Women's insertion or consolidation in science has been thoroughly researched. Such discussion could be particularly relevant concerning sustainable development goal five (SDG 5) on Gender Equality advancement. However, the debate is focused on women percentages inserted into scientific labor, leaving the issue of symbolic experience for women in research unaddressed and with little empirical support. The data come from a survey developed under a FONDECYT project, which studied knowledge production in Chile. Researchers obtained contacts through invitations on social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn and databases containing scientists' emails working in Chile. The non-probabilistic sample collected 583 cases, with participants residing in 15 of the 16 country regions. As a result, this document presents the findings of a study on symbolic experience using an instrument to determine whether there are any homophily patterns. It aims to determine if scientists tend to cite others as referents only when they encounter a situation like their own. The findings reveal a clear way scientists estimate the effect of others in terms of their gender homophily. This intervening factor could be crucial in reproducing the disparities and asymmetries that characterize Chile's scientific field.

Technostress is a psychosocial phenomenon associated with the use of technologies to the detriment of health, the same one that during the pandemic was accelerated in the work considering home confinement. This work aims to systematize the main research on the impact of technostress at work during the severe confinement stage of the pandemic, between the years 2020 and 2021, with the purpose of identify and evaluate its main determining factors. A systematic review of the literature was carried out during COVID-19, using the words "technostress work COVID-19." The works found focus mainly on analyzing the creators and inhibitors of technostress in workers, as well as the main consequences of the materialization of this technological risk associated with work performance during the stage of confinement by COVID-19. Techno invasion and techno overload were identified as the main techno stressors, with the main type of technostress appreciated in the literature being techno fatigue. Technostress is identified as a problem that had direct and relevant effects during the season of severe confinement and remote work at home due to COVID-19; highlighting techno fatigue as the most frequent type of stress, and techno stressors such as techno invasion and overload as the ones that presented the highest incidence.

San Diego and Tijuana configure two big cities that have faced each other across the international boundary between United States and Mexico for over 180 years. Within this context, the relationship emerging at the border can be characterized under different categories of individual, social, economic, and political situations connecting each side. Additionally, in recent years, the literature on cross-border conflicts has extensively focused on volunteers as informal agents helping children and other groups of population, but relatively little research has addressed the practical and managerial work and implications of the volunteers themselves. As actors of cross-border communities, volunteers play a relevant role in effective short-term migrants' settlement, but it is also observed that the profile of volunteers in religious organizations differs from those belonging to non-profit institutions. Grounded on the theories of Planned Behavior and Reasoned Action suggesting that intentions to cooperate with non-government institutions are influenced directly by attitudinal values and indirectly by their beliefs related to social conflicts, this paper analyzes the nature of volunteer commitment in religious and non-profit organizations (NPOs) providing information about managerial practices for newly arrived migrants. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relevance of volunteer commitment as an instrument for managing cross-border conflicts in the particular context of San Diego and Tijuana Area. Based on research using interview data collected from beneficiaries by volunteers, institutional representatives, and documentary references, this manuscript highlights a psychological and individual-centric perspective of volunteer commitment, but it also explores a collective communicative action expanding the range of relevant voices in decisions about volunteering. Moreover, this study provides new insights into how organizational and relational elements impact sustainable volunteer management and points out the role played by attitudes toward non-government institutions such as religious and NPOs demonstrating the relevance of volunteer commitment, transforming part of the positive attitude toward social problems into a significant intention to cooperation. Understanding the importance of the organization's images in order to attract volunteers, these results show that commitment may become a key determinant of the volunteers' identity linked to strategies devoted to organizational activities.

Resumen Justificación: ante ciertos desafíos sobre la competitividad de los servicios públicos, resulta crucial mejorar la calidad de la salud. Objetivos: (1) caracterizar el nivel de calidad de servicio en la demanda de urgencias hospitalarias, a partir de la gestión lean seis sigma; y (2) evidenciar la relevancia de ciertos indicadores clave de gestión en la unidad de urgencias de un hospital público. Método: a partir de una propuesta de variables lean-seis-sigma derivadas de la escala SERVQHOS, se aplica una encuesta sobre las percepciones de los usuarios de un servicio de urgencias en un hospital público chileno y se identifican y evalúan sus principales indicadores de gestión. Resultados: enfatizar la importancia de intervenir sobre ciertas variables relevantes en diferentes niveles de actuación de una unidad hospitalaria. Aportación: ilustrar una propuesta para mejorar la atención, enfocándose en la disminución de tiempos y errores en el servicio y agregando valor al paciente.


Abstract Justification: Regarding some challenges of the public services competitiveness, it is crucial to enhance the health quality. Objectives: (1) To characterize the levels of service quality in the emergency rooms based on Lean Six Sigma; and (2) to show the relevance of some key management indicators in the emergency room of a public hospital. Methods: Based on a proposal of Lean- Six-Sigma variables derived from the SERVQHOS scale, a survey was applied to the users regarding their perception about the emergency room services in a Chilean public hospital. The main management indicators thereof were identified and evaluated. Results: To emphasize how it is important to make interventions concerning some relevant variables at different action levels in a hospital Ward. Contribution: To illustrate a proposal to improve the health care, focused on reducing the service times and mistakes and adding values to the patient.


Resumo Justificação: perante certos desafios relacionados com a competitividade dos serviços públicos, resulta crucial melhorar a qualidade da saúde. Objetivos: (1) caracterizar o nível de qualidade do serviço na demanda de urgências hospitalares, a partir da gestão lean- seis-sigma; e (2) evidenciar a relevância de certos indicadores chave de gestão na unidade de urgências de um hospital público. Método: a partir de uma proposta de variáveis lean-seis-sigma derivadas da escala SERVQHOS, aplica-se um inquérito sobre as percepções dos usuários de um serviço de urgências num hospital público chileno e são identificados e avaliados seus principais indicadores de gestão. Resultados: enfatizar a importância de intervir sobre certas variáveis relevantes em diferentes níveis de atuação de uma unidade hospitalar. Contribuição: ilustrar uma proposta para melhorar o atendimento, a focar na diminuição de tempos e erros no serviço e adicionando valor ao paciente.
