RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of life and sex roles of women diagnosed with cancer and undergoing brachytherapy. METHODS: The research is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample of the study included 116 women over 35 years old who were diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer and underwent intracavitary brachytherapy at the Radiation Oncology Department of a university hospital. Personal information form, SF-36 the Quality of Life Scale, and BEM Sex Role Inventory were used in the study. The researcher collected the data through face-to-face interview. The data were collected in the nurses' room after 3 different brachytherapy treatments that patients received weekly. RESULTS: It was found that the average score of the physical functioning subscale was 32.80 ± 24.33, the average score of role physical was 15.43 ± 28.78, the average score of role emotional was 17.81 ± 28.96, the average score of vitality was 39.13 ± 16.12, the average score of social functioning was 43.53 ± 20.55, the score average of pain was 50.0 ± 20.09, the average score of general health was 42.67 ± 14.61, and the general health of mental health was 55.86 ± 16.12. In the BEM sex roles scale, the average score of BEM femininity was 105.56 ± 13.95, and the average score of BEM masculinity was 80.61 ± 12.77. In our study, a very low, negative, and significant relationship was determined between the role of femininity and emotional role limitation, physical functionality, social functionality, and general health perception in the women undergoing brachytherapy (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Based on the findings of the present study, we can state that an increase in the "role of femininity" in women undergoing brachytherapy was effective in the decrease in the quality of lives of women. It can be claimed that the results will be a guidance for the nurses who will play an important role in increasing the quality of lives of the women undergoing brachytherapy.

RESUMO

ABSRTACTThis study aims to investigate the life experiences of refugee children and examine the symbolic representations of these experiences in their drawings. In this study, the phenomenological research design, which is a qualitative research approach, was adopted. The study was carried out with 28 refugee children. The obtained qualitative data were analyzed through thematic coding. It has been found in this study that three themes "The Challenges of Immigration," "Living in A Country Without War," "Outlook for The Future." Refugee children experience challenges in many aspects, including but not limited to education, economic status and social life. It has been determined that despite the challenges they face, refugee children have embraced their host country, that they feel safe, and that most do not want to go back to their home countries as they fear for their lives. In this study, it has been concluded that refugee children experience various asylum-related issues. In line with the obtained data, it is recommended to pre-determine the mental and physical problems refugee children may face, ensure their protection, minimize their asylum-related issues, produce national and international policies on their access to education, health, and basic services and take other relevant necessary measures. Practice Implications: This study contributes to our better understanding of what difficulties migration causes in children's lives and how children experience this process. All the health professionals who have roles and responsibilities in the protection and development of the health of migrant children can take advantage from the results of the study.

AIM: This study aims to explore the opinions of male nursing students on violence against women in Turkey. INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of violence against women in the world is increasing every passing day. Although women try to deal with the changes their lives bring along, they are faced with physical, sexual, psychological, and economic violence for various reasons at the same time. BACKGROUND: Inclusion of men in studies can have a strong impact on how strategies are developed and implemented. Tackling the issue of violence against women requires active engagement of men and, therefore, knowing the knowledge, attitudes, and understanding of male nursing students is important. METHODS: In this qualitative study, 18 male nursing students participated. The participants were selected through purposive sampling, and data were collected through individual semi structured interviews. The data were analyzed using the thematic analysis method designed by Clarke and Braun. FINDINGS: The findings of the study are presented in seven themes and these are definition of violence, causes of violence, reactions to witnessing violence, impacts of violence on society, solutions to violence, efforts regarding violence in Turkey, and being a male nurse. Among the striking results of the study were that students considered violence with its many dimensions, that they stated that violence could be prevented, that they found that efforts regarding the issue were insufficient in Turkey, and that they stated that important responsibilities for preventing violence against women lay with nurses. CONCLUSION/IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Students considered violence and its various dimensions. They felt that violence could be prevented, that the efforts regarding the issue were insufficient in Turkey, and that important responsibilities for preventing violence against women lay with nurses. The views of male nursing students on violence against women are promising as it encourages the empowerment of future nurse professionals, who are expected to be the pioneers of necessary changes in the field of health in order to defend women.

Fear of childbirth affects their labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. For this reason, it is important to examine all aspects of fear of childbirth, which has a multifactorial etiology. The purpose of this study is to determine whether gender roles and personality traits predict fear of childbirth among pregnant Turkish women. A cross-sectional study was conducted. It was completed with 200 women in the labor process receiving care in the birthing room of a state hospital. Descriptive statistics were represented by percentages, means, and standard deviation values. Simple regression analysis was employed to examine whether gender roles and Cervantes personality traits predicted fear of childbirth. It was determined that there was a negative relationship between masculine gender role and having an extroverted personality and fear of childbirth. In conclusion, the data suggest that gender roles and personality traits may be useful variables to predict women's fear of childbirth. Future studies that will examine the relationship of gender roles and personality traits with the birth process can bring a new perspective to health professionals and a new dimension to care.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: This experimental study was designed using pretest, posttest, follow-up, and control group models to explore the effect of a structured education program on adolescents' psychological resilience and emotional intelligence level. METHOD: This study was conducted on 70 students at a high school in Turkey. A total of 36 students were assigned to the intervention group and 34 students to the control group. Data were collected using the Adolescent Information Form, Resilience Scale (RS), and Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale (EIES). The scales were administered in the intervention group before initializing the education program, who later received a 7-week education program. One month after the administration of the education program, the scales were again administered during follow-up. FINDINGS: It was found that the education program improved and increased adolescents' psychological resilience and total emotional intelligence level despite not being significant (p > 0.05). During the follow-up, adolescents in the intervention group demonstrated an important difference in follow-up scores in the optimism and communication subdimensions of the RS compared to that in the posttest scores, and the intervention group had a higher average total score in the EIES compared to that in students in the control group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that the training program has positive effects on improving adolescents' psychological resilience and emotional intelligence levels, especially in the long run, which needs to be developed and applied in different samples.

AIM: The study was conducted descriptively to determine the social media addiction, cyberbullying (CB) and cyber victimization (CV) of health sciences faculty students. METHOD: 518 students who volunteered to participate in the study from among the students studying in the faculty of health sciences. The personal information form prepared by the researcher, the Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS), and the Cyber Victim and Bullying Scale (CVBS) were used to collect the data. To analyze data number (n), percentage (%), mean, median and standard deviation (SD), Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test and spearman correlation analysis were used. RESULTS: As a result of the study, it was determined that the SMAS scores of female students and the CB and CV scores of male students were statistically significantly higher. It was found that the mean scores of CV of the students with low academic achievement, and the mean scores of CB and CV of the students with separated parents were higher compared to other groups. In the study, it was determined that the mean scores of SMAS and CV of the students who reported their upbringing style as inconsistent and unbalanced, and the mean scores of SMAS of the students who indicated their personality trait as aggressive were significantly higher compared to other groups. CONCLUSION: In accordance with these results, it is important to identify the students who may be at risk and to raise awareness about addiction and the risks that may be encountered in the virtual environment.
