[Survival analysis in lung cancer treated with radiotherapy]. / Análisis de supervivencia en cáncer de pulmón microcítico tras radioterapia.

From June-78 to December-89, 300 patients with histologic diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer were treated with radiotherapy by different indications: radical intention, post-chemotherapy, palliative intention, symptomatic and postsurgery. It was employed an electrons lineal accelerator principally, and for symptomatic radiotherapy treatment was used telegammatherapy by cobalt-60. It was treated an retrospective non comparative study which it has analyzed the survival of the different radiotherapy indications.

[Experimental study of the effect of the association of hyperthermia and BCNU on solid sarcoma 180 in C3H mice. Development of tumor volume, survival and rate of cure]. / Estudio experimental de la asociación de hipertermia y BCNU sobre el sarcoma 180 sólido en el ratón C3H. Evolución del volumen tumoral, supervivencia y tasa de curaciones.

The authors describe the experimental results of administering BCNU combined with hyperthermia upon the growth of sarcoma 180 of the mouse. Best results were obtained employing the combined therapy than using BCNU or hyperthermia alone, and hyperthermia was necessary in all cases where a curative effect was attained.

Several investigations carried out recently have shown that cancer radiotherapy obtains better results in some tumors when multiple daily fractionation is employed. The authors review the different kinds of dose fractionation and the obtained results.

[Evolution of weight and survival of C3H mice with solid, subcutaneous sarcoma 180, treated with radiotherapy, hyperthermia and a combination of hyperthermia and radiotherapy]. / Evolución del peso y supervivencia de los ratones C3H con sarcoma 180sólido subcutáneo, tratados con radioterapia, hipertermia y la asociación de hipertermia más radioterapia.

The authors make an experimental study of the weight evolution and survival rate of sarcoma 180-bearing C3H mice treated by combinations of radiotherapy and hyperthermia. The body weight increased progressively in control animals. The weight increase was less marked under the effect of radiotherapy, hyperthermia, and radiotherapy plus hyperthermia, in decreasing order. While tumor-bearing control animals died after an average of 26.6 days, 3.33, 16.67 and 76.67 per cent of the mice treated respectively by radiotherapy, hyperthermia, and radiotherapy plus hyperthermia were living after 90 days.

The authors make a review of the general results obtained with the best protocols of cancer chemotherapy in 400 patients. They consider chemotherapy at the present time as a means of proven value producing a temporary clinical improvement and a longer survival, that cannot be contemplated as curative. Chemotherapy must always be associated to surgery and radiotherapy.
