornerstone of basic, economic, aesthetic, and epistemic values, as most social values also manifest these four systems. The most common manifestation of the value system is the capability approach to justice, followed by the beauty of recognition and success and, in third place, racism and social disparities. The analyzed literature emphasizes STEM education's social, political, and economic determinants. However, there is an epistemic gap in the indispensable value of innovating and assessing STEM education. Conclusions: We propose an organizational culture model for STEM education that considers the goals, ends, values, and behaviors of students, teachers, educational institutions, and the government. This model can help fill the axiological gaps in STEM education.

BACKGROUND: American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ACL) shows variable response to therapy, but data on species-specific treatment efficacy is scarce. We describe the clinical characteristics and outcome of patients with ACL imported to a tertiary centre in Germany and determine whether species-specific therapy according to the 2014 "LeishMan" group recommendations is associated with cure. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted at the Charité Institute of International Health in Berlin. We analysed data on PCR-confirmed ACL cases collected between 2000 and 2023. Systemic therapy included liposomal amphotericin B, miltefosine, pentavalent antimony, ketoconazole or itraconazole. Localized therapy included perilesional pentavalent antimony or paromomycin ointment. Cure was defined as re-epithelialization of ulcers or disappearance of papular-nodular lesions after 3 months of treatment. Logistic regression models were used to quantify the effect of species-specific systemic therapy on the outcome. RESULTS: 75 cases were analysed. Most patients were male (62%), median age was 35 years, no patient had a history of immunosuppression. The most common reason for travel was tourism (60%), the most common destination was Costa Rica (28%), the median duration of illness was 8 weeks, and most patients presented with ulcers (87%). Lesions were complex in 43%. The most common Leishmania (L.) species was L. braziliensis (28%), followed by L. panamensis (21%). 51/73 (70%) patients were cured after initial therapy and 17/21 (81%) after secondary therapy. Cure after systemic therapy was more frequent when species-specific treatment recommendations were followed (33/45; 73%), compared to when not followed, (6/17; 35%, P = 0.008). This association was independent of age, sex, previous therapy, complex lesions, and Leishmania species (adjusted OR, 5.06; 95% CI, 1.22-24.16). CONCLUSIONS: ACL is a rare, imported disease in Germany. Complex lesions were common, challenging successful therapy. This study highlights the importance of identifying the parasite species and suggests that a species-specific approach to treatment leads to better outcomes.

Although invasive alien species have long been recognized as a major threat to nature and people, until now there has been no comprehensive global review of the status, trends, drivers, impacts, management and governance challenges of biological invasions. The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Thematic Assessment Report on Invasive Alien Species and Their Control (hereafter 'IPBES invasive alien species assessment') drew on more than 13,000 scientific publications and reports in 15 languages as well as Indigenous and local knowledge on all taxa, ecosystems and regions across the globe. Therefore, it provides unequivocal evidence of the major and growing threat of invasive alien species alongside ambitious but realistic approaches to manage biological invasions. The extent of the threat and impacts has been recognized by the 143 member states of IPBES who approved the summary for policymakers of this assessment. Here, the authors of the IPBES assessment outline the main findings of the IPBES invasive alien species assessment and highlight the urgency to act now.

Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) are of particular concern due to the spread of antibiotic resistance genes associated with mobile genetic elements. In this study, we collected 687 carbapenem-resistant strains recovered among clinical samples from 41 hospitals in nine Southern European countries (2016-2018). We identified 11 major clonal lineages, with most isolates belonging to the high-risk clones ST258/512, ST101, ST11, and ST307. blaKPC-like was the most prevalent carbapenemase-encoding gene (46%), with blaOXA-48 present in 39% of isolates. Through the combination and comparison of this EURECA collection with the previous EuSCAPE collection (2013-2014), we investigated the spread of high-risk clones circulating in Europe exhibiting regional differences. We particularly found blaKPC-like ST258/512 in Greece, Italy, and Spain, blaOXA-48 ST101 in Serbia and Romania, blaNDM ST11 in Greece, and blaOXA-48-like ST14 in Türkiye. Genomic surveillance across Europe thus provides crucial insights for local risk mapping and informs necessary adaptions for implementation of control strategies.

Less than 15-20% of patients who meet the criteria for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) carry pathogenic coding genetic mutations, implying that other molecular mechanisms may contribute to the increased risk of this condition. DNA methylation in peripheral blood has been suggested as a potential epigenetic marker for the risk of breast cancer (BC). We aimed to discover methylation marks in peripheral blood associated with BC in 231 pre-treatment BC patients meeting HBOC criteria, testing negative for coding pathogenic variants, and 156 healthy controls, through methylation analysis by targeted bisulfite sequencing on 18 tumor suppressor gene promoters (330 CpG sites). We found i) hypermethylation in EPCAM (17 CpG sites; p = 0.017) and RAD51C (27 CpG sites; p = 0.048); ii) hypermethylation in 36 CpG-specific sites (FDR q < 0.05) in the BC patients; iii) four specific CpG sites were associated with a higher risk of BC (FDR q < 0.01, Bonferroni p < 0.001): cg89786999-FANCI (OR = 1.65; 95% CI:1.2-2.2), cg23652916-PALB2 (OR = 2.83; 95% CI:1.7-4.7), cg47630224-MSH2 (OR = 4.17; 95% CI:2.1-8.5), and cg47596828-EPCAM (OR = 1.84; 95% CI:1.5-2.3). Validation of cg47630224-MSH2 methylation in one Australian cohort showed an association with 3-fold increased BC risk (AUC: 0.929; 95% CI: 0.904-0.955). Our findings suggest that four DNA methylation CpG sites may be associated with a higher risk of BC, potentially serving as biomarkers in patients without detectable coding mutations.

Objectives: We performed a multicentre study (2020-2022) to compare the in vitro activity of ozenoxacin and comparator agents against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes clinical isolates from skin and soft-tissue infections (SSTI). Methods: A total of 1725 isolates (1454 S. aureus and 271 S. pyogenes) were collected in 10 centres from eight countries between January 2020 and December 2022. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was determined (microdilution-SENSITITRE). Results were interpreted following European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) 2023 (clinical breakpoints, ECOFF) and CLSI criteria. Results: Ozenoxacin exhibited high in vitro activity against S. aureus (MIC50/90 = 0.002/0.12 mg/L) and S. pyogenes (MIC50/90 = 0.015/0.03 mg/L), inhibiting 99% of the isolates at MIC ≤ 0.5 mg/L and at MIC ≤ 0.06, respectively. The most active comparators against S. aureus were retapamulin (MIC90 = 0.12 mg/L), fusidic acid (MIC90 = 0.25 mg/L) and mupirocin (MIC90 = 0.5 mg/L); and against S. pyogenes were retapamulin (MIC90 = 0.03 mg/L), clindamycin (MIC90 = 0.12 mg/L) and mupirocin (MIC90 = 0.25 mg/L). Ciprofloxacin and methicillin resistant rates for S. aureus were 31.3% (455/1454) and 41% (598/1454), respectively. Additionally, 62% (373/598) of the MRSA were also ciprofloxacin non-susceptible, whereas only 10% (23/271) of the MSSA were ciprofloxacin resistant. Ozenoxacin was more active against ciprofloxacin-susceptible S. aureus than against ciprofloxacin-resistant isolates, and showed a slightly higher MIC in MRSA isolates than in MSSA. However, ozenoxacin activity was comparable in both ciprofloxacin-resistant MSSA and MRSA subsets. On the other hand, ozenoxacin had similar activity in ciprofloxacin-susceptible and resistant S. pyogenes isolates. Conclusions: Ozenoxacin is a potent antimicrobial agent of topic use against Gram-positive bacteria causing SSTI, including MRSA isolates non-susceptible to ciprofloxacin.

In this study, five different black bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Tolosa) populations cultivated in different geographical areas including Oiartzun, Andoain, Azkoitia, San Esteban and Amasa Villabona, were studied and their polyphenolic content was determined. Two food products were prepared from the five different bean populations, cooked "Tolosa" beans and a hummus made with "Tolosa" cooked beans. Moreover, the variations of total polyphenol content (TPC), total anthocyanin content (TAC) and free radical scavenging activity by the 1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method were analyzed for raw beans, cooked beans, and "Tolosa" beans hummus. Polyphenolic detailed composition was determined by means of HPLC-MS-QTOF analysis. The "Tolosa" bean population richest in polyphenols was selected in order to study the effect of in vitro digestion on the polyphenolic content and antioxidant effect and the degradation of the main anthocyanins was followed during the in vitro digestion. Finally, the effect of the different phases of digestion on the cytotoxicity in Caco-2 cells was determined. The results suggest that cooking "Tolosa" black beans results in an increase in the bioaccessibility of polyphenols and their antioxidant activity, which, additionally has a positive effect on Caco-2 intestinal cell viability.

A central role for neuroinflammation in epileptogenesis has recently been suggested by several investigations. This systematic review explores the role of inflammatory mediators in epileptogenesis, its association with seizure severity, and its correlation with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). The study analysed articles published in JCR journals from 2019 to 2024. The search strategy comprised the MESH, free terms of "Neuroinflammation", and selective searches for the following single biomarkers that had previously been selected from the relevant literature: "High mobility group box 1/HMGB1", "Toll-Like-Receptor 4/TLR-4", "Interleukin-1/IL-1", "Interleukin-6/IL-6", "Transforming growth factor beta/TGF-ß", and "Tumour necrosis factor-alpha/TNF-α". These queries were all combined with the MESH terms "Epileptogenesis" and "Epilepsy". We found 243 articles related to epileptogenesis and neuroinflammation, with 356 articles from selective searches by biomarker type. After eliminating duplicates, 324 articles were evaluated, with 272 excluded and 55 evaluated by the authors. A total of 21 articles were included in the qualitative evaluation, including 18 case-control studies, 2 case series, and 1 prospective study. As conclusion, this systematic review provides acceptable support for five biomarkers, including TNF-α and some of its soluble receptors (sTNFr2), HMGB1, TLR-4, CCL2 and IL-33. Certain receptors, cytokines, and chemokines are examples of neuroinflammation-related biomarkers that may be crucial for the early diagnosis of refractory epilepsy or may be connected to the control of epileptic seizures. Their value will be better defined by future studies.

OBJECTIVES: Despite the introduction of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is still a major pathogen in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). We determine the activity of cefiderocol and comparators in a collection of 154 P. aeruginosa isolates recovered from pwCF during three multicentre studies performed in 17 Spanish hospitals in 2013, 2017 and 2021. METHODS: ISO broth microdilution was performed and MICs were interpreted with CLSI and EUCAST criteria. Mutation frequency and WGS were also performed. RESULTS: Overall, 21.4% were MDR, 20.8% XDR and 1.3% pandrug-resistant (PDR). Up to 17% of the isolates showed a hypermutator phenotype. Cefiderocol demonstrated excellent activity; only 13 isolates (8.4%) were cefiderocol resistant by EUCAST (none using CLSI). A high proportion of the isolates resistant to ceftolozane/tazobactam (71.4%), meropenem/vaborbactam (70.0%), imipenem/relebactam (68.0%) and ceftazidime/avibactam (55.6%) were susceptible to cefiderocol. Nine out of 13 cefiderocol-resistant isolates were hypermutators (P < 0.001). Eighty-three STs were detected, with ST98 being the most frequent. Only one isolate belonging to the ST175 high-risk clone carried blaVIM-2. Exclusive mutations affecting genes involved in membrane permeability, AmpC overexpression (L320P-AmpC) and efflux pump up-regulation were found in cefiderocol-resistant isolates (MIC = 4-8 mg/L). Cefiderocol resistance could also be associated with mutations in genes related to iron uptake (tonB-dependent receptors and pyochelin/pyoverdine biosynthesis). CONCLUSIONS: Our results position cefiderocol as a therapeutic option in pwCF infected with P. aeruginosa resistant to most recent ß-lactam/ß-lactamase inhibitor combinations.

Background: Global emergency medicine (GEM) is situated at the intersection of global health and emergency medicine (EM), which is built upon a history of colonial systems and institutions that continue to reinforce inequities between high-income countries (HICs) and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) today. These power imbalances yield disparities in GEM practice, research, and education. Approach: The Global Emergency Medicine Academy (GEMA) of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine formed the Decolonizing GEM Working Group in 2020, which now includes over 100 worldwide members. The mission is to address colonial legacies in GEM and catalyze sustainable changes and recommendations toward decolonization at individual and institutional levels. To develop recommendations to decolonize GEM, the group conducted a nonsystematic review of existing literature on decolonizing global health, followed by in-depth discussions between academics from LMICs and HICs to explore implications and challenges specific to GEM. We then synthesized actionable solutions to provide recommendations on decolonizing GEM. Results: Despite the rapidly expanding body of literature on decolonizing global health, there is little guidance specific to the relatively new field of GEM. By applying decolonizing principles to GEM, we suggest key priorities for improving equity in academic GEM: (1) reframing partnerships to place LMIC academics in positions of expertise and power, (2) redirecting research funding toward LMIC-driven projects and investigators, (3) creating more equitable practices in establishing authorship, and (4) upholding principles of decolonization in the education of EM trainees from LMICs and HICs. Conclusions: Understanding the colonial roots of GEM will allow us to look more critically at current health disparities and identify inequitable institutionalized practices within our profession that continue to uphold these misguided concepts. A decolonized future of GEM depends on our recognition and rectification of colonial-era practices that shape structural determinants of health care delivery and scientific advancement.

The effects of global warming are numerous and recent studies reveal that they can affect the timing of pollination. Temperature is the meteorological variable that presents a clearer relationship with the start of the pollination season of most of the observed airborne pollen taxa. In Catalonia, in the last fifty years, the average annual air temperature has increased by +0.23 °C/decade, and the local warming has been slightly higher than the one on a global scale. Projections point to an increase in temperature in the coming decades, which would be more marked towards the middle of the century. To analyse the effect of the increase in temperature due to global warming on the starting date of pollen season in Barcelona, a forecasting model has been applied to a set of projected future temperatures estimated by the European RESCCUE project. This model, largely used in the literature, is based on determining the thermal needs of the plant for the pollen season to begin. The model calibration to obtain the initial parameters has been made by using 20 years of pollen data (2000-2019), and the model effectiveness has subsequently been tested through an internal evaluation over the period of the calibration and an external evaluation on 4 years not included in the calibration (2020-2023). The mean bias error in the internal calibration ranged between -0.4 and - 0.6 days, and between +0.5 and - 8.3 in the external one, depending on the taxon. The results of the application of the model to the temperature projections over the 21st century point to a progressive advancement in the pollination dates of several pollen types abundant in the city, allergenic most of them. These advances ranged, at the end of the century, between 15 and 27 days, depending on the climate model, for the scenario of the highest concentrations (RCP8.5) and between 7 and 12 days for the emissions stabilization scenario (RCP4.5).

PURPOSE: This study investigates how instructors in communication sciences and disorders (CSD) programs teach about cultural and linguistic diversity (CLD) in general-content courses as well as those dedicated to CLD content with the goal of identifying ways of improving training of preservice clinicians to provide culturally responsive service delivery. METHOD: A survey was sent to 4,192 instructors in CSD programs at 295 institutions in the United States and Puerto Rico, of which 565 responded. The survey contained choice response questions and open-ended questions. RESULTS: Curricular infusion as the sole strategy of CLD training has decreased since a similar survey was published by Stockman et al. (2008), while the number of programs that offer courses dedicated to CLD or use both strategies has increased. Dedicated CLD courses offer broader training in CLD issues and are considered more effective at preparing students to work with CLD populations. A number of challenges were identified, such as a lack of available resources or time to cover CLD issues. CONCLUSIONS: A combination of curricular infusion and dedicated CLD coursework is recommended to ensure sufficient training in CLD issues. The development of additional resources is needed to better support instructors in both general-content and CLD-dedicated courses. Finally, CLD training should engage students in challenging unjust systems and harmful ideologies and not just celebrate multiculturalism in order to provide culturally responsive service to all clients. In Europe, American cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania mexicana is a rare imported disease. A series of six cases in 2023 is a noteworthy escalation at our institutions compared to the past two decades. This surge is likely linked to an increase of cases and environmental changes in South-Eastern Mexico.

Coffee fruit cascara, which is the skin and pulp of the coffee cherry, has been authorized as a novel food for commercialization in the European Union. The present research assessed the feasibility of using spray drying to produce a soluble powder called instant cascara (IC), employing sun-dried ripe coffee cherry pulp as a raw material. Although there were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in the overall antioxidant capacity between the freeze-dried and spray-dried samples, after an in vitro simulation of the digestion process, the spray-dried sample was significantly (p < 0.05) more antioxidant. Both samples reduced physiological intracellular ROS and significantly decreased (p < 0.05) the secretion of the pro-inflammatory factor NO. Alkaloids and phenolic compounds were detected in intestinal digests. In conclusion, spray drying is a good technique for producing IC as its use does not affect its properties and causes less environmental impact than freeze drying, as calculated by life cycle assessment. Sensory analysis did not show significant differences between the commercial beverage and the IC beverage in the adult population. IC at 10 mg/mL was significantly less accepted in adolescents than the commercial beverage. Future work will include the reformulation of the IC beverage at 10 mg/mL, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential, to increase its hedonic acceptance in all consumer segments.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the effect of the prone position on endotracheal intubation and mortality in nonintubated COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. METHODS: We registered the protocol (CRD42021286711) and searched for four databases and gray literature from inception to December 31, 2022. We included observational studies and clinical trials. There was no limit by date or the language of publication. We excluded case reports, case series, studies not available in full text, and those studies that included children < 18-years-old. RESULTS: We included ten observational studies, eight clinical trials, 3,969 patients, 1,120 endotracheal intubation events, and 843 deaths. All of the studies had a low risk of bias (Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and Risk of Bias 2 tools). We found that the conscious prone position decreased the odds of endotracheal intubation by 44% (OR 0.56; 95%CI 0.40 - 0.78) and mortality by 43% (OR 0.57; 95%CI 0.39 - 0.84) in nonintubated COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. This protective effect on endotracheal intubation and mortality was more robust in those who spent > 8 hours/day in the conscious prone position (OR 0.43; 95%CI 0.26 - 0.72 and OR 0.38; 95%CI 0.24 - 0.60, respectively). The certainty of the evidence according to the GRADE criteria was moderate. CONCLUSION: The conscious prone position decreased the odds of endotracheal intubation and mortality, especially when patients spent over 8 hours/day in the conscious prone position and treatment in the intensive care unit. However, our results should be cautiously interpreted due to limitations in evaluating randomized clinical trials, nonrandomized clinical trials and observational studies. However, despite systematic reviews with meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials, we must keep in mind that these studies remain heterogeneous from a clinical and methodological point of view.

Sitosterolemia is an autosomal recessive and very rare disease. Its main characteristic is that there is a greater absorption and a decrease in the excretion of sterols, which leads to them being deposited in tissues. It is given by mutations in the ABCG5 or ABCG8 genes found on chromosome 2p21. In this clinical note, we describe the first two patients with familial sitosterolemia described in Colombia, brothers, one of them with xanthomas in extremities as the only symptom, and the other, completely asymptomatic. Genetic studies were performed as a diagnostic test in both patients, where a pathogenic homozygous variant could be identified in the ABCG8 gene in the first case (symptomatic), and a heterozygous variant in the ABCG8 gene in the second case (asymptomatic); the first patient has responded to treatment with ezetimibe. In conclusion, xanthomas should be studied in depth in pediatric age as they may be the only visible sign of such complex and hereditary diseases as familial sitosterolemia, which can be controlled and prevent cardiovascular complications of the disease.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major public health threat, reducing treatment options for infected patients. AMR is promoted by a lack of access to rapid antibiotic susceptibility tests (ASTs). Accelerated ASTs can identify effective antibiotics for treatment in a timely and informed manner. We describe a rapid growth-independent phenotypic AST that uses a nanomotion technology platform to measure bacterial vibrations. Machine learning techniques are applied to analyze a large dataset encompassing 2762 individual nanomotion recordings from 1180 spiked positive blood culture samples covering 364 Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates exposed to cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones. The training performances of the different classification models achieve between 90.5 and 100% accuracy. Independent testing of the AST on 223 strains, including in clinical setting, correctly predict susceptibility and resistance with accuracies between 89.5% and 98.9%. The study shows the potential of this nanomotion platform for future bacterial phenotype delineation.
